I'm just gonna put this clarification for any newer artists out there, what Kooleen said about brushes is a two way street. No, having her brushes will not make you better, BUT it will help you if you wish to adapt her style, *but even then it might not.* I cant count the number of times I've downloaded brushes of popular artists with art styles I look up to, but they just never worked for me. Eventually I found a brush that resonated with me, and my work is way better than it used to be. The tip is not to go chasing after other artists' brushes with the hope that it will make you better. No problem in trying them out, but don't expect your art will start looking like theirs. Brush doesn't really automatically do anything for you, YOU have to learn how to use it right. Its why even a round brush gets the job done if you know what you're doing. So, no a fancy brush will not make your art better, BUT a brush that YOU personally find comfortable WILL. *tldr- brushes don't make your art magically better, but finding a brush that suites YOU **_will._*

Even with irl "almond" shape eyes it still has structure behind it and the wraps around the eye ball, it's hard to capture that simply by drawing a curved line so it's easy to make it look flat if you're trying to aim for realistic or semi realistic art style

the parallelogram doesn't work for most eye shapes - only upturned eyes, or eyes in which the outer corner is higher than the inner corner. most peoples' eyes are pretty even, in that their outer corner and inner corner aren't really on very different levels. and some people have downturned eyes, which are eyes where the outer corner is lower than the inner corner. however, upturned eyes are what is fashionable right now (think of asian-fishing controversies and the old fox-eye trend), so like any beauty standard, they tend to be the default when drawing art.
@isthiswheretheusernamegoes49153 жыл бұрын
I totally agree. What I find a bit ironic about this video is the fact that at 0:45, the artist showed a reference of an eye even though that eye shape is somewhere between round and oval, despite them claiming at eyes don't come in those shapes. The truth is that all bodies are different and get does get a bit frustrating when someone (or the media) claims that this is the standard or this is the only way that bodies come in. If anyone who does art reads this comment; I suggest doing your own studies. Finding shortcuts in the art world might be useful but sometimes they become habits that become hard to break. And trust me, sometimes you do need to break them.

To new artist, the shape of the eye may differ from how you want your drawing to look. Using the almond shape is actually the appropriate method use purposely for realistic drawings. But in this case where in anime is being drawn, be as creative as you can, try different methods and find the one that suits you. But don't limit yourself like "using the almond shape is wrong" it all depends on how you use it!!!

I actually don’t care what method I use, as long as it looks like an eye, it’s good

obviously this kind of thing depends on artstyle, but this is great for realism. anyway, don't forget that if the eyelids are wide like in a surprized expression or you're trying to make a subject look crazed, etc, do draw the whole circle for the pupil.... accounting for perspective and other factors too of course
@butasimpleidiotwizard3 жыл бұрын
It's not great for realism because this is stylised more like semi realistic Asian art styles, white people's eyes are rarely upturned like this, they aren't a perfect football shape either so that part is good advice but for white people and even a lot of Asians the two corners are level with each other, or can even be slanted the opposite direction so the outer corners point down. The shape mostly varies by changing the two curves and where the highest point of each curve is, like for me my upper eyelid is a smooth curve with the peak in the centre, but my lower eyelid the peak falls to the outside, so my eyes have a slightly downturned appearance, the crease above my eyelid has its peak towards the inside corner as well which adds to the effect. I recommend staring at pictures of eyes and trying to notice where the curves peak because it's really weird once you notice it
@algernon59862 жыл бұрын

Honestly, agreed. Most of these "never do x" or "always do y" comes down to their personal style. If someone has a super chartoony style, this video isn't going to be helpful. However, if you're looking for a tutorial video to improve your art, be specific on what you want. Realism, surrealism, etc... you're going to find widely different advice, sometime contradictory. Though, most professional artists I've seen, agree that it's a good idea to have, at the very least, a base understanding of anatomy and still lifes. But if you don't, that doesn't make your art "not art". So, it's all subjective anyways.

Love your videos and your style. ❤️ For whoever wonders which brush she uses to blend: I couldn't find the exact one, so I tried making one myself using the default CSP brushes. Here's how to achieve a similar one: Select the "gouache" brush (it's in the brushes, watercolour, thick paint menu). Duplicate it. Then change the tip shape to a rectangle. Go to "stroke" and in "gap", select "fixed". Use the slider below and set it to 0.1 This gives you a rectangle brush that blends quite wonderfully. Obviously, you must tweak other settings (like the amount of paint, density, colour stretch etc) to adjust it to your own taste, but this gives you a good base. I hope someone out there finds this useful!

There IS NOT a CORRECT way to do art, do it how you feel it looks better, remember everyone has a different way to see and evaluate art... and if you want to take any art tips that you think would help the way your drawings look like its definetly fine

No need to get upset, no one has to use this style. I will still be doing my eye style but also this style as well because I think I can use it to make adult shape eyes better.

CORRECTION: Never draw eyes this way IF YOU AIM FOR REALISM. Not everyone aims for that. Fr, let people develop their own style. People are gonna draw however they want. Don't tell them what to do and what to not do... There really isn't right or wrong when it comes to drawing. Edit: Just to be clear, this isn't a hate comment or anythin g, just my opinion.

I recommend drawing more drawing realistic so you can know much more of the Anatomy like eyes lips and Organs it can help you And know shapes you can still Do your art Style but it can help you with your Anatomy so you can draw bodies and not need any sketch this is just a recommendation even professional think it will help you.

Helpful! I typically draw eyes like the first way you showed (but with the addition oft the tear duct) since that's what my eyes look like, but this could be a good way to vary eyes between characters.

Everyone has got its own style to draw and can do their way. Unfortunately, there are lots of people that make "cringe" videos only to get likes without making anything else but an edit and there are other people that says there are ways to draw the thing end everything else its wrong. But it isn't like that. Your video didn't help me, but I appreciate it because I bet you spend a lot of time doing it and thanks for showing us an example of what can we do and how to.

Man, there is no "wrong" way to do art. That's the point of it. Don't tell people how to draw, that's why everybody's so hesitant about doing it, they are afraid of doing it wrong. I want everyone to draw freely.
@vickymoreira12603 жыл бұрын
Has long has there is results, but you're right in this case. there are many types of eyes and many that aren't considered "beautiful" for some people but it does give character and emotion. That's why i'm not completely on board with this tip :/ We have to learn each shape and know when to use it.
@pidgedidge2 жыл бұрын
The only mistakes in art are actual mistakes. Things the artist didn’t intend. Saying there are no mistakes in art is misleading at best. Beginners are going to make mistakes. I did, we all did. We didn’t intend for our beginner art to look the way it does but that’s ok. It’s part of the learning process. Don’t lie and say there are no mistakes, explain that mistakes are how you improve so you embrace them and learn from them.

It's pretty much never correct to be dogmatic about anatomy in art, because humans are far more complex and diverse than a few art "rules" and "standards". And this is completely aside from style. But hey, saying "NEVER" or "ONLY" gets views, so it's hard to blame her.
