I am a lay person, and I have Neurofibromatosis type 1. I understand most of what you presented. I have a few basic undergraduate science courses under my belt. I think you are excellent at presenting the information. I recently had a neurofibroma excised from my vagus nerve. It was done less than a week ago, and I'm recovering at home well.
