Never Park a Tractor behind the Combine-Wise words from my Grandpa. I'm really sorry guys, but...it was a very eventful day. I didn't drive anything other than the combine, nothing broke down. I'll we did was harvest about 140 acers of corn we're down to about 300 acers.

Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Having been a professional pilot for the past 35 years I love it when my passengers comment on how easy my job looks. I always reply "You don't want to be with me the day it doesn't look easy!" Usually shuts them up... :-)

No kidding kirk. It bugs me when people spout off how easy they think others jobs are. I am no pilot but I feel safer when they are able to make it look easy. I understand abit about all the responsibility you guys have from a friend of mine, who is also a commercial pilot on several size of aircraft over the years. Both as co-pilot and captain. It really is eye opening.

My Dad used to work all day on the farm, then load a load of hogs just before the men went home. Driving that old GMC double decked with hogs the 50 miles into St Louis was a way for him to stretch his day and not have to be gone from the farm while the men were there insuring their productivity. He was always tired and my Mom was worried that he woujld fall asleep driving. The solution was to send my little sister along with him to talk to him and keep him awake. I guess it worked, he never had an accident.

There is a ferrous check ball in the nozzle that is suppose to be held open by the blue ring (A magnet) of the filler. Sometimes it's not strong enough and you can get a magnet to fit on the nozzle to bypass this (The nozzle will also then spray if it's not in the filler so be careful). If that still doesn't work then the pump is just pumping too fast and you can either adjust it down either via a flow controller if it has one or changing belt pullies to underdrive the pump. Or if you are real desperate kink the hose to restrict the flow rate. Learned all this filling up def in trucks at stations :) Lots of fuel stations actually keep the magnets on hand it's such a common problem.

Cool to know. Here in germany we have the same problems when fueling our semis with def/adblue.
@Cragified
@Cragified 2 жыл бұрын
@@Knallteute Yeah it is a well intended safety to prevent people from accidently putting def in the diesel tank. Just doesn't work properly some of the time. If the magnet on the tank filler isn't strong enough for the nozzle+friction pressure of the def going around it, the check ball gets pushed closed.

Zac I worked for a farmer for about 15 or so years. All my buddies. Oh yeah you get to ride in an A/C cab, nice comfortable seat. Just ride all day. That ain't hard to do. Like you said, they don't see the sun baring down on you fixing things. Digging a plugged plow or combine out. At work at 6 or 6:30 AM and still at it at midnight. Asking where you been the last few weeks? Harvesting or Planting or Plowing. Yeah in that A/C again. Real hard work. I told one buddy, Come ride with me for a day. I knew the next day was going to be a bad one, knowing what we had to do. I told him be at the barn by 7AM, and mind you we are starting late by that time. He got home about 1AM next day he called me at around noon. Dude I just got up. Told him I started at 6:30 again. LOL For some reason he never poked me anymore about riding in a A/C cab and corrected others when they would say something about it. You and your dad have a dryer to tend with. We did not, I do not know anyone in our area that has a dryer not even our Grainary has one.

How does the pump sense a full tank? If it's like gasoline then there's an air back-flow thing. The donut might keep the nozzle from fully inserting and so let the DEF flow more evenly.

It's probably not your Def tanks it's probably the nozzle itself they tend to crystallize if you don't run a lot of Def through them. You might try banging that nozzle or hammering on it a little bit and see if you can knock some of that crystallization out of it and then it will probably pump better.

In reference to the title. The first thing the first farmer I ever worked for told me, was stay away from the back of the combine, you never know if the driver is suddenly pulling the handle backwards. And funny enough, the last farm I worked on. The manager would sometimes drive my tractor during harvest if wasn't done in in the bins and the dryer before they headed out. Then when I got to the field an hour later. First thing I could do was pull out and clean the pre radiator nets because he had to drive so close to the combines that he would pick up every single grain of dust with the tractor. Because obviously there was no reason for him to get out and look.

Back in my day you didn't leave the field if there were crops to harvest and the weather was good. But we were running 10,000 head of hogs and farming 18,000 acres of corn. It was a massive operation around harvest. Now looking back it was against every child labor law we have on the books. But I can remember doing my homework in the cab of a tractor and calling in sick to school to run a grain cart for 18 hours. Nuts.

I recently made jokes on facebook on how we didn´t care about flaccid corn and if it´s moist, well we sunk two foragers on their belly twice only today and theres still ways to go. I´m done. We´re carrying yankums and boards to unhook silage trailers on every tractor just because we know we will need them sooner or later. Meanwhile the plants have turned as blonde as yours, so you cant even use it as feed silage anymore, our biogas plant has a lot of work to do till next season. I crack a cold one to more uneventful days 🍺

Can't say for Zach but he's close enough to us where it was the same but when we had the storm roll in, in August or September can't remember what day now, it knocked a chunk of corn down in some sections across all fields.

Do you plan to use the bat wing to chop some of your corn stocks up since Your current tillage options aren’t working well.?

At least you don't have to worry about running over a pickup like us miners. 🙃

Words of wisdom. I remember when my Dad backed the Combine into his truck. Everybody learned a lesson that day!🤣 #bowlgiveaway
