Thankyou I was born in nether field in 1958 dunstone street my dad hedley Taylor worked at British sugar corporation in colwick and drove steam and shunting engines and my dad picked me up sometimes at the crossing and made bacon and eggs on his shovel in the engine. I spent hours with my dog buster around colwick ponds lovely memories and many times in the back of Jackie bells pub yard at the end of our street with a packet of crisps and a bottle of popxxse

Thank you - Yes it DID bring back some memories - both heart-warming and heart-rending at the same time. It also conjured up, in my imagination, faces of many great men with whom I was privileged to work, from 1954 and 1963. Thank you Sir.

I lived in Gedling and used to walk to Netherfield to the fords shop, also worked at the cotton mill on evening shift as a kreeler ( tying the the broken cotton ends together) loved working there, I was called smiler as I always had a big smile for everyone.

Yes! Upstairs in the toy bit...where I used to get slime....remember that? a gooey substance in a little pot. They had caps for guns, snap-its that you threw on the ground... those things you pressed down on a sucker with a spring that eventually jumped up... and I remember buying a brandy glass from here that looked like it had brandy in it but when you 'threw' the liquid at someone it stayed in the glass as it was built in the sides...ahh....innocent times

Thanks for all your kind comments. Never really thought this video would be of much interest except to my own family. Only wish I'd taken more now. When you are running the camera you never really think of 36 years down the road.

Thanks for posting this video. I was born in Carnarvon St in 1955, used to play at the bottom of Bourne St, walk along the "boards" - the fence that ran alongside the railway lines. Seeing the mill and the big chimney was very nostalgic. Remember my dad taking me to an open day at the Colwick engine workshops and getting to see inside the boiler of an engine. Magic.

I started out as a barrow boy, taking the yarn from the warehouse to the machine rooms. Progressed to working on uptwisters. The manager who gave me a job was an ex professional footballer. I think he played for Lincoln. He had to give it up on loosing a kidney. He gave me great support in going to college twice a week. Worked in every department. Unfortunately cannot remember his name. His daughter was a footballer for Nottingham Forest. My next door neighbour worked in the main office, his name was Paul Souter? Remember company hiring a train to take whole factory to Skegness for the day. Paid for Christmas party at Sherwood Rooms. Weekly whist nights. Unfortunately I realised textiles was about to go into decline and despite reasonably good pay. I left Nottingham for a complete change of direction. Returned five years later.

Addition to my first comment... As well as buying my beautiful wedding dress from Netherfield, there was a small Jewellers, almost next to Bourne's, can't remember the name sorry, anyway, I had my gorgeous engagement ring from there too, so met my husband at Bourne's, bought my wedding dress from a little shop that was closing down which was quite close to the pub, and had my engagement ring.... All from Netherfield... Thank you for good memories.. Xx

There were shops where you could buy things. Now there's the occasional proper shop, butcher, Coop etc: but now there's a load of tatty rubbish, grotty caffs hairdressers etc. Too unbalanced. At least there's a dentist and optician, but there's nothing to attract the shopper once you've got your groceries.
