RCFlyer85 best hardware is questionable as it’s a five year old router with 32bit coding dated back over 10 years. Duma also has issues with bugs so it’s worth visiting their site to see the latest news and for updates that are due.

I bought this device last week. I was having troubles with high ping while gaming all the time. Whenever my wife watched Netflix or even when she was web browsing, I was always having ping spikes and on top of that I had constant packet losses. After I bought this beauty and set my router/modem provided by my ISP to bridge mode, oh boy my life changed completely. Right now my wife can watch Netflix and I can game at the same time. It's just awesome. There are no packet loss and no ping spikes. Everybody is happy at home.

I have this router, it is excellent. I had the same issues with the dual band WiFi as Driftor so I can't recommend using the smart WiFi. It was also somewhat confusing to set up the port forwarding. My business and my home run off the same network, currently have 30 devices that connect, 2 alarm systems, computers, phones, gaming, etc. It all runs pretty flawlessly, I previously had an R1 and recommend this router wholeheartedly, especially if you are like me and have a pretty big network.

@@TRAGICTRIXIE Actually ISPs can easily block any router they dont own by only whitelisting the mac addresses of their routers so when you directly connect a third party router to the wall, you may not get a public IP address. This is why the bridge mode feature on ISP routers is very useful (some ISPs make this feature available by default and some you'd have to contact tech support to have it enabled). It basically allows you to bypass their router which forwards your public IP address to your router of choice so all incoming and outgoing packets are routed by your own router. If this doesnt make much sense, google how bridge mode works and how to use it on ISP routers.

I love this router and the software it provides for control over all my devices. It allows me to truly control all connections in real time as well as the amount of bandwidth each one uses. I love the guest use as well since I can turn it on when kids have a sleep over and shut off the next morning no need to handout the password 13 times. Cutting the kids tv off at bedtime, and so on. Overall love this device and especially love the software.

I've used this router for almost a year now, and I've noticed the exact same improvements in WiFi range and quality. My only issue with the software is with the Geofiltering, etc... I can never tell FOR SURE if it's actually working or not. Also, my ping on the router doesn't always match my ping that the game tells me I have, etc. There's some inconsistencies there, but overall, great product. I love the control that it gives me over my home internet. Lucky you for getting one for free.

I have this router and it's awesome, but I have the 450 version I got at Costco for $200 vs $300 for the 500 version. The only difference is 2.4ghz is 600mbs vs 800mbs which you will never notice. For $200 this router is fantastic. I almost never play on anything higher than a 12-14 ping on COD, sometimes I get 25-30 ping when playing on P2P servers. If you don't have net duma on you will get in the range of 60-70 ping on COD because you can't control where you're being placed. The only problem is is that COD servers, and lag compensation still suck and you can't avoid shitty insta death matches. PING is definitely not KING with Black Ops 4. It has profiles for every game possible so no matter what you're playing, you can have you can control how far your connecting to. My only gripe is that lately I have been having to reset the router because it keeps losing connection to my consoles when I turn them off. You can still play games just fine when it does that but you lose connection to the DumaOS and GeoFiltering.

Good review, thx Drift0r! Ive had the Nighthawk with the NetDuma for allmost a year and am a happy camper. Living in a rather small 120 m2 2 story house I have good coverage all over. No problems. Main reason for buying the router is the GeoFilter feature for my gaming. (Yes am hard wired). Minimizes the rage quitting 🙄 Recommended.

You can’t compare, one is up to date and the other is using a 5 year old designed board, 32bit and jolly old coding behind a software. I would visit their respective forums and read about each one and the bugs. Also make note of firmware fixes, how often.

I actually prefer the Amplify Router, because it's like a little white box and not an ugly big spider who can't fit anywhere. And the app is really good for easy open ports, and every setting you want right there on your phone.

You just have to name the two wireless signals 2G and 5G different names at the router. Then you just choose which one to connect to from each device like normal.

You could easily fix the dual band issues by having each one broadcasted as it's own connection, and have 2.4 or 5 on them to differentiate.

Ive had this thing for 2 months now. Revolutionary stuff. You think speed is everything. Naw bruh, you'll leanr theres more than just speed with this. I recommend everyone go to the Netduma Forums. They are very active and will help you get properly set. I learned alot with this thing in connecting, speeds, ping! Everything is here. This is marketed more for gaming. NOT all around use. But works well with many of your devices. And the QoS is REALLY broken down.

So that's what a new one looks like?-lol I got a used one from Amazon -Warehouse deals, they left that protective inner cardboard out, no instructions. The Router was sliding around in that big box. Arrived with one antenna broken. It still works so I guess I'm lucky. Oh and use MS Edge for your browser to change settings, it doesn't work with chrome.

Dual band 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz and a/b/g/n/ac is basically a standard in all newer routers nowadays Drift0r. With this product you are basically paying the price of a Tri-band router but getting a dual band router and the extra money is for the net duma software??? I would rather recommend people to go for a Tri-band router over this for the best wifi experience because the hardware is worth the price instead of some proprietary netduma software which is easily found in other vpn services for free or cheaper.

Yes, you can connect the XR500 directly to the Modem from your company fine. But if you plug it directly into the router you used to have you can have many random connection issues.

I have a old nighthawk and it worked great till one day i was told by comcast it went into breach mode and they wouldnt help fix it cause they said it was a 3rd party device and then netgear was willing to help but it was way to difficult for an average person with all these numbers and crap since then ive been using comcast modem

Your connection isn’t really fast enough (judging by the values on your bufferbloat screenshot) to take advantage of the XR500. It helps with your wifi the other stuff is just as easy handled by your R1. Things change when you get connections over 100mbit though. The R1 can’t really handle these speeds it seems. I own both a XR500 and a R1 in two different places. The XR500 will supply full bandwidth (300 mbps in my case) to all devices including wifi. The R1 is on a 200 mbit connection but the devices themselves fail to get over100 mbps. It’s even worse with the new Duma OS software which barely breaks 25 up / 3 down on a 200mbit fiber connection in my PS4s speed test. If you’re going to get a gaming router at this point in time the XR500 is the obvious choice for me.

I really don't recommend buying this. This router is really not worth the cost and I'm even a Netgear customer. I have a Nighthawk 1600AC which isn't a cheap router but it basically does everything this router does for cheaper minus the netduma software but that can be substituted by freeware if you know what to look for. If you do have a big house and a large area to cover with wifi its better to buy a home internet package like google home which provides multiple access points all linked together on 1 wifi connection. This allows the use of 5 Ghz band without loss through walls as you can just place the access points ideally to have full signal basically everywhere in your home. Also btw they are working on new routers with 60 Ghz wifi band that are basically ethernet done wirelessly so I would hold off on upgrading to this until 60 Ghz band becomes more widely used.
