I hate that I love this show. Representation matters and there is something that brings out the 5 year old JAMAICAN girl in me watching a cast of people I can personally identify with i.e. that look like me. Take a minute to think about that... The show makes me uncomfortable and that’s a good thing. If you’re a Black Woman in America thinking about watching it. Do it. If it makes you uncomfortable. Do it, anyway. There is a story being told other than the obvious one that needs to be heard. Thank you ladies. Thank you Spike Lee. Bless ups.

@@msatutude17 Truth. But myself as a self-descibed Spike-stan, I'm only a little surprised at how this came out. Spike Lee is one of the greatest film directors of the last 50 years, unquestionable. And the best can often let their egos and track record get ahead of their better judgement and core artistry as he did here. He's using this show as bully pulpit to voice all his frustrations with politics and pop culture and lost much his ability to sythesize those into a good story as he did with JUNGLE FEVER, MO' BETTA BLUES, HE GOT GAME, etc. Those & most others didn't make the plot and characters suffer to make blatant unsubtle points; i.e. crack addiction in JF as opposed to British actors in Ho'wood in s2 of SHE'S. He' using the show as his twitter, ha. Spike may have run a bit dry of subjects to write on as shown by his last films. He didn't write SHE HATE ME, BLACK KKKLANSMAN was aiight only cowritten by him, etc. He may need better partners likewhomever he worked with on 25th HOUR or falling bac and letting the original script and characters speak like with SUMMER OF SAM. SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT the tv show will continue to suffer a slow awkward death if he does not get fresh, younger BLACK WOMEN creatives in the writing room and director chair. He almost headed that way with the first season but he has to get back on track, please baby please.

I really hate how we categorize mix people as a different group of black people . As a person who is Louisiana French creole, I understand that is black Americans can have different mixtures of cultures or races and still be African-American. African genes are more dominant and African-Americans ( black peoples who are decedents of the slave trade ), are not even 90-100% black to tell “mixed” black people they aren’t black . Just my sentiments 🙃

@@omozeidehenre239 Every released content is somehow talking about inequality. Honestly, since I was born I've always seen everyone the same and that's how I was raised, and it makes me mad that instead of talking about how the majority of people are not damn racist, only the negative comes out and the media doesn't help, not just netflix. The more you promote something, the more people start thinking like it and that's why I don't watch content like that.

@@jhonatanramirez6368 A lot of us experience discrimination in the worst ways. We have a right to discuss this. This is not a matter of think positively and it will go away. Because people before us discussed it openly (many died doing so) many of us (including you) have benefited. What is your majority to someone's form of the majority? Also, who said everyone is racist? Whiteness has mainly been promoted as a result, people tend to focus on whiteness. So, I guess in this regard you are correct. This is an issue. Which is why we are talking about the issues of race in America and particularly in the entertainment sector. Being "nice" and not "talking" about race and white supremacy in this country and around the world isn't going to make things go away.

@Tan87ful
@Tan87ful 5 жыл бұрын
Well if you are only given roles where you play a slave, a maid, a criminal, or the best friend/side kick to the white main character, then that’s a problem. Films like Black Panther and Overlord are relatively new so things are slowly getting better. I remember Men in Black and Shaft being top favorites back in the day among my family and black friends so more of those types of films are needed in 2019. They didn’t need to do reboots of those films. They need to create more stories of science fiction and fantasy and they can have people of color as the leads. White actors don’t have to worry about this. All you have to do is look at the popular blockbuster film franchises like the MCU, DCEU, and Star Wars and see the main roles that white actors play. Hollywood can do whatever they want but they shouldn’t complain if not enough people are going to see the films they put out. Idk exactly who they are referring to when they say that but I bet that black people and just people of color in general.
