This is the best explanation I have seen on the Trigeminal Nerve. I have Trigeminal Neuralgia, and appreciate the work you've gone through to explain the nerves involved. Now I have names to put with my symptoms in explaining my pain to my team of doctors.

I am a first year chiropractic student and studying for a neuroanatomy test. This video has helped me out so much with the CNS portion of the trigeminal nerve. I was having trouble visualizing the 4 nuclei and you cleared it up and then some. Really liked how you throw in practical/clinical knowledge into the video.

You're the man! You took 3 medical school lectures into one! Plus it made a lot more sense, so thank you.

Your gold-colored (power) shirt & purple (justice) tie along with the green (faith) ink make it look like you're celebrating Mardi Gras! Prenons du bon temps! Thanks for this video! Best explanation and illustration I've seen.

So clear - Thank you! - that even I, a massage therapist with only the rudes of A&P, grasp each subsection as you go. It's long only because nature crafted this very branchy river. You're our tour guide.

That is simply fantastic. Following these lectures with an anatomy book is the best you can ask for! Shame that online I couldn't find these wonderful diagrams you drew. (I could draw them but a diagram with straight lines would be probably neater). Thank you for the lesson!

is there such thing as a spheno-palatine nerve? there some some nasal branches (naso-palatine etc) but they all come from the pterygopalatine ganglion, not from the infraorbital n.

Hi Dr. Ward, Could you speak more on the projections of the mesencephalic nucleus? My understanding is that it does not project to the Thalamus (like you've stated in your video) but mainly projects to the Trigeminal motor nucleus and the Supratrigeminal nucleus of the reticular formation to generate a chewing rhythm.
@Howell_Jolly7 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for a such excellent explanation. Can you help me with the question? So, the conscious proprioception of the jaw has only 2 neurons (the 1st nucleus - in the mesencephalic trigeminal nucleus, the 2nd nucleus - in the VPM of contralateral thalamus), right? Because the dorsal column-medial lemniscal system has 3 neurons (dorsal spinal ganglion, nuclei gracilis/cuneatus, and contralateral thalamic VPL).

At 20:57 I think what passes through the Sphenopalatine foramen is the Superior Posterior Nasal Branch.

legendary video. Complex but you helped make it as simple as you could considering! Thanks a lot! Also, I agree with some of the comments below that the spingopalatine nerve doesn't appear to exist? I was following along in my Netter's textbook as you went through the lecture and I don't see it anywhere.

Good day sir. At 08:08, are u sure that it is the Zygomaticotemporal nerve or the Zygomatic branch of the Maxillary nerve?
@eldo19957 жыл бұрын
thank you for this video!it was really helpful!But i have 2 questions...I read somewhere that some fibers from the chief sensory nucleus also follow the dorsal trigeminal thalamic tract to the ipsilateral VPM of the thalamus...? And the other question is about the mescengephalic nucleus of V.Except of the reflex that it participates in, what kind of tract do the fibers from this nucleus follow?Are they part of trigerminalthalamic tract or trigerminal lemniscus? If anyone knows to answer please tell me!Thank you!

This is great, thank you. One question - are you sure there is a sphenopalatine nerve? There is such artery that goes through SP foramen, but I couldn't find such nerve in the literature (except 2 small sphenopalatine nerveS, connecting V2 to PP ganglion).

Great video!! Thank you so much!! Can you help me solve this question I read on an exam practice: "What happens if the Trigeminal is cut bellow the Medulla" In my opinion the answer would be: nothing happens!! Lol If it was bellow the pons, would be: Loss of pain and temperature sensitivity
@ClinicalAnatomyExplained10 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with your answer but I think that the question is deliberately confusing. The trigeminal NERVE cannot be cut below the medulla and the spinal trigeminal GANGLION only extends to around C1, at which point it melds with the substantia gelatinosa of the dorsal horn, which contains cell bodies that sense pain and temp from the cervical region. Good luck!
