Before using Liquid Lock, you can remove most of the water by pouring a bucket of water into the bowl. Pour it in quickly so the water has enough velocity to create a siphon effect.

@@WhiskeyGulf71 The goal is to empty the bowl and 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐢𝐭 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐲. You know how a toilet flush works, don’t you? The float falls and the tank and bowl refill. If you use a bucket of water, the float doesn’t drop and nothing refills.

I figured that out when I had to pull both of my toilets a couple of times a few years ago. I have a small Shop Vac that I leave set up as a wet vac all the time so I don't have to empty it and take out the filters. Unfortunately my large Shop Vac burned up in a fire, so I might have to start swapping the small one back and forth.

@user-wt5bf4rw7e She's not saying it's worth the effort to make a special trip to buy 1 package. It's a good tip for a handyman or plumber to keep on hand. Carrying a pack of that with your tools into and out of a house is much more convenient than a shop-vac as well, not to mention that your vacuum may be currently partially filled with dust and would need to be cleaned out first. Or, as a homeowner doing some DIY, maybe pick this up while you're at the hardware store getting the other supplies you need for switching a toilet. Most DIY'ers don't just have spare toilet rings laying around ahead of time. You don't need to be so negative. This isn't an easier fix for every single situation, but it definitely makes sense for some.

One trick I use to minimize the water level in the bowl for this job or for just cleaning it is: quickly dump a half pail of water into the toilet, aiming for the hole. This makes the sudden flow of water clear the "S" tube, pulling extra water from the bowl. Use a full pail, if needed, for a better effect.

Just FYI, at $4.50 /pack it comes out to $7.50 / ounce. You can use "Thick-it" liquid thickener at ~.50 / ounce. If your a plumber using a lot of this, the packets and get expensive real fast. You might want to consider the alternative.

Just looking at the start of the video, I'm really glad that toilets in my country use side exit instead of a hole in the floor, and they much easier to be removed as they simply connect with a pipe. It's nowhere as nasty after removing but even then this is a pretty useful tip for this type of a toilet bowl too.

It's one of many types of polymers made for water absorption. I used to make those and many other types at a plant in Suffolk, VA. One of the uses is for adding to soil in arid or dry areas to absorb the water and the crystals will slowly dry out releasing water back into the soil and keep it moist for a long time so that crops or ground covers can have a chance to grow and take root. They will re-absorb water on the next watering or rainfall. Good for reclaiming desert land.

Fellow senior here, @wannella. Unbolting the tank from the bowl, first, is a little more work - but with the tank off, moving the bowl might then be more manageable. If your knees and backs are up to it, and if there's enough room on either side of the bowl for each of you, you might consider something like the Forearm Forklift or Shoulder Dolly lifting strap systems: remove the caulk around the base of the bowl, unthread the bolts, then slip the bottom straps under the base of the bowl. Then you two would lift the bowl together just enough to clear the tops of the bolts and slide the bowl onto the cart. Installing the new bowl is trickier, because you have to aim for the bolts, but I'm told it's helpful to slip a plastic drinking straw over the top of each bolt: you want straws that fit somewhat snugly so they'll stick straight up, and brightly colored so as to be easier to see.
