Every adaption needs to have a creator like this. A fan. If corporate keeps grabbing books, manga, video games, and other forms of media without having any passion for it the audience will see the tv show or movie is not worth watching.

If you are a fan of the series, you would know that with the pacing it doesn’t work for a movie. It would be better as a mini series. Lord of the Rings was a great adaptation but the creator has passed for many years prior to the movies. Look at the Dr. Seuss adaptions. The Lorax theme is about caring for the planet and Illumination partners with corporate sponsors that are known for doing the opposite. Honestly, I could do an entire podcast on the reasons why many adaptations work and don’t work. What is most upsetting to me is that Netflix could have had the same success with Avatar the Last airbender just like they are having with One Piece but they chose to ignore the creators and mess with the characters. Oh this guy starts as a sexist jerk and learns to be a better warrior from other women okay let’s just get rid of that arc and replace it with nothing.

Seeing Manganiello talking about Crocodile's defeat setting him on his path and how Luffy could very easily turn into Crocodile, almost like a One Bad Day situation, tells me that he _understands_ Crocodile. And Abova talking about the need for family tells me she _understands_ Robin. This is what tells me it's perfect casting. Edit: Even if it's a PR event and likely a fed line, Manganiello has enough nerd cred to either know One Piece or have read part of it and Abova has clearly been on set where everyone loves the story. We've seen the other main cast members start reading the story if they didn't already know the story. So I chose to believe that, even if it's a fed line, it's based in truth and they do know at least the relevant part of the story.

I really hope part of the signing processes involves sending each actor all the DVDs & Trades that are currently out, and seeing how they react. I mean, signing on to a marvel movie maybe there are a few story arcs/trades they are going to be pulling from that may or may not be cannon anymore. One Piece is becoming the gold standard of perfect casting and perfect communication around the project. Matt Owens clearly know what he is doing. That's exactly how you sould run an IP and please the fans while giving a great product for those who don't know anything about the world in question. A lot of showrunners could learn from him.

After all these years and various attempts at different adaptations for different shows, this is the first time I’m genuinely interested in a Live Action series. I was stoked to see Joe as Deathstroke, but that went nowhere, this could be the better stage for him.
