While I was watching this movie, one of the first things I noticed was how Malcolm keeps the same suit until the end, loosing his tie, then his jacket, then his shirt, until he seemingly makes peace with Marie. He’s peeling away his armor. Just like John-David says, his whole stance relies on being steady and “impenetrable”. Another point for the visual narrative.

This movie was so captivating. Oh my goodness my eyes were glued to every single shot. As in, the whole movie was a such a layer of peeled onions. You don't get to the truth of why she's upset until the VERY end of the movie and every new layer of information they give shocks me and switches the power balance. One time Malcom's on top...then it's Marie and vice versa. The power balances go up and down so much. Whenever a new layer is peeled open it completely changes the conversation and the way I think. The entire time, I was trying to process and understand what was going on. In the beginning it was a bit difficult to understand but as we go in further, you start to see the truth. Watching the film for the second time, while knowing what the truth is will be something I look forward to doing. This would be such a wonderful film to critically analyze and break apart, then digest.

Great movie, great performance by JDW and Zendaya. Amazing, doing a lot with almost nothing of the stereotypical things we see in American movies. JDW was great. The movie was different than some of the typical American movies, but those who watch European cinema are not surprised and love this type of movie: thought provoking, deep with a lot of different messages: I can see Mrs Pauletta Washington who had to sacrificed a promising career for her husband and family having this kind of conversation. I can Sara Jessica Parker who is said to have forgotten to thank her husband at an award show having that type of conversation. I understand why Sterling K Brown was pissed because they didn't give him enough time to thank his wife. The movie is based on a conversation that can actually take place in a couple, in a marriage. Frustration, feeling of being left behind. The best thing is Malcom finally said Sorry and thank you to Mary. JDW did an awesome job here. Give him more traditional romantic movie with a more seasoned actress.

it’s so funny how john david is on malcolms side! i bet he had to have a lot of empathy to sell the character of malcolm because it’s very easy to see where marie is coming from and be on her side

Phenomenal acting, this movie was brilliant....but also triggered me, I felt like I was watching an argument from my relationship

I need to see John in a comedy because he was hilarious in the movie. That monologue after he read the La Times review was iconic.

Marie: I’m just sad because you didn’t ask me to play in your movie. *tears falling down her face* Malcom: you’re just jealous. Malcom is a fool, she is literally so honest with him but he keeps invalidating her feelings and making her seem like a bad person. I don’t even think it’s so hard to understand her, is he doing that on purpose or?
