Netgear Nighthawk M2, Unboxing & Comparison to M1

This is me unboxing the Nighthawk M2 mobile router, and comparing it to the Nighthawk M1, Also a quick mention about Smarty which is the SIM plan that I have been using, I hope you like it.

Hi James, any differences in download speed? Also we were in communication a little while ago about roof mounting an antenna. Have you made any progress?

I’ve just upgraded from a cheap Huawei E5577 MiFi to the Nighthawk M2 & am very pleased with it. I recently bought a Poynting Puck 2 antennae & paid my local dealer 1 hr labour to install it (hole through roof so didn’t want to invalidate bodyshell warranty). Presently in van on Anglesey in a poor 4g area & my Nighthawk M2 has been averaging 30 Mbps whilst attached to the Poynting (with a max of 46 Mbps). Not cheap, and not sure if I would have upgraded from an M1, but blown away by the speed/performance on this combo.

Hello Gnarly, I don't see much difference between the M1 & M2, but I do on both with the roof mounted Antenna, In the end as the van is only 2 years old, I got the dealer to fit the Antenna, I bought it and let them do it, Just so there is no issue with the warranty, It is in the following Vlog. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYrOnYKumLaBiaM Thanks for watching and Happy Camping. @@Stickymicky25 Hello Michael, I do find it works better with the External Antenna, I upgraded from the Pontying to a proper roof fitted one, as its powered will charge the Router and I can leave it all in place permanently. Hope that helps. Thansk for watching & Happy Camping. James

@@David-ve9zm Hello David, Thanks for commenting, Like you I don't see very much difference between the M1 & M2, Just a few extra features. It diose make a big difference fitting an external Antenna. I went for the Puck Style in the end. I have had a couple of sites were phone signal is very poor and have limited speeds but ion the whole it works fine. Thanks for watching & happy Camping James

Hi the M2 is slightly better but there is not a great deal in it.

Hi Thanks for commenting, For me it is about the improved Antenna, that is in the device as apposed to the one that it is your phone. I have struggled in the past using the phone in the caravan as you are inside a metal box that can limit the signal. Also I have had an external GPS antenna fitted to the Caravan on the roof, So I can plug the router in and get an even better signal. I find it just simpler to have the router powered and installed and not have to worry about the phone. Thanks for watching and commenting. James

@@CaravanEscapades101 OK stupid question so if your stood outside the campervan or rv and have no signal to your phone you can then go plug in to that antenna with your phone and then get a signal? Oh I just noticed separate sim, I was trying to find one that can just connect the phone direct to so no need for two sims

@@googlelimp9834 Hi you can't plug the Antenna into the phone but you can plug it into the router if the router is struggling for sugnal. The Antenna is powered and designed to pick up phone signals better than the phone. The Antenna on the roof is about the size of an upturned bowl. The router does have a better Antenna built in than the standard one in the phone. Hope that helps. James

​@@CaravanEscapades101 ah ok i see, because I have unlimited on my phone I run my computer and laptop through it nbuit while I'm away in brecon I have no signal so yeah was trying to find out a way I can find some kind of Antener booster for a phone as we have no signals there. so thanks

@@googlelimp9834 no problem. For the external Antenna it will need to be plugged into on of the mobile routers. No guarantee of a signal but it will be better than tour phone in week signal areas, also dependent on the Service Provider.
