Neurodiversity and New Zealand's education system

To launch our research report into the experiences of neurodivergent children and those supporting them in Aotearoa New Zealand’s education system, we hosted a free webinar to discuss the reports key findings and to explore what needs to happen to improve the support and opportunities neurodivergent young people receive in New Zealand.
The webinar is facilitated by one of the report’s co-authors Dr Nina Hood and hosts Dr Willow Sainsbury (Educational Psychologist and Lecturer at the University of Auckland), Tami Harris (CEO of Acorn Charitable Trust, which provides integrated multidisciplinary support for neurodiverse children) and Annabelle March (Neurodiversity advocate and University Student).

Very good conversation. NZ is so far behind in having strategies and funding for Autism & Neurodiversity in school and beyond. Australia ios not much better. NZ needs a Autism + Strategy. The video here was riveting and sad at same time. I am very empathic about what people are trying to do there and the frustrations they experience.

Thank you all for a wonderful seminar! I thought in my rose coloured world that this had already happened and that help had been made easier. I worked for many years at an early childhood centre and our children were all individuals which we worked with as we could. We tried different ways for inclusion and all the teachers were very happy to upskill as we learnt how to help our diverse children in any aspect. Thank you all for sharing your experiences and insights.
