Neurographic art is a way of drawing that recreates the outer from the inner. The world is a reflection of the beliefs we hold. Beliefs are arbitrary limits on what is possible, and therefore frame the limited way in which the world is experienced.
Mindfulness drawing meditation was discovered and developed by Pavel Piskarev, a Russian psychologist and creative entrepreneur that discovered neurographic art.
Neurographic art is an artistic approach to transforming ourselves and the world. This special drawing meditation helps to link our conscience with the subconscious by activating connections between our brain cells - neurons - thus offering the key to infinite sources of energy available through our brains. This activity can be performed as a family meditation.
Almost always from the perspective of separation, believing that the perceiver and the perceived are separate rather than one and the same. In this video Mary Amini- Neuro couch demonstrates and explains Neurographic art.

It's elicited some kind of mindfulness for me. Like, as I rounded up each intersection, the creation I see on my paper gives this feeling of being able to smoothe the sharp edges; kinda like doing away with edginess by relaxing. I had been on pain relievers for years but somehow they never really gave me some relief! I am so tired at 70 getting my life off of these synthetic drugs that leave me fog-minded. So, I'm happy I came across this video and started "looping". And let's see where this takes me. Thanks for this discovery!

I agree with most of this however there is a major problem with the “release” premise. Another way that our brains work is that whatever we focus on we get more of (reticular activating system). WE tell our brains which filters to use (we cannot possibly take in everything around us. That’s why we’ve never seen a navy blue Tahoe in town until we have one ourselves. Blue Tahoe’s weren’t important to us until we had one.) So when doing this it wd be extremely beneficial to focus on what you WANT in your life vs something you don’t want I want to BE HEALTHY (better still use the present tense: I am healthy) is VASTLY DIFFERENT from I release all illness (focus of health? Or focus on illness? YOU PICK). I am independently wealthy is the opposite of “Releasing poverty “ or I don’t want to be broke anymore…
@mary_amini
@mary_amini 9 ай бұрын
You are right that what you think about you bring about. The point of a release is to empty the garden of your mind from its weeds. In order for you to plant any seeds of intention with the subconscious first you have to establish a connection with it and be aware of it. Releases allow us to establish a connection with our inner world and to release the things we don't want. It is essentially de-weeding your garden. If you don't de-weed then the weeds will also have an influence on what grows in your subconscious mind and therefore your automatic responses to traumatic or fear-enducing events. Now if you don't plant anything after de-weeding, then the weeds grow back. This why we combine this practice with programming compositions to do exactly what you suggest. Also even with the releases, even though we begin by expressing the negative thought, the rest of the session is focused on what we DO want, ie the resolution, the alchemy of the negative feelings to something beautiful and empowering. We focus on creating peace and harmony within, and connecting to others that can bring positive energy into the situation. and in the end the coloured piece becomes something beautiful and pleasing that no one would know originated from pain or anxiety. So we are practicing focusing on the positive rather than the negative. We find the positive in a negative expression. We can't deny the existence of the negative. That will also cause disorder and dis-ease. We need to find healthy expressions for the darkness so we can bring light into all aspects of our life. There is no toxic positivity here.

Very interesting. I have fibromyalgia and would love to know more. I don’t understand how Mary can go so fast on the counterintuitive lines. If you go that fast it seems you would have to be just following where the hand wants to go…there’s not enough gap to process where it wants to go intuitively then do the opposite. Even though she has practiced this a lot, I still don’t see how it’s possible.
@mary_amini
@mary_amini 2 жыл бұрын
The reason it looks like I am drawing the lines fast is because I allow for the line to flow a bit before i see where not to go next. I find the uncomfortable feeling in my stomach and I stick with it but over time I have learned to allow fluidity between changes in direction. So it looks like I am drawing them fast. But it is a great point. Take your time and go slow. Sometimes, to make myself more uncomfortable i use my non-dominant hand or draw the line from right to left. These intensify the experience. Hope this helps.

@mary_amini
@mary_amini 2 жыл бұрын
Well I have done more than 3 days in a row of rounding, but then again I had the luxury of a lockdown and Covid. You can still do the same thing, it would just take you longer to round and in those types of practices, you can stop after a set time. You can give yourself let's say, 30 min chunks, and don't get up until the time is done and then come back to it when you can again. I hope this helps.

Some things in life though need backtracked so we can have a do-over in a better way, and choose a little bit different path, or build on something we've already done instead of just leaving it behind and starting over from scratch. Some things need repaired, not trashed. This is confusing. No wonder the guy is fighting making the line go where it's not "supposed" to go. How can we tell the difference between letting the line go where it wants to go and where we think it should go? It seems like you're making up rules that aren't always necessary. However, I am intrigued and want to try this. I think this could be a valuable tool to work through problems, see things differently, and do a kind of brain re-boot.

@@creativeplanetjanet I am glad you have a way to run away from the unpleasant things in life, but let me see if I can explain things a bit better. The way you know the difference between going with your intuition and going against it, is the discomfort you feel internally at actually going against your intuition. It just feels off and wrong. And we are doing this on purpose. We want to create an interruption in our internal communication. I hope this makes more sense. I am going to do a full video with explanations on my channel soon if this was not enough information.

I am confused about the curved neurographic lines - do you also try to draw the opposite of what you brain tells you or can you just freely draw the curved lines?
@mary_amini
@mary_amini 9 ай бұрын
If you draw the lines as the brain tells you, then you are repeating your conscious patterns. If you draw them "freely" or instinctively then we are repeating our subconscious patterns. We want to do neither. We want to create a pattern interrupt for both. So we want to feel where either the mind or the heart tell us to go and go anywhere but there. There is tension in the body and mind when we draw them this way. and that tension is what we are looking for. That is why in the beginning a lot of new students draw jagged lines because they change direction quickly and abruptly to gain the feeling for what the lines are like. later on you learn to surrender to this process and draw more smooth lines rather than angular ones. It is a process and it takes time. Hope this helps.
@Fairygoblet
@Fairygoblet 2 жыл бұрын
I've watched the videos. Let me see if I have this right. When you first do the lines you are going against intuition, and when you are cleaning them up and coloring, you are going with your intuition. Do I have that right?
@mary_amini
@mary_amini 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Fairy, Yes, you essentially have that right. When expressing energy in linear format we want to be intentional about it and therefore not go with the intuition allowing our subconscious to repeat its familiar patterns. And when it comes to rounding we are actually looking to harmonize our feelings and remove sharpness. We tend to get a lot of insight during this process. it is like a communication between the subconscious and the conscious mind. And the colouring is all about subconscious expression. This is the time you go with what makes the work seem pretty to you. that is the only thing that matters. That you feel good about it in the end and by surrendering to your subconscious you will be amazed at what you will find revealed to you.

My darling Kelly You are asking too much of just one algorithm. We use different ones for letting go and others to plan and program. To ask one piece to do it all is asking too much of yourself and the art. You are expressing opposing energies in the same work and that can make you feel as you said, stuck. I have a 12 week program for people who are trying to do as you are and so I want to tell you that it takes time and multiple pieces of work to achieve what you want. I may even say I am over 200 pieces in and still healing. So have patience, and try many algorithms. Also be careful with your language. Saying you NEED something, means you don't have it in your present moment. If you don't acknowledge it as present you won't be able to experience it. I would love to talk to you about this more if you are open. If you are please feel free to email me at info@maryamini.com

I am drawing and painting all my life and I know how much it helps. I live with chronic pain and had severe migraines in my youth. Then, I learned about biofeedback although I never had the opportunity to test it myself. So, I think, this neurographic stuff could be something similar. Now my question: I simply don't get why in the beginning I have to draw the lines AGAINST my inner feelings. That seems wrong and I miss the explanation why this is necessary. Can you explain?
@mary_amini
@mary_amini 9 ай бұрын
Edda the reason you want to do it against your feelings is because you want to create a pattern interrupt in the brain and force it to do something new. Your brain likes to be energy efficient and avoid making neuro connections. When you force it to do something new, then it has to pay attention and do the work it wants to avoid. We want to create the tension to force the brain to create something new rather than reusing what it already knows, which is what it wants to do and makes you feel comfortable when it is doing it. Doing new things makes you uncomfortable because your brain can't use pre-existing patterns to predict what is to come and has to go into uncharted territory. We are trying to do this while keeping the body and mind in a state of peace and avoid fight or flight responses. I hope this helps explain it a bit.

By intentionally not following my intuitive mind to make it pretty by planning the lines out, they consequently look straighter with some rough edges, reminds me of disorganization and opposite of peace and i actually feel an energy of anger coming from the lines i created...actually looking at them makes me feel very uncomfortable. Could you please share your thoughts on this...?

Same! I had completely forgotten that my brother and I would do these as a kid 40+ yrs ago, including the rounding and coloring. Talk about a flood of lost memories that just returned as I watched this. How tf did we know how to do this intrinsically as kids, and then to lose it altogether! Maybe now it will help w my physical pain levels.

This is an excellent video! I watched a couple of other videos on Neurographic drawing, but they were so “lightweight” or superficial on the mental and emotional connections while doing the work whereas this one is so much more in-depth on those levels. I’m going to really enjoy doing this technique, and look forward to seeing some health benefits. I would love to see a follow-up video where she goes into next steps, like coloring techniques and how various methods might work to re-wire the brain. Thank you for this.

I agree that other videos I have watched have not fully explained how to draw the lines and what they mean in the process. I have watched crafters on KZbin and they are more concerned with creating art rather than healing themselves. I look forward to the follow-up video where Mary instructs on a focus area of our piece. I found it very interesting to avoid just coloring one section. I'd like to hear more about that.

A reminder to whoever is watching this that you did not cause your illnesses or your pain. I know how hard you are trying, and that you wouldn't choose to feel like this. "Manifestation" is absolute rubbish. This person's interpretation of this method is clearly not evidence based at all. I was trying to find an explanation of this practice that actually explains the science behind it, but unfortunately this is not it. Mindfulness helps some people, and that's what this is. If it helps, that's wonderful, but please remember that chronic and mental illnesses are not your fault. We still don't fully understand the human body and the many conditions people suffer. We need science and thorough reputable research. Not being told we're not trying hard enough, and not manifesting the right things.
@AskYourPainDoc

You are absolutely right and you mentioned a point that chronic pain and chronic illness is something very complicated, it’s a very multifaceted issue and in order to help someone or heal someone you need to address it and attack it from multiple angles. One of the things that I try to explore in my channel is to show that they are multiple type of treatments available that may not be the right treatment for each patient
@mary_amini
@mary_amini Жыл бұрын
Hi Anne I think you misunderstood my practice of this art. You are absolutely right, contracted pain and trauma is not your fault, but no one has the power to heal you but you. This practice allows you to be present with your emotional pain and express it without using words. this allows for a somatic release of the body as well as acknowledgement of the negative emotions. Continued practice can help with healing deep emotional trauma, which can in some cases manifest in physical ways as well. I would be happy to share scientific articles being published about Neurographica specifically, but you are right I don't have scientific research on my method. I only have the anecdotal evidence of the students I have worked with. I did not suggest trying hard to push you pain away, I am suggesting a pleasant and accessible way to deal with dark emotional feelings. I hope this clarifies things

I think this woman is actually hurting many patients in her general thoughts that srt therapy can treat pain. It imo could help a patient cope with their pain but it is not going to actually do much for their actual pain for patients with severe chronic pain. I hate when they bring up fibromyalgia bc they do NOT understand it. Just because they are to stupid to do the research to see the clinical findings and very likely biomarkers that they believe they found ( they are still in the process of testing more double blind patients DNA to make sure these are good markers for everyone before they say definitely yes these are the markers). That is like saying you feel the wind but it is made up in your mind and you need to stop imagining feeling the wind. Many doctors use fms as a dx when they just don't know what exactly is going on. I feel like to say to these patients it is in your mind is exceedingly terrible and does REAL HARM as many many severe chronic pain patients esp fms patients end up committing suicide or at minimum considering it when it is something t g eyvwould never ever wish to do but they feel like they have nobother choice because their pain is completely unmanaged at any quality of daily life and people like this lady and drs are saying it is in your head. I support art therapy but only in conjunction with proper effective medical pain management. We don't let our animals suffer so we shouldn't let humans suffer. People including doctors often think that we know everything and that we are so advanced etc. Well to be honest we are likely not as advanced as everyone may think. We still have to change treatments because we find out the treatments we even are still doing in many countries are actually having terrible consequences. Example some joint implants were thought to be the the very best but later we have found they are poisoning patients with cobalt. We must be open to the thought that we might need to consider other techniques and our current treatments might be wrong.

In this channel we discuss about multi modal treatment from traditional to alternate methods, I believe everyone is different and there is not one way to treat each condition
@mary_amini
@mary_amini 2 жыл бұрын
My dear friend, I don't believe I made the assertion you suggest I did. I did not ever suggest replacing pain management medication with art therapy as a blanket treatment. That would, as you put it, be irresponsible. However, coming from a medical background, I understand that at the end of the day all that we experience is our own nervous system, which only has two modes. Chronic stress and fear, will create physical manifestations in the body such as autoimmune diseases and pain manifestation that seems to have no physical origin. Many of our doctors have just prescribed pharmaceutical solutions that have done more harm than good. Chronic illnesses resulting in pain such as fibromyalgia have both mental and physical roots and both need to be addressed for the patient to experience healing and not just temporary pain alleviation at any cost. I never suggested that neuroart is a cure for fibromyalgia, I said I have had clients with the disorder that have reported improvement from the use of this method. I personally believe in a holistic approach in life and in medicine. I hope this clarifies my position for you a bit more. My utter stupidity notwithstanding.

In other vids the lovely Mary Amini describes that what she does is based on a stricter form called 'neurographica' . She calls what she does here Neurographic Art to differentiate from that, Just be aware that there's also a lot of doodly/freeform 'Neurographic Art' vids around on KZbin, which don't have the structure, psychological intention and results of either what Mary is doing, or the original Neurographica.. Don't confuse it with eg doodly vids that say 'colour each space inside the lines a different colour'' or 'put a bunch of polka dots or stripes in' without rounding.. etc.. and enjoy whatever you do :)

It feels like stretching to say someone 'invented' this technique... I always feel like the terminology should be 'popularized' or maybe even 'discovered', but tons of people have used this very activity for decades with the same general purpose in mind. it's nice to know there's terminology around it now tho--thank you for an enlightening video. :) My childhood journals/notebooks are full of this stuff, much of it penmanship/letter-based embellishments, but after a TBI in 2017 they took a radically deeper turn. I appreciate having a vocabulary for talking about it.

i know what you are refering to but were you also rounding and setting intentions? i think that is what they are referring to. it is the rules that differentiate it- rules that speak the to brain in a certain way that can actually be captured on brain imaging. EDIT- I've actually looked into it- this video really does not even give the basics- it's far more indepth.

The very least it can do is allow you to express your frustration at being in pain all the time and alleviating your emotional state so you have more capacity for physical pain tolerance. Pain doesn't just disturb our body, it also disturbs your mind. By being able to express your internal turmoil and releasing in and in the process creating something beautiful out of it, you will have more of an easy time and more capacity for physical tolerance of pain. It can also be quite entertaining. 😁

Someone told me about this to help with chronic pain, or PTSD or anxiety. I have osteoarthritis in my back knees and hands. PTSD from combat and really bad anxiety and depression. Thought this might help. I think it would just piss me off. No offense if it helps you. Do what helps. This just not for me I think. Just too chaotic and nothing looks right.
@mary_amini
@mary_amini 9 ай бұрын
That might be part of your challenge. The fact that things need to "look right" suggests an attachment to control that can be a coping mechanism. Perfectionism is one of the patterns we have been taught in our society that is based on external control. The world isn't from the outside in and in this world there is more chaos than order. Nothing is perfect in the universe, so attachment to perfectionism is one of the ways we create imbalance in our mental states that lead to dis-ease in the mind and body. I don't know if you ever tried this process and I am not trying to persuade you to do it. Having said that, what you expressed is called resistance to rounding, or resistance in general. Your ego identity is recognizing that this is a pattern interrupter and feels it will not be in control and therefore rejects it. In our groups, people with these expressions actually would benefit greatly from this practice. Wishing you well always

This is bizzare. A few yearago I began to have chronic pain. Over time I began doodling shapes, patterns, etc on scrap paper. I then began to draw on graph paper. I draw everyday, a few hours a day. I was curious as to why I suddenly began to draw for hours at a time. I get great satisfaction and my pain is lowered. It seems as if my subconscious mind lead me to this. It has almost become an addiction. I do not think I could go a day without drawing. Some of them are pretty good. I draw geometric shapes, mandalas, surreal psychadelic worlds. It works! It does not take all my pain away, but it definitely diverts my pain a few hours a day. My body needed an outlet and found one. Amazing. Thank You for explaining.

Pain tolerance is not just a physical matter. It also affects your mind and your mood. If you find a way to release the way you feel about being in pain it increases you ability to tolerate physical pain as your emotional cup is not constantly full.

That was a intriguing video and explanation of how neurographic drawing can help people. Ms. Amini kept using the term algorithm. I understand the concept as it applies to math, but not how it pertains to this type of drawing. Would you please give us a definition? Thank you.

Hi Ruth, When using Neurographic art, we use a certain number of steps in specific sequences, much like you would for a mathematical equation. So the recipe to each piece of art, the intention behind it and the way it is communication on paper is called the algorithm. However unlike the mathematical algorithm, although everyone follows the same steps, no two people ever get the same expression. Let me know if this makes it a bit more clear for you

💥This may be why people feel calm and comfortable when living in a round house with no square rooms at all. - I've seen people plan to build their homes this way.... most likely without realizing the depth of why they chose a round home in the first place. Makes complete sense! I loved this video!! THANKYOU ♥ I learned a lot.
