On a walk I collected some beautiful grasses and flowers. This resulted in a small monotype series. This time, slowly, explained step by step.

Danke Gerda. A really desirable alternative to sun-printing plants; the detail is so fine. To remove the bits and pieces left by fragile grasses try placing and pulling away with a sticky sellotape strip.

This was all new to me but after some reading of the comments I discovered this technique uses a Gelli Plate not a piece of glass as the clear base to work on. There are several recipes on how to make your own Gelli plate for under $10 - example: 1 x Knox Unflavored Gelatin 4 pack 1 x 6 oz bottle of Vegetable Glycerine (or 2/3 cup) 1/3 c HOT water 5 x 7 ( or 9 x 13 ) container with a SMOOTH BOTTOM this size will be the size of your print Pour 2/3 cup (the whole 6 oz bottle) of glycerine into the smooth-bottomed dish. Sprinkle in ALL FOUR PACKETS of the gelatin . Stir quickly with a fork, as it will start to “bloom” and thicken immediately. Quickly pour in the HOT water and stir it around to break up any thick parts or clumps and pop any bubbles with a knife. This side is not the important side - the bottom of the pan is. Let it set up for 2-4 hours before using in fridge or open air - do NOT cover To remove the Gelli Plate loosen the edge with a knife and invert onto a piece of cardboard or wood and it will release from the container with the perfectly smooth side up. If it tears don't worry. Cut it up and place it in a microwave safe bowl, heat until melted, then pour it back in the pan and repeat the process. I found that ALL of the Gelli plates (purchased and homemade) need a little “breaking in” period of 5-10 prints. The surface is initially VERY slick and the paint won’t move around very well.. so you have to keep brayering paint on and lifting it off. After this conditioning, the plates work amazing and the brayer rolls better. (Also- don’t go back and forth- just one direction.) All the above info was cut and pasted from articles on how to make Gelli Plates. I hope this helps everyone get started - thanks Gerda for continuing to share your knowledge and stimulate people to create. You always amaze me with your creativity.

You can use the time while the paint is drying, to clean up the background with a bit of water on a cotton swab or paper towel. You’ll love Golden Open paints if you try a few colors. The leaf prints stay wet a long time.
