Google makes it very difficult to be a fan of its devices, and it makes it even harder to understand what the strategy is at any given time. There are plenty of good reasons to buy Pixels, but you really have to put the blinders on and not try to make sense out of anything Google does. Just buy and enjoy for as long as you can.

Most people now are trying to hold on to what they've got, to save some money and use a product how they are supposed to, no need for switching every year! And it's hard, because the marketing and hype makes it more difficult, it feels like an addiction! Believe me, I know....🙃 (My opinion😏)

Although there are naysayers and people who second-guess any product they pick, I recommend buying what you want and enjoying it. Don't let others' opinions sway your decision. I love my Pixel phone and haven't experienced the problems others have mentioned. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky few, but I haven't had any issues. Apple and Samsung devices also have their share of complaints. People tend to complain about their purchases online, and then they buy the same product again and complain about it again, creating a vicious cycle. So, enjoy your purchase and choose what suits you best.

Oh sure, this isn't a knock on the devices themselves. It's more a knock on Google for marketing them and organizing them so poorly.

@StevealiciousTech Fair enough with your response ... But it seems that Google's products are often subjected to more scrutiny than those of other companies. When Google does something good, it often goes unnoticed, but when it does something wrong, it becomes exaggerated. This seems unfair. I'm curious to know when Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi will receive the same level of scrutiny that Google does. It seems that Google always takes the brunt of the criticism, perhaps due to its immense popularity and the fact that some people seem to have a negative opinion of the company and its products.

Great freaking point, these tech snobs are working overtime trying to sway away from the Pixel phone. Honestly, who cares about marketing? I don't, just give an awesome software experience, helpful AI features, a top-notch camera system along with regular security and software updates with the latest quality-of-life features and I'm good.

I believe that some individuals harbor a desire to prevent Google and its products from achieving parity with Apple and its devices. They are aware that Google produces high-quality products and software, and they feel compelled to discredit the company and its offerings. However, I do not subscribe to this perspective. I am a Google supporter and appreciate the Pixel phone experience. Unfortunately, many people are reluctant to give Google its due credit, regardless of the reason.😂😂

Hitting it right on the head as usual, Steve! Is it any wonder why the average consumer has some serious doubts about Pixel going forward? So many dubious decisions! And a recent survey of 10,000 US smartphone users confirms it. Most Pixel owners (57%) want to switch to another brand; only 1 in 4 (a dismal 25%) plan on staying loyal. Apple and Samsung both have loyalty rates at 1 in 2 (50%) -- twice as many as Google. And you would think Google would have it together on the AI front. Nope. Just go look up vids comparing ChatGPT 4o to Gemini 1.5 Pro. Gemini is a complete mess, and consistently across the board giving worse results than ChatGPT. How is that possible? I don't know what Google is doing well at this point. Why does it matter if Samsung or TSMC makes the Tensor? I thought the whole point of creating the Tensor was to more tightly couple the hardware to the software, so that certain stacks could be prioritized. After three generations now, I fail to see how creating the Tensor has given Google any advantage. The Tensor is not more performant, not more power efficient, not more AI effective. What is the point? If Google wanted to create a brand with Tensor, it's not bearing much fruit at this point. I fear at this point Google needs to go back to the drawing board. But who's interested in yet another reboot? Maybe software should be their sole focus.

Yeah, it does seem like they are all over the board. I do agree with the decision to move to its own silicon, as we've seen with Apple, when done right, it's amazing...they just really haven't figured out how to do it right yet haha.

I've tried the regular and pro 8, and its like they're good at marketing but aside from the AI features (which you can get a few elsewhere) they don't do anything another phone already does better. overheating, frame rate chugs, terrible battery on the regular pixel, dumb decisions with customization just completely put me off. Going with an S24+. Also, I was unreasonably angry that there was no weather app. What the fuck.

I picked mine up for under $200 with a trade-in but I saw it regularly go on sale for $249 to 299. For that price that's a lot of phone and there's not really anything around it unless you're talking about a really old flagship that could compete with that. The 8a will go on sale but not for a lot since they're probably going to be getting rid of it this year which is a shame since it's been a great series of cheap phones with flagship features

The reason you hear these types of comments about Pixels is because Google got the reputation they deserved. They make great phones and Pixels have the potential to be the iPhone of Androids. But they take shortcuts instead of fixing the numerous bugs and other software issues. And yes, I know every phone manufacturer has its own problems with bugs or random glitches. But Google Pixels seem to have consistent and numerous issues that they shouldn’t be making almost 3 generations after Tensor debuted. They should have taken it slow to create Tensor and gotten it perfected and used Snapdragon chips until Tensor was truly ready. Instead, the release the Pixel 6 lineup with Tensor immediately and gave us a glorified beta phone work in progress. Google continues to make amateur software mistakes despite owning Android and being a software company! That’s ridiculous. I hope they can fix their problems with Pixels because a Pixel without issues could be much better than any phone on the market.

Steve - this is the funniest, most factual commentary about Google's product strategy I've seen - laughing randomly throughout the video. Been a Moto person for many years and looking at an upgrade for my Moto G Power (2020). Been with Google Fi since '18. Considering the Moto Stylus 5G and the Pixel 8a. Google Fi throws huge discounts on random models and what are the chances the discounts are on the Stylus 5G and 8a right now? $109.99 for the Moto and $299 for the 8a. I'm all for competition and like you, I hope Google doesn't throw in the towel...

Google got too big for their own good. The Pixel used to be the *affordable* budget compact phone with great camera software and good battery life, but have since abandoned what made them appealing in the first place. Google doing Google things with poor communication as always. The only selling points for a Pixel right now are just stock Android and clean Fitbit intergation with the Pixel watches. Other Android brands have caught up on almost all fronts and or have their own alternatives which I'd argue are better, but to each their own. I love my Pixel Fold and original Pixel Watch , but the bugs and overheating ruin the experience. Pixel used to be the Android equivalent of Apple of where you get a Pixel because it just works. It was functional and practical, but now its unreliable. Since Google rebranded the Pixel line-up it has been a mess for the consumer, but not the company. The Pixel 6 series had terrible reception issues. The Pixel 7 series as well as the Fold/Tablet had hardware failures, awful overheating problems, and poor battery life. Things look better for the Pixel 8 series now but limiting the base 8 to mare the 8 Pro better was a bad more. This is why so many jump ship and I can't blame them.

Pixels are not bad phones, but they definitely have bad chips. My pixel 7 pro lags on monopoly go, lol. That game is not even graphic intensive. It lags throughout the OS navigation. I hope TSMC is taking over because Samsung is just not good at making chips. I sold my s24 ultra and went back to my 7 pro because that phone's camera was horrible and the screen was grainy. Here’s my issue with people saying don’t buy a Pixel. These same people will give brands like Apple and Samsung a pass for the same kinds of issues. Poor battery life, green lines in the screen, overheating, etc. I’m the first to say Google has room for improvement. But I shake my head at the tech community for making excuses when Apple and Samsung do the exact same things as Google. My guess would be blind brand loyalty. I do get waiting for the TSMC Tensor chip, but I also think even right now the Pixel 6-8 series are great phones. Do they have issues? Yes, but guess what? So does every other brand. You keep saying other brands have issues, yet it's not on the scale of Google's problems. Overheating, cellular connection issues, the green light bullshit, and a few other things I hear of, or have personally experienced myself. I use both an iPhone 15 Pro Max and Google Pixel 8 Pro. I've had this setup for a few years now, and it's a different world far as quality control goes. Yes Apple had/has some issues with software but they usually get resolved much quicker than what Google does. I do have to say the Pixel 8 Pro has been a much better experience than my 6 Pro was. Although the overheating still exist. Just not as bad as the 6 and 7 series was. Truth is truth and Google needs to fix this ASAP. I'd love to make my pixel 8 Pro my main device but the chip isn't ready for that life yet.

The wildly divided opinions about Google's Pixel phones is somewhat similar to people's experience with Microsoft Surface computers. People say when Surface is good, it's really good, but when it's bad it's REALLY bad. The difference is Surface's problems tend to be experienced by every user and mitigated by whatever convenience or use case the owner has for owning one. It evens out. Pixels on the other hand have major quality control issues. Some people get near-perfect devices. A solid, hands-on example you can see on KZbin of it going really bad is Dayo Aworunse's P7P videos. Spot on analysis. Also, there’s an insidious, bad feeling that ur not getting a refined, finished product. U never feel that way with Apple or Samsung. Google needs to recruit Apple management n Apple needs to recruit Android dev features. Idk, just ranting.

The only reason why I stay with the pixel is because I am just so used to its UI. But their inconsistencies are maddening. I hate the fact that they're going to change the form factor for the pixel fold. This is vintage Google, instead of improving making the changes that we all want.... They're going to make the change that no one requested. The form factor is one of the best things about the current fold. Why are they changing that to look more like the OnePlus open??? Just absurd!

What phone does Apple release mid year that has the same power as its flagship lineup while at the same time reducing the price of the flagship iPhone to within 50 bucks or less? Nice try.

I'm so confused! The 8 is on sale for less than the 8a! But do I still want to spend just over $500us for a phone? Or the 7a for $412 or a 6 whatever for less. There seems to be only marginal improvement in each iteration. Not a power user just want a great camera. Had great use from my 3a but now I'm even thinking of old (gag) iPhones?!

@@thundergato84Haaaaa 😂 your comment exemplifies Google's exact problem. Why do we have to keep waiting for Tensor to "get good"? Google went a separate way with creating the Tensor, so the advantages should have been clear & evident from the beginning. After three generations now, what incentives has Google created for using the Tensor? But we are to be assured the Tensor brand will "get good" when TSMC starts fabbing them. Why exactly?

I have a galaxy A55 which doesn't over heat and it's an exynos! It perfeoms much more consistently than the Tensor 2 I had in my previous 7a which thermal to throttled running a web browser and nearly ended up shutting down doing a video call. Tensor shouldn't over heat. It is poor optimisation. There's a lot more power in it than the exynos 1480 but the 1480 performs better in the real world because it stays at close to 100 percent.

Releasing a mid tier phone several months after the premium is still silly to most of us here. Also, its not like its released 2-3 months after the "premium" device but about 7 months. We have to remember though, people watching youtube videos on phones are a very small percentage of the consumer base. The true average person will just see that its a new google phone and buy it without knowing its not a "premium" device. Which is why google got away with doing this method for years.

Well to be honest they do the same thing with the iPhone. I remember they were saying don't buy the 14 wait for the 15 because it's supposed to have some type of zoom camera which it did but wasn't that special
@StevealiciousTech

You always get that, but that's a year in advance, and the issue isn't created by Apple. Google creates the environment where people should wait, or just wait for a sale or whatever by releasing devices on top of each other and not having a clear pricing strategy, is more the issue.

It's 2024. I just bought a new Pixel 7 Pro for $400. This is an upgrade from my Pixel 2 XL, which still works fine. Honestly I just needed a a better camera and more memory, because my old phone still functions fine. Splurging twice as much for an 8 Pro didn't make sense, especially when they'll pop out the 9 series a bit. I'll keep this for another 2-3 years, till there are another set of major changes, and then I will find another great deal :)

I bought a pixel 3 in 2018 and still doing great the back looks like shit can almost see trough it. Definitely don’t need a Dbrand teardown skin. Still pretty snappy , always liked the camera. I mean a 6 year old phone still performing, okay I change the battery 30 $. I think my next pixel is going to be the 10th edition , nice round number, but I will probably wait and buy it in 2027.

You will never hear me say don’t buy a certain brand period. Buy what you want! I’ve had many brands and I can find all sorts of issues with any brand and do you know why they are imperfect but even though they had issues I could deal with them. Everyone is different some like different styles or may not like something someone is fine with but I’m not gonna force anyone to feel the same way I do. I’m perfectly fine with both my pixil 8pro and iPhone 15pro are they perfect no but they work perfectly fine for me. I hate when KZbinrs try to force their opinions on others if he is not happy he has the freedom to buy something else it’s his choice and frankly I don’t care if he likes or doesn’t like pixil cause I don’t rely on his opinions to make choices in my life :).

They are making good hardware, but they are selling software. There are still issues with new pixels that are ether being overlooked or juat waiting for better hardware. I loved my 6a. For the price is was an amazing phone. Until it turned into a hot pocket nust doing basic tasks. I live in florida so i know when a device has poor thermals. Besides the iphone 12, the 6a was one of the worst phones ive had in terma of that. Now im sure its gotten a bit better, but still scarred me. Also everyone saying that TSMC is going to change everything need to also remember that they still have to sell it at a certain price point which might mean they might go with an older fabrication. They're more focused on making their AI stuff more efficient on the chip rather than raw performance. The issue with the whole line is that you have no idea what you're going to get year-over-year and at least for the past 4 years they haven't changed a whole lot except for some specific components. I really like the pixel line but it's hard to support them since they're just inconsistent with their overall performance

I used my Pixel 3a for 5 years! Only thing that went was the battery. And understandably so. I now have a Pixel 8 Pro and couldn't be happier. For those of us that use the Pixel lineup, we understand the clean pure Google. No baked in apps or bloat ware. They run flawlessly. The AI is amazing. The cameras are best in class. What are you actually upset about my guy? Every single manufacturer will produce something that has an issue after release. They correct them with updates and make it right. I've never had a single issue with hardware or software for now being a user for 6 years, is really saying something.
