@@sebastiansahlgren7090 the method that he has used in the video will work on LAN/while youre on the same network. If you want to be able to turn on your PC from anywhere you want you will need to use port forwarding and forward any connections made to the port 9 (usually the WOL port number) and then configure your router to forward this connection from your public IP to your PC's internal private ip

I did something similar. I used a raspberry pi with a simple 4 line program to turn on one of the output pins on the pi. It's connected to a npn transistor that grounds my desktops power button and turns it on. The nice thing is I can VPN to my home network, connect to the pi via ssh and run the program. It turns on the desktop. Then I can connect to and use the desktop via my phone from either Chrome remote desktop or Microsoft remote desktop app. I can see and interact with the PC screen on my phone. When I'm done, to turn it off, I'm already viewing the PCs screen just turn it off via the phones gui interface with the PC. No untrusted app with your Mac address. Works quite well and I've been using it for a bit over 2 years now. Hope someone finds this useful.

Man I have a raspberry Pi and an Arduino, and I was thinking about doing the same with my pc. Do you think there's a way to do it with the Arduino only? By using a wifi hat to connect it to the internet like an loT device and use it to do the same? Please respond.
@1967_RS-SS Жыл бұрын
I used a transistor since I had one. If your arduino has a relay on board, that could work. Assuming yours turn on the same way you'd connect the wire to the on button to a normally open relay. Then it would need code to turn the relay on for one second to simulate pushing the button.
@jagadishgospat2548 Жыл бұрын
@@1967_RS-SS i do have a few transistors that go into small circuits, and I could use the Arduino with that transistor right? It should be cheaper than a relay shield. Now I need to add a wifi shield and connect it with the internet and activate it somehow. Do you have any resources or videos you know that i could use to make this project?
@1967_RS-SS Жыл бұрын
@@jagadishgospat2548 There shouldn't be a problem using a transistor with the Arduino but interfacing with it to toggle the channel would be the next challenge. There have been a lot of projects since that one so I may not be recalling it correctly but as I remember the reason I used a Raspberry Pi was because it supported an operating system that I could SSH into to run the command that toggled the pin. If you wanted to do that with an Arduino I'm not the best person to advise on how to do that. Sounds interesting though!

@@osam2772 in most situations no, your router firewall should block any incoming packets assuming you're not port forwarding UDP port 9/have UPnP enabled + malware enables that port. Even then most internet routers block WOL packets so you **should** be fine! That being said if something goes wrong I take no responsibility (aka no liability for online help) 😁 If you're trying to get a remote setup working, have a Raspberry Pi (or similar lightweight computer VPN setup then you can WOL from anywhere somewhat securely, assuming the VPN is setup in a secure manor.

@@k9lego Actually no, Malware can abuse this and infect other devices on your network.
