What are neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses? Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses, or NCLs, also sometimes referred to as Batten disease, are a group of rare inherited neurodegenerative disorders that mainly affect children and adolescents and are one of the main causes of childhood dementia.
