I do a bit of timber work myself. Not a pro, def not as good as you. But for your last tip of bringing two chainsaws: a cheaper option for your viewers would be bringing a second bar and chain. If your bar gets pinched, turn off the saw, safety brake on, and detach the motor from the pinched bar. Your bar will still be in the tree but the motor will be free. Then put the second bar and chain on, and free your bar. Def agree w you for having two, but this will save your viewers a few bucks and having to maintain two saws. Shared w respect, love your videos.

Chainsaw video. Prayers answered 🙏 It's actually incredible that this thing happened to me for the very first time 5 days ago and I was blessed that some stranger was cutting wood right beside me and he helped me release my stuck chainsaw with his. Amazing content, just in time.

ultimately if one end is unsupported, the weight of the log will pull the gap open and theres no issue like in your demo. if both ends are supported and you cut between, the soon to be 2 pieces will fall in on each other closing the gap. another tip you might already know. if your bar does start to pinch, dont stop. try and keep the chain spinning and pull out. this is the only time i know where pulling out is appropriate. ;)

Buy a second saw and use it. Keeping your old saw as a backup. keep repeating this cycle and you end up with a room full of old saws like we have. LOL!

U know I figured out just cutting thru the tree sideways is a game changer. It’s definitely a core work on the obliques, but u don’t have to worry about ur chainsaw getting stuck. Figured this out last season
@franciscomando68223 ай бұрын
Hey man, fan here putting all your advice to practice, somewhat related question: What makes Stihl chainsaws the notoriously preferred ones worldwide? Husqvarna follows and after that it is a salad of brands that you rarely see on professionals hands, I have a Hyundai(you can laugh) but I want a Stihl bad and have no idea why.... thoughts? Firm handshake from Uruguay.

If while making your down cut, you can actually watch the gap at the top of it, and you will actually be able to see it just start to close up, thats when I change to step 2 (whichever one seems smart for the situation) , also with a wedge going down in from the top, if you put it in as soon as there is room for it, you dont even need to drive it in, just stuff it by hand, and that will hold all the space you need unless you are cutting dead center of a large tree in an un-supported section. For me I always get it stuck in small pieces, limbwood while I'm cleaning off the canopy, so smaller than the height of tbe bar. A second chainsaw doesnt have to be expensive, I always bring my big saw, and a little saw with me when I'm cutting and you can find small homeowner style saws (35-40 cc, 16" bar) for dirt cheap, and while you wouldnt want to buck with it all day, its great to limb with vs the heavy saw, and it will do the job to make a cut to relieve pressure in the wood when you get your good saw pinched.
@deputyvanhalen63863 ай бұрын
I haven't chainsawed logs for years. I think I recall sawing from the top say 30, 40%, and doing several stripe cuts like that along the log and then rotating the log and then doing the remainder from the top, with the cut strips on the bottom! And I'd also do it like you. Funny thing is after so many years (10?!) I've got some long logs to do.
@cars_coffee_carl3 ай бұрын
Last good advice i got for cutting up logs was to do all the 30% cuts from above, then roll the log with your Fällheber (don't know the english word for that tool) and then complete the cuts. This way you only need to roll the log once and you don't risk to sink your chain in the ground. Of course that works only with rollable logs.
