GREAT VIDEO, I remember hearing about this in a couple college classes ago and now I am in my routing and switching course where I just could not wrap my head around it and this solved all my questions!

Can i transport 2 network traffic over a cpe by using a vlan enabled switch?

does VLAN and TRUNKING also work with LAYER1 protocols?
@cjdnetworkingandsecurity25113 жыл бұрын
Hi, Layer 1 is the physical layer. It carries the 1 and 0 as electronic signals, or bits. You need a Layer 2 switch for VLANs carried as Ethernet Frames. A Layer 3 switch will also work, but is able to do IP routing (packets).

What if the switch is layer 3?

so ports on the router that arent trunk ports should be untagged correct?
@cjdnetworkingandsecurity25112 жыл бұрын
If an access port is in vlan 10 for example, the trunk between the router and the switch will add a tag of vlan 10 to the packet so it know to drop it into vlan 10 at the other end. The tag will come off as the packet is decapsulated.

Thanks for taking time out to do this video; it was very helpful for me! I am finally starting to grasp the use of VLANs. I'm doing some networking at home and since I'm about to be adding IP cameras and an additional switch or two, I can see how complicated this is going to be (or can be). The video graphics were great but your speaking cadence seemed 'rushed/hurried'. It felt like you were nervous or hurrying through the material. So much so that you frequently paused to seemingly catch your breath (which can be heard as the lip smacking). That was distracting and I felt anxious but otherwise, great video! Straight to the point and detailed enough to get the point across.
