Netgear Switch / Fan Replacement

This is the first how-to video in a new series about upgrading my home network titled "Rack Rehab". I have been meaning to put together some instructional videos on how to wire your home network and this seemed like a great opportunity to show you how to get a good deal on a high-quality switch which can be the backbone of a good network.

Did you have to cut and splice anything on this fan? How quiet was it after the swap?

Ok, i bought the fan, followed the instructions and completed the replacement. YEARS OF NOISE are gone... nice and quiet here.... THANKS SO MUCH.

I have the exact same switch bit the v3 instead of v2. I love it and I agree with you about the fan noise I'm going to change mine soon. Great video.

You got it man, they’re great for the price. Noctua fans are the way to go if you want super quiet and airflow.

Hope all goes well for your upgrades. I also am doing upgrades to my network ATM. I will be adding 8 then finally 12 IPCamers around the house. I just Sniped a GS728TPPv2 (380 watt)from Ebay $53.( Some Yahoo ripped out 2 of the 4 SPF ports)

What was the original model of fan, and the replacement? I have a similar FS728TP with the same dreadful fan noise, but alternatives are hard to find because the pin output from the original Delta EFB0412VHD-R00 is a stall detector (floats high on failure) rather than a tach output (square wave while running) as is more common. Does your replacement behave properly if you force a fan stall?

@thenetguy . I have plenty of rack space . Couldn’t I add something like a noctua Nf-f12 to the top and cut out a square so the fan could sit on top? That way I easily have similar static pressure , way more airflow but even much quieter ?

I’m guessing they put the fan in there for a reason. I bet you could come up with something with a thermsister and or thermal switch.

I just started watching this video and i swear the fan quieted down... it knows... tks for a great video, i have 3-4 of these that i will try this on... I couldn't quite tell which wires connected to which on the new fan and the spliced connector... 3 wires on both and which colors connected to which ?? tks...

Hi The Net guy , are you experienced with the fan replacement in the SX508M ? I like it more quiet but the Noctua NF-A4x20 PWM is more quiet but gives a Fan warning (yellow) . I look for a better fan. The original Foxconn is too loud . I hope I hear you

What fans to recommend replace NETGEAR ProSafe GS748T v3 replacement fans?? They are really noisy.

Noctua would be great for quieting down that if you can find the right size.

help! Please .. I have 2 switchs that do not work by error in fan. However, I can not find in Brazil or on international purchase sites the fan model for replacement. I would like to know if someone could help me guiding how to do some kind of bypass (circumventing the sensor) for the switch to work with a generic fan or even to work without fan, so that I test if only the fans are committed or something More is bad in them. I greatly thank those who can help! It is a 12V with 3 wires and a 5V with 2 wires.

You could go to local hardware store and get 2 machine screws and nuts to mount that fan with.(total cost about $1) Video turned GETTO with the Zip ties......But I still liked it. Also list your Where you got the Fan would be helpful.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, if this were a business install or something mission critical I’d have come up with different mounting. As it stands they have held up very well so far :)
