I had the same situation happen to me in Orlando a couple years ago. Seller saw me looking up things, then asked how much they were worth. (Do your own research, buddy!). He kept asking if he should be asking for more on his prices. I told him, "not if you want to actually sell them". Then I get to checkout, trying to be respectful and just pay and go... and he says "another customer looked some of that stuff up for me, I'm going to keep this, this and this" and proceeded to take things from my pile. I did the same thing; threw my hands up (with a wad of cash in one hand), said "have a nice day and good luck with your sale" and made sure he saw how much money just walked away from him. Similar story: I joined in with a neighbor to do a sale one time about 8 years ago, we used her yard and I just brough my things over. The few items she DID bother to price beforehand were ridiculously high and whenever someone would actually ask her about them or make an offer she would say "I really dont want to get rid of it and thats why its priced high" She accepted 0 offers and only made $13 that entire weekend and when she found that I had made around $300 she was pissed. She told me she should have just given her **** away like I did 😅 I was like GIRL, if I had given it away I wouldnt have a fannypack full of cash. I actually wanted to sell things and priced them to SELL, not to hoard up. She ended up realizing that she was not ready to have a yardsale and part eith things that had belonged to family that had passed away many.many.MANY years prior. I advised her that she should never do another yard sale and should just hoard it all up for her poor kids to deal eith. Ahe actually agreed 😂😂

I went to a sale week before last where they were selling Mom's stuff (she was moving in with one of her daughters and daughter wasn't letting her "bring all this crap to my house". But they had gone on eBay and wanted the highest sale price they found for every item. I was looking up sold comps and they were like "we already checked and it's selling for $80" when the highest sold comp was around $30. After finding 3 super overpriced items, I tried to explain the difference between selling vs sold on eBay and she started yelling at me for trying to steal from their mom. I dropped everything in my arms (nothing breakable) at her feet and said "you're going to end up with all this in your house because you've priced it so high no one will buy any of it. You said yourself it's crap but you're pricing it like it's gold. Good luck alienating all of your customers and not selling a thing." and walked away. She was still yelling when I drove away and I'm sure they still have all that stuff...

I don't even waste my time anymore honestly. If a garage seller has printouts of eBay listed comps and/or start fumbling through their phones to find an eBay listing for the item I just walk away. I used to try to explain that that listing price isn't the sold price, that certain particulars in the listings change the worth of the item (i.e. sealed item, original and reprint, condition, ect). Also at times I would mention that the eBay price doesn't represent the time, materials and energy put into preparing a listing (testing, cleaning ect.), the time it takes to sell the item, and then the time and materials it takes to ship the item. Then I also have went so far to explain that there is a possibility of the item not functioning properly, missing essential parts ect. There would be a few that would listen (very few), but most would stick to their guns and offer a 10% or so discount on the eBay listed price because "they know i need to make a little too". I don't waste much time at those sales anymore and the advice I give has also changed, instead of offering honest account of how that peak price is reached (if at all) I tend to just tell them they did a portion of the work already (they looked on their phone) that they should just clean the item, test the item, take good pictures of the item, list the item and then wait 6 months or more at that peak price filtering through any questions or concerns from buyers and then they may be able to get 1/2 to 3/4 of their asking price. Seems legit. So that said to all garage sale owners or thrift stores, you have every right to ask for that eBay peak price, but you have to be willing to do the peak price work to get it and have the correct peak price item in peak price condition. I'm here to buy from sellers that want to get the stuff gone and don't want to do the eBay work, not people that want eBay prices but don't want to do the eBay work.
