Here's my theory: The dad had Tina with the neighbor. However, Oliver is the result of him cheating on his wife with the nanny. He's kept up the lie of saying they were from a past relationship. After the wife realizes everything was a lie, the family gets rid of the nanny. The two condoms represent "two avoidable mistakes" This results in the nanny having her kid taken away from her. She kills both of the parents and replaces them with doppelgangers. The "business trip" is the representation of the last bit of normality in the game leaving. The neighbor's (Thomas' mom) death wasn't vengeful. It was to showcase the pain of a mother losing her child. She would rather go through the pain of dying before her son than see him die. Instead of leaving him parentless, the doppelganger takes over. The death of the babysitter was unfortunate but had a purpose. The nanny believed the babysitter was unworthy of taking her of her children. Now with everyone out of the picture, the nanny has been reunited with her "children" The nanny uses the crows as her eyes.

THEORY: Mrs Marquez was lonely and found comfort in taking care of the kids…and with the kid’s Dad. The condoms in that secret box tell me that he may have been cheating on the mom with Mrs Marquez. She fell in love with him and his children, and began to want to be apart of their family. Maybe she threatened to tell his wife their secret to ruin their relationship and infiltrate the family, but he secretly killed her so that she couldn’t (Oliver wondering if his dad had ever killed anyone while he was snooping around is a hint to this). To get revenge, her spirit killed the new babysitter because she was jealous of her replacement, and took the kids so the parents would suffer, and they could be together again.

not really much of a theory but more of an observation..I’ve watched this video quite alot last year. the foreshadowing of everything that would conspire was quite literally in our faces the moment it started. tina playing with two of the same action figures and saying they were “doppelgängers” along with another term as we heard throughout the rest of the game “doubles”. from then on out we saw doubles, double tina, double condoms, double mrs.jordan. everything was doubled and clearly significant to the gameplay. yeah yeah they were doubled to lure the kids but there’s more to the story than just that. oliver and tina were clearly targeted by the being that took them. think of the appalachian mountains and the creatures that reside there..they stalk their target before they get them so they could lure them out. when we saw the rock yell out oliver that was definitely a way of luring him towards it. I saw a comment ask why veronica or thomas weren’t taken as they were also children and I believe that’s because veronica wasn’t a target but in the way. if she had somehow protected the kids from the thing that took them, they would’ve been ok. thomas wasn’t taken as he was bound to the house and isn’t really able to wander off into the forest on his own. I feel like what REALLY set tina and oliver as targets is when tina’s doubled lured oliver off to the rock which made him faint. I also wanted to point out the significance of crows. there’s a saying that says, “where there’s crows, there’s death.” like how we saw the crows eating sparkles.
