hey, no one ever reached their goals by staying in their comfort zone!! our parents grew up in an age when going to college/getting a solid job was the only possible pathway, and the majority of them still believe in that. nowadays, there are so many more pathways, especially with the internet/social media. please don't sacrifice your dreams just to make them happy. it will all work out, just take it a day at a time.

liz c I think you've been given a false illusion... its incredibly difficult to find a job right now and even more so without a degree. Before, college was more of a choice where as now its the only choice most normal people have. Of course there are plenty of successful people with no degree but they are either a) very lucky b) have insane work ethic/drive/passion which if you're honest with yourself, most people dont actually posses this quality c) you come from money/ your family has connections with 'important people'.

mybestfriendandi i completely get what you're saying! didn't mean to make it seem like it was "simple" to get a job without a degree, because it definitely isn't. that being said though, meg already has a job (youtube, brand deals, other jobs given through youtube, etc), so giving that up and wasting money on a degree she has no interest in wouldn't make sense right now! education is definitely very important and the most logical way to success, but seeing where she's at right now it wouldn't make sense at this time in her life :)

Hey meg I completely understand what you mean. A lot of times our parents are learning along the way with us, but its their protective instinct to want to help us be the best that we can be. They also dont realize how hurtful they may come across sometimes when they dont show that they love us no matter what we do. They only know succes through the common route which is going to college, getting a degree etc. but obviously thats not the only way to success. In my opinion, school isnt always about being interested, its about getting prepared. A lot of the writing and speaking things you learn are not necessarily "interesting" but theyre preparing you for the moments in your life like when you write a book or speak at a womens conference, where you will need those skills. School can also connect you with people who can help you further your career and open your mind to new ideas and options for yourself. I'm just saying maybe before shutting that door completely you should give it a try. College is not like highschool. You dont have to know what you want to major in or "do" right away. A lot of professors are really cool too and can serve as mentors for you. Just saying that you have a valid point about not necessarily "needing" school, but dont be so pride driven and into that until you give it a try. You cant say that something doesnt work or isnt right for you if youve never really experienced it.

But they don't understand that college is an option, not another stepping stone in life. Just because you don't go to college does not mean that you are a failure. I understand where you are coming from, college really is not for everyone. But I also see where your parents are coming from. Maybe the right major could help you achieve your goals and your dream. It's always worth a try. I know you are not wanting a college experience with football games and greek life, but that can all be avoided with the people you surround yourself with. I go to a Big 10 school where partying and greek life is very popular, but I don't experience it because of who I choose to hang out with and where I live. There are so many options. To me, KZbin seems very temporary as a career and that everyone should have a back up plan, but I understand planning that far ahead doesn't work for many people (myself included). You are so lucky to live independently in LA at such a young age and be able to afford it, you should look into everything the city has to offer. College does not guarantee a job, I know, but I feel that constantly learning is so important. You do you, but know that there are many options to explore.

Hey Meghan, i just wanted to give you a little bit of advice on the whole school thing. First and foremost, if school is not for you, do not force yourself to do something that will make you unhappy. I know it is easier said than done, because there are many other factors that are effecting that decision, but your own happiness is a priority and should come before anything else (which I'm sure you know, and I hope your parents know). Secondly, though you aren't in school, you're doing a kick-ass job at doing what you love and benefitting from it. You have a career that you love and will support your needs at such a young age, which is practically unheard of! You are a smart business woman with a strong work ethic who knows how to get things done, and are an inspiration to girls and boys across the world. I know that the pressure from your parents is extremely daunting (though the pressure is coming out of their love and concern for your well being), but at the end of the day, you should not only do what you know will benefit you and your well being, but what will make you happy, because life is way to short to be anything but happy. I don't know long the conversation with your parents was, but be sure to explain exactly how you feel (no holding back) to them, possibly asking them not to interrupt halfway through one of your thoughts, so they can give you their undivided attention and really listen to what you have to say. I know you might feel like shit right now, but just keep your mind clear, be as focused on your goals as ever, and keep a positive attitude, and I promise everything will fall into place. Girl, a plan is not necessary. If you have a job that pays your lifestyle then live it. Plans change constantly. I would be so grateful to have such an open life like you. School is not necessary for everyone. I graduated because it was something I wanted to accomplish for myself. I will never forget my freshman English teacher telling us if we are here to please our parents it is a waste of time and money because a degree doesn't guarantee shit anymore. Goals are different for everyone. If you're doing what you love then you've already got more in life than most.

Here's my opinion. You're 19 years old. You do not need to have your whole life planned out right now. Some parents and part of society make it seem like the only way you can really succeed is by going to college and getting a degree. And that's not the case all of the time. There are many people who have never been to college and are super successful, and in some cases more successful than some people who went to college. You can't always do something just to please someone else, especially if it won't make you happy. When we come to the age where we can start making decisions for ourselves, we can't always do what our parents tell us. Yes we can listen to their advice but that doesn't mean we have to do it. We all only have one life to live and if you're living your life to just please other people all the time, you will never be fully satisfied. You have to do you and your parents may not agree, but they will have to accept it. And from what I've seen, it seems like you've been doing pretty well with everything. So just do what makes you happy and your parents will understand. I hope everything works out darling.

Im the only one in my family who has a creative mind and crazy dreams in my family and with a dad who was a highschool teacher he thinks the only route is college then work in an office.. On top of that my brother just graduated and got into an amazing college so the pressure on me is insane.. Talk about the same situation!!! I moved to LA a year ago when I was 18 from a tiny town in Illinois and I still have no idea what I want. I dont want to go to school its not for me right now at all. I just tell myself school will always be there if I decide that. Im the baby of 2 older siblings who went to college and did all that shin dig. I still get random "whats your plan" calls and I end up in tears everytime. Im currently just working on making me happy. I struggle with severe anxiety so everyday is a struggle for me. Getting out to go hiking or the beach or on a walk is what im doing right now. I have a job and pay for most of my own things. My parents are slowly understanding that. Omg! I totally understand you!!! I am also 18 ad graduated this year and I just don't want to study but I have four siblings and my two older sisters are super smart and doing really good with their studies and everything and I just don't want to go to uni and trust me I cried for months because I had to apply for courses and I just applied for sooo many things but of I'm honest I'm not gonna be happy I wanted to take a year off and just breathe ..everything is so stressed and none of my friends understand my situation because they are allowed to do everything they want and I still get picked up at 12 o'clock from a party :o I know they care but I need more space for me I would love to live like you xD but my parents think I'm not a good example for my younger siblings and that I'm messing up my future and all that shit :( plus my parents are super strict Indians which makes everything even more worse -.- I seriously need a friend like you who understands me!!

I don't think you should be so against going to college or even taking classes. You should perhaps take some classes about design or something if that's what you want to do! However, you do have an income much higher than most 18 year olds and are supporting yourself and if youtube can support you then you should continue it but keep it mind youtube might not last forever. your parents don't treat lindsey and your brother like this because they have or are in route to getting some kind of degree. i'm sorry but you seriously can't really do anything substantial in present day occupations without some sort of educational degree. times have changed, and the world and work aspect are EXTREMELY competitive now. for competitive occupations out there, you best believe the people wanting that same job that you do have degrees, and with you not having one at all, you'll easily be snuffed out due to competition. honestly your parents are right, I know you say you don't have an interest in going to school but frankly it's probably in your best interest to do so. meg, you are not a failure because you don't think college is right for you! from what you've talked about with your future, with the whole writing positivity books and doing motivational speaking tours and such, it doesn't really seem like a thing school could help you with. unless you REALLY find a major YOU want to do, don't waste your time. you're making progress at your own speed and just remember everything eventually does fall into place, like you not its not a next day thing. everything happens for a reason and everything that's supposed to happen in your life will. it's hard to let parents see that sometimes but they will understand hopefully if you let them know that you are happy with your progress and you tell them your distant goals. you've got this! i love you

fight for what you want in life, even if its where you want to live or what you do with your life. I've gone through it before, i had just moved citys and hated my new school and hardly went bc of my anxiety, i had to beg my parents for months to even get their attention that i wasnt happy where i was. in the end i changed schools, made new friends, got amazing grades, and was actually happy with my life. you do you girl. love you

I know exactly how you feel. I'm going to college but I don't follow a very traditional way of living or thinking, and sometimes it's so frustrating feeling like your parents don't understand you and like they would prefer for you to do something different when you're so sure of what you want out of your life yourself. But hey, you have to do what makes you happy, and everything always works out in the end. You're doing something that most people (including myself) could only dream of doing with their lives. Anyone can go to college if they have the money. Not everyone can build a following and start a movement with positivity and love and inspiration like you do. Please continue to do what you do because you're making such a big mark on so many other people, and I think that's a bigger deal at the end of the day than going to college. You are so awesome!

Awwww meg I know they are your parents but do what u makes you happy don't do something that is gonna make your parents happy cause at the end of the day they aren't the ones living that life and I think that when they ask u about your future and plan continue to explain it and let them know this is what makes u happy
