We don't at all but it really needs to be discussed ahead of time because black folks dont prepare for death enough life insurance is rare our families are left with the expense of the funeral if we do get life insurance it's the barrier minimum that would cover the funeral not to mention we dont leave wills and families are ripped apart fighting over who gets what. It's always a mess when someone grandma or momma passes. I pray as a community we start discussing it more

Honestly, no one really talks about funeral preparations unless they've reached life expectancy, not many people are out there selecting their burial plots. Most people get life insurance policies and let the planning of the funeral fall onto the closest living relative. Also, a little known fact, If you get your life insurance agent to come out to your property then you'd be able to get an in dept policy that covers inheritance and the distribution of assets, rehoming of the kids and the children's trust. It's really simple if you dont have the time to go out and meet with an agent or dont want the basic insurance that's offered over the internet and the rates are lower if your younger, a non smoker or havent smoked in the last 2 years, a woman, and whether or not you have a steady job. For instance, a 20 year old that doesn't smoke, has a job, and is female could get a half million dollar life insurance policy for as low as 79 dollars per month with suicide coverage kicking in after 2 years. So even if you kill yourself your family is entitled to the full half million dollar pay out amount. This is the plan I got 7 years ago and since I was so young I didnt even have to take a physical exam. I will say this, be sure to update your policy as your family grows because its essentially a will and you wouldn't want to leave any child out.
