"Never marry a black woman." Believe it or not, we heard this statement along with many other mixed race relationship myths before we got married. We also heard "You shouldn't marry a white man." 😳
In this video, which is part of our Bridge Building series, we break down some of the biggest mixed race relationship myths we faced while we were dating as well as some others we know can be challenges for interracial couples.
Even though mixed race (or interracial) relationships have been legal in the United States for over 50 years, many people, cultures and groups still have misconceptions, myths, stereotypes and even fears about mixed race relationships that create challenges for couples trying to make their interracial relationship work.
Our experience as an interracial couple has been overwhelmingly beautiful with so many people supporting us every step of the way. But we did overcome many external AND internal challenges that we feel could help other people view and treat mixed race relationships more positively. We hope this video genuinely helps you whether you're in an interracial relationship, trying to support someone who is, or just wanting to understand this topic a little bit better.
Please feel free to share any ideas, experiences or questions you have about mixed race relationship stereotypes/myths in the comments section.
As always, make sure you subscribe to our channel and turn on those notifications. If you have any questions or video ideas for us, let us know. We'll do our best to make it happen. Thanks for watching our videos. Long live the swirl!

After marrying a black woman, I came to realize how prevalent racism still is in America! Although we have a very strong inner circle of family and friends who supported us from the beginning, we have also had to remove family and friends because of their hateful attitudes. We chose to love them from afar, as we cannot make people live their god given senses. No Regrets! Life is filled with shedding people who does not align with your spiritual values and beliefs as you continue to evolve in life. Our marriage has endured a lot of negative views which never interfered with our love. It just revealed some people are close minded and unwilling to change. I have learned so much from my beautiful black wife. I would not change my life for nothing.

Keep just pleasing God and your wife...that's what God requires..we will always come out just right when we obey God and not man...man is made from the dust of the ground and All of us need Jesus Christ.. without Him, we cannot truly love and we can do nothing!!! and unless a person allow Jesus in the heart ❤️, he or she will never be able to understand God's ways...He's no respect of persons and never will be!!💕💕Peace and love to you all🌹🌹🙏🙏

I'm a WM married to a black female for 23 years. I remember some years ago my wife and I were in our car and stopped at a stop light when a young black couple pulled up next to us. We both had our windows rolled down so I could hear them talking. The male who was driving said to the female passenger. "Check it out" The female said "So What". It did make me glad to hear that it didn't matter to her that we were an interracial couple.

@@brettertogether BLACK MALES... HAVE BEEN BEEN WITH WHITE WOMEN FOR CENTURIES.. THAT'S NOTHING NEW.. BOTH OF MY PARENTS AND STEP FATHER HAD DATED WHITE PEOPLE IN THE LATE 60'S/70'S.. PLENTYYYYY OF WHITE MALES HAVE ALWAYS DESIRE AND LOVED BLACK WOMEN.. THE ISSUE WAS.. 1. BLACK WOMEN ARE RACE LOYAL WHEN IT COME TO DATING, AND WE'VE PAID A HEAVY PRICE FOR THAT LOYALTY EVEN COST MANYYYYYYY BLK WOMEN THEIR LIVES.. MORE NOW THAN EVERRRRR.. BEING WITH THEM IS & ALWAYS HAVE BE TO OUR DETRIMENT & MENTAL/EMOTIONAL HEALTH.. THANK GOD MORE BLACK WOMEN ARE DATING OTHER RACES OF MALES.. 2. MOST WHITE MALES DON'T KNOW HOW TO OR THEY ARE SCARED TO APPROACH BLK "FEMALES" ( I HATE THAT TERM IN RELATION TO WOMEN/GIRLS 😬😬.. I DON'T USUALLY USE THAT WORD TO DESCRIBE GIRL HUMANS.. I'D DEFINITELY RATHER BE CALLED "GIRL OR WOMAN"). 3. BOTH WM/BF OFTEN WORRY ABOUT OR ARE DISCOURAGED TO DATE EITHER RACE.. ETC, ETC... THE BOTTOM LINE.. MORE AND MORE WHITE MALES ARE DATING/MARRYING BLK "FEMALES"... OUT IN THE OPEN... LOUD AND PROUD... THAT'S WHAT'S MORE RECENT IN THE INTERRACIAL WORLD.. MY FIRST BF WAS WHITE/KOREAN (HE LOOKED HAWAIIAN), EVERY SINCE I WAS A TEEN WHITE MALES HAVE ALWAYS APPROACHED ME MORE THAN BLK MALES.. AND ALSO HAVE ALWAYS TREAT ME BETTER IN EVERY SINGLE REGARD.. PERIOD.. THE BW'S STRENGTH, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, WISDOM, GOING THRU TOUGH LIFE EXPERIENCES.. YET, STILL BEING ABLE TO RISE OUT OF ASHES AND PUSH THRU, OUR NON DAMSELS IN DISTRESS COMPLEX, HARD WORKERS & DON'T WAIT ON MALES TO GIVE HER ANYTHING (BECUZ WE CAN'T.. IT AI'NT SET UP LIKE THAT FOR US 🤷🏽‍♀️).. QUICK WIT, HUMOR, CONFIDENCE, SPIRITUAL INTELLIGENCE.. JUST TO NAME A FEW... IS WHAT MAKE WHITE MALES MORE COMPATIBLE WITH A BLK WOMAN, BECAUSE THEY HAVE THOSE SAME THINGS IN COMMON... A WHITE MAN APPRECIATES BW STRENGTH, WHERE BLK MALES HATE IT.. AND USE IT AGAINST US IN A VERY MUCH, VOLATILE, NEGATIVE WAY.. BLACK MALES OPENLY ADMIT WHY THEY GO FOR WHITE WOMEN.. BECUZ THEY ARE EASIER TO CONTROL AND GET OVER ON.. THAT WHITE WOMEN WHO DATE BLK MALES ARE ATTRACTED TO THEIR DOMINANT STANCE (FAKE DOMINANCE.. THEY DON'T DOMINATE IN SHII BUT SPORTS 🤣🤣).. ANYWHO.. SO YEA.. IT'S A MORE BALANCES UNION WITH WHITE MALES/BLACK "FEMALES" (I "" CUZ I HATE USING THE WORD).. BECAUSE OF THE RELATIONS AND COMMONALITIES/SIMILARITIES... KINDA LIKE A YING AND YANG OF SORT 😉.

The fact that there are still plenty of people out there who are staunchly opposed to interracial marriage is just baffling, but the reality is it wasn't that long ago when it was illegal in the US. We are grateful to God for the progress the world has made on this issue, and pray for a greater understanding and open-mindedness to come upon anyone still confined within such narrow walls of bigotry and ignorance. I love this!!! My best friend all through Jr high and high school Erica is black. It was difficult in the 80s for me to have this relationship in a small Mo rural town but my parents and hers both encouraged our friendship. We could see in them concerns though for us in the community. We both attended one another’s churches. I learned so much from the beauty of praise and worship in hers. It was the first time I’d heard anyone vocalize aloud in a gathering their love for our Savior, hands raising singing in this way that I will never forget. From then until now I’ve seen a lot of growth from the fears and ignorance of then. I am thankful to know you both and that you share in such a beautiful way these topics.

Why do people think they have the right to dictate your life experiences based off their hate? The only thing hard about inter ethnic relationships are other people's ignorance and violent responses to them. How evil of anyone to waste time concerning themselves who you marry. The fact it was ever against the law in America to marry based on skin hue/ethnicity is indicative of how ungodly the first European so called " Christians" who allegedly escaped religious persecution were. The abuse of Native Americans and subsequent slave trade are proof of their foundation's of hate this country and world have built all social and economic systems on. This is why our country and world is in chaos. Hatefulness.

Hey guys I can definitely relate to this video. I'm a black women and my husband is Hispanic and we've been married 11 years now, so we've heard it all. We've gotten the "Are you two together" and at dinners " Is this together or separate" lol. We've had only a couple people be completely rude but most people have been very nice and excepting. I've learned that some have honestly been curious about interracial dating and marriage and have asked questions, which we don't mind answering. I'm not sure why people think our relationship is somehow different then any other relationship out there. I've even had to say, come on guys I'm not married to a Alien he's a man just like any other man, he just happens to be Hispanic lol. its crazy how some people can be but like you guys we've let it all roll off us. I was literally smiling the whole time watching this because the myths are very true and people would be surprised its 2022 but some people still act like its the 50's or 60's. That's in the Bible of Revelation, he say that his people will know his voice cause his name is written in our foreheads. My mixed raced Children got bullied from blacks and whites.. but I would tell them, just be proud of who you are, and I Love you, You are unique, then I would hug them, and they would go back out and play... I believe it all depends on how the parents teach the Children, and to forgive people.. And I never taught my kids to be prejudice against anyone..

I find talking about race relations to be far worse now than they were when I was very young. My mother was a black woman from North Carolina and my father was a white man from Brooklyn. This was the early 1950s when they got together by the 60s people had no problem discussing race relations with someone of a different race but nowadays people are afraid to discuss it which makes it even worse.

You came across my timeline today, and I appreciate your video. I use to be so fearful of expanding my options. Even though bm flocked towards interracial coupling and marriage, that "bed wench" term those same bm spewed gripped me for decades. All people have some African blood because life came out of Africa and the Lord God, said that we were here first and that we blacks are his ROYAL PEOPLE and have the FULLNESS of his blood that's why our skin is dark and it protects us from many things. The Lord said we are the descendants of the Children of Israel and we are under a curse and went into slavery do to African Idol Worship. He said other races came about because of a mutation, but that he loves us, all the same because we are all made in his image. The blacks are the chosen people of God, I don't say this in pride but its just the truth. We are the true Hebrew people of the bible. These are the End days and the Lord is beginning to wake his people up to who they are. Salvation is for all people of all ethnicities. JESUS CHRIST loves us all the same. I just like to tell people what he has told me, to shed light. Nevertheless, God Bless

Being born and raised in NYC, where every culture on the face of the earth lives, I have not had to endure nonsense from others because I did not marry a Black man. My attitude is, you don't have to live with me or my husband........so what's the problem? The problems that we have had, have had absolutely NOTHING to do with our difference in race. When I think of how many people who are divorced from same-race marriages, meanwhile we are still together after 46 years of marriage............well, nuff said.

Hi, Brydon and Mina! Keith Brown here from Latter-day Saint Musicians. I have really been enjoying the videos that you have been making. This video really hit close to home because sadly, in the year 2022, there are still people on my father's side of the family especially who are not highly in favor of interracial marriages. There are some who are still of the 60s mentality that each "race" should "stay in their own lane." One of the main arguments is that children will somehow be adversely affected if their parents aren't the same skin color. At a young 63 years of age, I say that is total nonsense. Children do not see the color of a person's skin. They are taught and learn prejudice and racism from family members, peers, and other outside sources. Personally, I wish the word "race" was eradicated from the English language. There is only one true race, and that is the human race, which is beautifully diversified with many beautiful different shades. The content of a person's heart and character is what is truly important and not their skin color. This is already too long, but I wanted to end with a honest question. How has religion or religious beliefs played into your relationship? I would even be curious to know how some people at church may have reacted to the two of you getting married. Maybe you could do a video and talk about that a little bit. By the way, you have a beautiful family! I hope to be able to meet you and sit and talk with you someday. God bless!!

Hello Keith! We’re so grateful you’re enjoying this journey with us! Thank you for sharing your experiences and opinions with us. We really appreciate hearing other perspectives. You’re right, it’s amazing that people think that way in 2022. Children learn what we teach them. If we don’t teach them hate, they won’t learn it. Those are great questions and will probably show up in one of our coming bridge building videos. The short answer is that our faith has been the glue that has held our relationship together along with preparation and prayer and a few other key ingredients. Of course we heard opinions from people at church but that’s a lengthy answer so we’ll save that for the video. 😉 Thanks for watching! Bless you!

I used to be against interracial relationships but I think that was mostly looking for the lens of a BW looking to be with a BM and feeling like I had less good options of BM but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized how limited of thinking that was. Why not open my options and see what else is out there? Luckily I’ve found my partner but if I could do it over I would definitely open my options. But I think BW should specifically look to open their options especially those who are educated and successful. Find the best man for the job!

Thus far this is what I see. My husband and I opened the world to our children and we prayed our love would be the foundation that would enable them to evolve in a world that can be beautifully flavored in accepting people just as they are. Your video shared how this can be accomplished with respect of one another. Myths are better talked out. Beautiful blessings upon you and your life’s journey. 🎀✝️✝️✝️💕👣👣
