I've been actively involved in networking for the past fifteen years, so it was late in my career that I discovered the power of effective networking. For actual connections, it is also important to be interested in the person. If you find that there has been no way to find something interesting about the person, whether it be their interests, motivations, or humor, the connection will never happen and you can spare yourself the time and effort. It's important to filter out bad connections since they will drain your energy and outlook on future events.
