As a person with the disorder called Vasovagal Syncope, that is exactly what happens to me with each episode. They're not as frequent as they were when I was younger anymore, so that's good! The fainting is caused by the anxiety levels of the person, as soon as you try to calm down, the blood pressure suddenly drops and it lacks circulation to the brain for a moment. I don't exactly remember when I faint but I feel myself waking up from a short nap afterwards. My mom described my episodes to me, my eyes roll back and I suddenly lose control of my body as I try to fight it off. In short, it's not a MAJOR condition, just a sudden drop in adrenaline levels. It's completely harmless when sat down, otherwise you can get a concussion from a fall when these happen. (This also happened to me when I got my ears pierced!)

Little storytime: When i was about 7 and going to the mall to get my ears pierced at God forbid CLAIRE'S, i was super excited. This was my first piercing ever and i didnt feel too nervous or anything. I got up on the chair, the piercer did her thing with a rather unsanitary looking piercing gun. The piercing didnt actually hurt much, but as soon as i stood up i felt a little dizzy. I dismissed it as nothing and told myself i'd feel better in a minute. Well, as soon as i stepped out of the shop i told my dad i was a little lightheaded. Next thing yk i'm out cold on the mall floor with people staring at me. Quite embarrassingly, i had vomited on the floor and had to drag myself to the bathroom to get cleaned up. If something like this has ever happened to you, please dont feel bad or embarrassed about it. I remember i was, but everyone reacts differently. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Body Piercer for over 12yrs here... Yes, this does happen, but not as much as the uploader states. Generally, in my personal experience, it happens to my younger clients whom are really nervous and don't eat anything beforehand, (which they usually lie about) and we find out afterward. I personally thoroughly screen every client but there's only so much you can do. The trickier/scarier passout piercing jobs are when you are doing a tongue-piercing and mid-piercing the client starts to drop like a sack of potatoes and is trying to swallow while you have there tongue clamped and the needle is still in... Most bring a friend with them and when this happens, you need to act fast and ask for assistance by getting them to hold them up so you can finish the job and then attend to them medically. After they come to, they say it felt like they were "dreaming" and are pretty out of sorts. Once they rest and we give them juice, etc to raise their blood sugar levels; they're fine. It can be pretty scary for the parent or friend watching as they think something went wrong, but, yes, it does happen from time to time and you need to make sure they're calm so the situation doesn't escalate. This post wasn't to scare anyone from getting pierced (hopefully) just wanted to give everyone some further depth and what to expect if this does occur. Stay beautiful everyone... Peace.

I got my tongue pierced back in the '90s, The piercer messed up and it didn't go in straight so some of it punctured through muscle. It was so painful I went ghost-white and couldn't even move my tongue for 2 weeks, I had the piercing for nearly 3 months before it started pussing up. To make matters worse, the ball wasn't screwed on straight and had stripped the thread, so the only way to get it removed was to cut it off with bolt cutters. Edit: to this day i still have a scar on my tongue.

Holy crap! I got mine in the late 90s and was so horribly painful the moment they take out the clamp (that momentarily presses so hard you dont feel when they puncture your tongue) and the blow flow comes back, jesus that was painful. the swelling for days after when every little movement of your tongue is like biting your tongue over and over again. i couldnt eat for days hahaha but it was done overall perfectly. still have it to this day after 25 yrs! they have to be certified to do that in the country where I got it with some minor surgical procedure certification or something.

As someone who faints often (vasovagal syncope), seeing faints handled improperly annoys me so much. If you see someone about to faint, you NEED to get their head below their heart so that blood can return to their brain. Ideally, lay them down. Trying to keep their head propped up is the absolute worst thing you can do and will only prolong the fainting episode.

In case anyone was wondering, the "passing out" is what's known as a "vasovagal response" (syncope). It *can* happen with about 40% of all humans. However, because each person has a different set of triggers, not everyone with a vasovagal response will be triggered by the nose ring or even the sight of blood (a common trigger). There is also Vasovagal Disease, which is quite debilitating. Both come from a genetic mis-wiring of the vagal nerves within the brain. You may have seen Grissom test a guy on a tilt-table in an old CSI episode. This is what that was all about.

Looooong time ago when I was around fourteen years old a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to accompany her and a friend of her to get a piercing. It was a relatively new trend around here back then and only jewelers provided an official piercing service. It was not allowed for underaged people to get a piercing but this girl got a permit from her parents. So the three of us went to the jeweler store which was run by a nice elderly couple. I still remember how I had a look at all the nice things while my friend watched her friend getting her nose pierced. Suddenly there was a loud noise and turning around I wondered if they accidentally knocked something over. But it was my friend's friend who fainted on her way out and fell very unluckily on the foot of one of the displays. Everyone was in shock but she was fine afterwards.

The reason people faint when they see blood, especially their own blood, is due to a reflex that occurs when your brain thinks you're bleeding that quickly lowers your blood pressure, that way you will lose less blood and it will give your blood more time to coagulate/scab at the wound.

As someone who’s fainted several times growing up, I can attest that it does just feel like you fell asleep for a moment. I was always confused why people are in the middle of freaking out when I wake up. The first time it happened, I actually tried to go back to sleep in an attempt to “nope” out of the situation. 😂

Well it depends. I fainted once while standing and it definitely didn't feel like just falling asleep. I came out off a hot bathtub, walking a few meters and then broke down after feeling dizzy.

I suffer from anxiety... And when an attack is coming, I just tell my wife "be ready, I might just faint in a couple of seconds, don't freak out" 😅 it is horrible but at least I have someone to be there with me.

I’ve been experiencing fainting several times over the past few years, notably while I was still in high school in my last or second to last class, and driving to work, though that second one might be heat stroke, which I have taken steps to avoid since the possibility was suggested.

Worked as a tattoo apprentice for a while and we had a few piercers in the shop. I can confirm that fainting is definitely common. We had one lady wait to faint until she got tot he front desk to pay. Fell flat on her back and convulsed a little, then got up like nothing happened. Super weird.

You can usually feel a faint coming before it happens. I remember last time it happened to me was when I got blood drawn. I started to walk out and had that light headed, weak feeling so I sat on the closest chair and fainted.
