Hi Tom & Julie, the name of the spoon thing for pouring molten metal is called a ladle. That mine was crazy, it seemed to be more an up n down affair rather than drift mining that we usually see, it's what works I guess. Thank you for sharing, much love to you both & Pickles. xx ❤
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, yes that is a ladle, but I was wondering if there was a special name the blacksmith or whomever used it called it. I found out after we explored this mine that the vein is nearly vertical, so maybe it's easier not to make long drifts. This one is pretty wild with pockets and small drifts going all over. Thanks for the nice comment and we three send our love. ❤😽⛏️

Hello Julie and Tom. Looks like this mine was worked a different times. Seeing that plastic piping in the mine. And the plastic Prestone container. Looks like they dug deep but since the drifts didn't go far I guess they didn't find much. Seeing that old 1937 newspaper was pretty cool. Very nice video.
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
Hello Stephen, yes it was definitely worked at different times. It was first worked in 1922 so the plastic pipe is obviously not that old. Plastic pipe was not common until the 1970's. I believe that it produced a fair amount of valuable ore. The reason I say that is because the upper shaft I showed is almost 800 feet deep on a vein that is mostly vertical. I don't think they dug long horizontal drifts rather they followed the vein straight down. Thanks for watching and commenting, it's always good to hear from you!

Interesting little mine, though to my eye I would guess it never produced a whole lot. 31:25 The newspaper had an ad for Hawaiian Gardens in San Jose, CA. Where I live now years ago used to be called Hawaiian Gardens. I live behind what used to be a restaurant and bar, with a nice little stage where musicians would play. And the main boat launch was here where fishermen would launch their boats to fish in the river. A local celebrity named Morris Taylor got his start playing country music here. Then he had a country western music variety television show called The Morris Taylor Show that was one of the longest running TV shows in history. It started in 1956 and ran till 1995, then was shown in reruns till 1997, and in repeats till 2015, so was on the air for 59 years. My grandpa took me to a live taping of the television show some time around the late 1950s or early 1960s. Morris Taylor passed away January 2018 at the age of 98, and was honored on the floor of the United States House of Representatives by U.S. Congressman Doug LaMalfa.

It sounds like the ad in the newspaper is the same place as where you live. If I remember correctly the same owners had two places one in SF and the other in San Jose. Hey Justin, you've changed your channel name. Have you been out with Frank lately. I haven't heard from him for a month or two. Thanks for watching the video. You know how much all the rappelling gear adds to the complexity of an explore. We weren't sure what shape the ladders were in so roped up. They were good until that spot near the bottom where there must have been some water that rotted a section away. The slings girth hitched together worked fine. I'll have to get over to your channel to see what you've been up to.

I enjoy all your videos as you know. This one was no exception. Lotsa neat stuff. I saw another channel where this guy found a metal ladle, similar to yours, at a garage sale in SoCal. I don’t think they were exclusive to mine operations, I may be wrong. That mine was a hit and miss for rich ore. The plastic pipe was an indicator of modern mining. I wonder if there’s a current claim filed. Thanks, T&J! Always worthwhile..
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the claim status, Ralph. We didn't see any sign of recent work being done. The plastic is obviously not terribly old, but it could have been there for 20 or thirty years. Who knows? Another good video. I have always wondered if you ever run into any wild animals in these mines I know there are rat's & mice but how about larger like Bobcat's or Bear anything large
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
The most common animals that we actually see in mines are rats, bats and rabbits. We see sign of many other creatures like snakes (sheds or dead ones) mine cats, lions, foxes and burros. Yes, burros love going into mines and sometimes hundreds of feet in. Thanks for the comment, Donald!

No river, no creek, no trees. I would not want to live in such a place. Probably hundreds of people lost their health there. I think that everyone who came there to work thought only of one thing, to go back home as soon as possible. Thank you for the detailed video👍

Originally growing up in Minnesota myself I understand what you are saying. However, the desert has a certain allure and spectacular beauty in a subtle way. It takes spending some time there to understand. It's not for everyone but those who love the desert will totally understand. By the way we spend our summers in Central Oregon where there is an abundance of rivers, lakes, trees and glacier covered mountains. The ocean is a 3 hour drive as well. We get the best of both climates. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

Wow! You guys do plenty of roping! That shaft got a bit sketchy at the bottom. Cool mine. Did it appear there was much backfilling? Thanks for bringing us along!
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
The ladders got a little rotten there at one point. There did seem to be a lot of areas that were backfilled. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it, William!

PVC pipe didn’t become common until the late 50’s. Extrusion technology blossomed in the 60’s.

Typically how long would it take for miner’s to dig 150ft down?
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
Good question that I'm guessing would depend on several variables. The type of material, number of workers, type of equipment being used, the need for timbering to support the shaft etc. My guess is that it would be in the 10 feet per day range as an average. Thanks for the interesting comment, Larry! Anyone care to chime in?

Hi Tom and Julie. Just a note to let you know that KZbin has been taking people's Playlists and unsubscribing them . I have had it happen to about 90% of the people's sights that I watch all of a sudden vanish from my watch list including yours. Thought I should let you know.
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up, William. I have heard about this same thing happening a couple times and even sent KZbin a notice about it. I have to believe it's a computer glitch of some sort because there is no advantage to KZbin, that I can think of, by unsubscribing people from channels that they watch. They want you to watch more not less. I hope they get it straightened out.

How come you guys didn't collect any of your findings for a mining Museum. Others would enjoy what you found at those mines.
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
You are not supposed to remove artifacts from mines. Besides, there are a lot of museums already out there. Thanks for the question, Michael.

You should take cool stuff out of the mine and put it in the cabin?

We don't generally remove things from the mines. Anything in the cabin would surely disappear. Thanks for the comments, Donald!👍😁

@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting, Glen. It's hard to tell from the plastic when this was last worked. Plastic pipe has been commonly used since the 1970's although as you said this was probably worked more recently than that. I should have looked more closely at the box of band clamps, or maybe the pipe itself, for a possible date on them.

I always wonder where did they get the money to buy all this stuff?
@TomandJulieMineExploring2 жыл бұрын
A lot of times stock was sold to raise capital. Many were scammed out of their investments, too. The mine owners would artificially drive the stock price up by salting the mine and then sell their shares.
