The recruit did admit defeat. However, he would rather forfeiting his life than admitting he is a worthless piece of shit since he viewed himself above lower class people who work 9-5 to get by. He said himself that he worked for Squid Game because what they gave him made him feel like somebody, implying he used to be a dirt poor nobody like Gi Hun. So Gi Hun used the Suit man worldview against him; he's not some hotshit, just a lowly grunt who did everything to get a crump of wealth and attention from his boss, so he's no better than the people he looked down upon. Either he cheats and shoot Gi Hun or he plays fair and shoot himself, it makes no difference. The Suit man is lose either way the moment he realized the bullet is not in the chamber on Gi Hun's turn.

God Episode 1 is absolute peak but this scene was more remarkable than the first russian roulette because of the play between two characters that witness amount of horrors to get to this point of life that a mere click of their gun wont make them flinch. The Salesman trying out different positions and makes expressions that was probably trying to mock Gi-Hun or the amount of people he plays with to show how fucked up this guy is to mess with poor people Gi-Hun however dosent give him the satisfaction to let him see that hes desperate to survive and shake in fear because he already experienced a big amount of that And that final comeback as they finally reach the last of the gun's chamber - mwah and Gi-Hun's last gamble wasnt even pulling the trigger it was the fact he even gave the gun to the recruiter and see if he'll shoot him or himself

This scene is so intense I didn't think I was breathing. Suit man refuses to admit he's a victim despite how hard he worked to climb up the ranks. Every participant is a rat in a cage, created by the creators, regardless of where they have climbed to. Suit man suffered too, and refuses to admit that despite his hard work, he is still, a pawn in the game. I can't move on from this scene, it is too brilliant: the acting, implications of what's happening, and the nail biting atmosphere. Superb, superb execution and ugh, the lighting is perfect too.

I like how Gi-hun goes through a different emotion each time he pulls the trigger. On the first click, he’s determined to challenge the recruiter but nervous at the same time (as one would expect playing Russian roulette). He is reluctant to pull the trigger and as soon as he does his heart jumps. It’s a pretty normal reaction. On the second click, the recruiter expresses his bafflement about how someone like Gi-hun managed to survive out of the other 441 players. Upon hearing this, Gi-hun pulls the trigger without hesitation. Gi-hun has been asking this same question to himself for years and it’s clear the survivor’s guilt never left him. It’s like he was almost hoping the bullet was there and was somewhat disappointed that it wasn’t. This is shown by how he passes the gun back in a frustrated manner. On the third click, Gi-hun is neither terrified nor suicidal. Quite frankly he doesn’t really care if the bullet is there or not. Live, die, so be it. He’s accepted whatever the outcome may be. But the one thing Gi-hun will never do is sacrifice his ideals, what he stands for and believes in. That he isn’t some scumbag who will cheat his way out. He gives an immense sigh of relief when fate allows him to witness the dumbfounded look on the recruiter’s face after being proven wrong. This is without a doubt a superbly acted scene.

gong yoo's performance in this episode was absolutely INCREDIBLE. netflix drops their content at 2 am my time, so i couldn't watch all episodes that night, but knew i was at least watching episode 1, and MAN sleeping after that was a struggle lol. his acting in the episode is so utterly bone-chilling that the performance has not left me since, and i doubt it will any time soon. i watch a lot of horror, and the death game genre is by far my favorite. this episode horrified, terrified and just downright scared me on a level that no other horror media i've consumed ever has been able to. it truly felt like a horror movie that was on a level incomparable to anything else. what an incredible comeback. i know the perception of the season has been mixed (i personally LOVED it), but i think everyone can agree this episode is incredible in every possible way; from performance, to writing, to execution. it is a damn masterpiece. worth the years long wait for the season 2's release all on its own. i sincerely hope gong yoo gets his flowers, a well-deserved emmy, and even more recognition for the way he acted his ASS OFF in this episode lol.
