I really appreciate this series you have put together Antje. Thank you. I am sorry to have missed your recent Basics course. If it was starting now I'd be fully signed up because I'm very much appreciating your approach. 🙂My question is about the applied meaning to each of the drawings and the shapes. Does this bring forward an intellectual or thinking approach? I am strongly attracted to allowing the drawings to be guided by those less cognitive states - those that would like to be brought forward to be seen and to assist healing and wholeness. I'd like to know more about that and would appreciate your comments so will keep watching this series and your other videos! Thank you again. I feel inspired to draw every day at the moment! 🙏

thank you so much for your comment. I amvery happy that this speaks to you. Concerning your question, there are many answers. Meaning making is a very individual process and while this can absolutely bring forward insights through the intellectual or thinking mind, in my perspective there are even more possibilities beyond that. We can assign meanings consciously, but then there might be certain elements that just feel like they are significant in a more subconscious or intuitive way, and sometimes we cannot grasp that with our intellectual mind immediately, yet we can draw them and work with them in a visual way. This can be very helpful, because it can show aspects that are beyond our thoughts and intellectual understanding, and can open up spaces for even deeper inquiries. I like to describe it as a way to train our intuition, where we learn to listen to and trust those intuitive hunches as well as including our emotional states and body sensations into the process of creating and understanding. I hope this makes sense. As I said, it is a very individual process and sometimes hard to put into words. Also I wanted to share that the course is available as a self-paced course with recordings, so you can absolutely join whenever you are ready to dive deeper: neuroartproject.net/basics-course It also includes access to a private Facebook community as well as private feedback with me.

I thought lines are drawn first, corners filled in, then shapes are added.

No, this is not a general rule. The order of steps can absolutely vary. This is one of the things you can learn in the different Algorithm classes (there are 9 total at the moment), and in Algorithm 2, for example, we place shapes first and then add lines. The Algorithm you are referring to is called "Algorithm for Clarifying Intentions" (where we, draw lines, then round, then add shapes and colors etc.) and it is part of the Basics class. This is one of the simpler drawing processes that we start with.
