@@masters.1000 2014 definitely, he double broke Djokovic to take the 4th set and had ALL the momentum. If he'd broken early in the 5th he'd have probably taken it. But Djokovic is a rock. USO 2009 definitely should've been his but he wanted to dick measure with the Delpotro forehand. USO 2015 is the 2015 tourney that he should've won. Any match you generate 23 break points as he did against Djokovic you should win. Absolute throw-job.

@@anonymousLeroyuso 2015 had way too many unforced errors from Roger. If you watched the match, you’d see he didn’t really “deserve” to win. It was actually quite a sloppy match from both. There’s countless other major finals and semi finals he lost that were bigger disappointments. Wimbledon 2008, USO 2009, USO 2010, USO 2011, AO 2009, Wimbledon 2014, Wimbledon 2019 to name a few. All matches that he thought he should’ve won before the match or just completely choked.

The commentator says during one of these points 'this is why people come to watch him play. because he provides something that you've never seen before'. And that is it - that's it in a nutshell. @@yuppyswell, no offense but some of the most brilliant shot makers are not all time legends. Monfils is a player who has shots not even Roger, or any other player could do. The difference with Roger is he’s probably the most elegant “great” player. But to call him the GOAT based on how pretty his shots are rather than the ultimate effectiveness of his shots is silly IMHO. For me he’s a clear #2, behind Novak and ahead of Claydal.

@@Mark-ut5oq I think you're onto it there: No-one combined so much style with so much substance, even though there are players with more of one of those qualities. On the style side, there are quite a few players who at least add something significant to the table: Monfils, Brown, Santoro, Kyrgios, Cuevas, Paire, Shapo, Del Poteo, Dimitrov, De Minaur, Dolgopolov, ... they're all capable of putting your jaw at your feet.

Alcaraz reminds me of early Federer years, both in court IQ and dominance over most opponents, resulting in a seemingly unbeatable aura. Was 2 points away from title in 4th set. 2015: Surprisingly wasted too many break points and missed so many forehands.

If Roger had more mental strength and a slightly steadier backhand, he probably would win at least 26 grand slams. Obviously an all-time legend but his numbers would be nearly untouchable if he just got over the hump. He recently said in an interview that he (essentially) could not figure Novak out mentally. And before Novak, it was Nadal who was in his head mentally and exploited his backhand. It’s quite incredible to think about how many times Fed came out on the losing side of matches he probably shouldn’t have lost. Djoker and Nadal have their fair share of those matches too, but NOTHING like Rog. In terms of winning matches they “should’ve” lost, Roger is last in that department. And he’s also first in the losing matches they “should’ve” won department.
@codegeek-il5fm
@codegeek-il5fm 3 ай бұрын
Nadal Yes but I don't believe Djoker had a mental advantage over Federer overall. Djoker and Federer head to head is not that far off. Until 2014ish, Fed was actually leading their H2H. I honestly believe that Djoker really got much better as he aged and Federer was losing some of his ability in his 30s and Djoker started beating him more consistently after 2014. From 2007-2014, Fed. usually had Djoker's number. People only remember the more recent stuff like Wimbledon finals and some of his US open defeats to Djoker but even when he lost to Djoker, they were always very close matches. Nadal on the other hand brutalized him early on on Clay which stayed in his head. Federer recently admitted to that related to US Open 2008 where he said that the game was already lost when it started as he was just crushed in French open that season by Ndal.
@Mark-ut5oq
@Mark-ut5oq 3 ай бұрын
@@codegeek-il5fm some things are incorrect. Firstly, he lost Wimbledon 2008. Not US open. Secondly: Federer lost the h2h to Djokovic in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013. And their only matchup in a slam in 2010 and 2014 went to Djokovic. After 2010, Djokovic started to turn the tide on the h2h. Federer never “had Djokovic’s number until 2014.” If you said until 2010, that would make sense. But in terms of who was winning more often, after 2010 Djokovic clearly was winning the majority of the time. In fact, from 2010-2014, the GS h2h was 5-2 Djokovic.
