What shop did ya buy this? Looking for a metal battery retainer for cr2025 for my gbc cart
@emmettturner94523 жыл бұрын
Please use flux. You get cold solder joints when you attach a new terminal with no existing solder tinning since there will be an oxide layer on the new terminals. Those cold solder joints could become problematic in the future. Also, you would not have had the flecks of loose solder with fresh flux.

i normally touch up joints off camera as its alot easier to do

If only it was 15 years. I'm considering battery holders because the last tabbed battery I put in my Crystal version died after 3 years! 🙄 Having a battery holder would allow me to just use trusted batteries from the store next door, rather than having to order those special batteries from some online shop, which may be old and semy-depleted already by the time I get them.

You can absolutely use the cr1616 retainer in GBA games. (I use them for all Pokemon games too) I did it for my copy of Metroid zero mission. You definitely want to push it down flat. May even use the best sandpaper on the bottom to thin it out a hair. Otherwise the cartridge will slightly bulge. Doesn't affect gameplay but yeah.

Got any tips for repairing a lifted/broken pad? I did this on my brother's copy of Pokemon Sapphire, and the upwards pressure from the battery holder lifted one of the pads clean off. I've heard of some sort of special adhesive, as well as possibly using a jumper wire, but I'm curious if you have a preferred fix.
@JuicyJakeRepairs2 жыл бұрын
if its the battery pad, its very likely there is a copper area nearby that you can scrape the soldermask away and connect too instead. If you still have the lifted pad, you can stick this back down with some adhesive and restore the connection (again with some scraping) If you dont then i would use something like copper tape instead of pad

It would kill them unless you temporarily wire the new battery before removing the old one. Or buy something like a GB Operator to backup your save to a PC. Use the GB Operator again after changing the battery to load your save file back into the cartridge.

@TitusM72 жыл бұрын
lol yes it is better ...
@LRM12o811 ай бұрын
It's better in three ways: - future battery swaps don't require soldering - makes it so you can get a replacement battery at just about any local store, rather than needing to place on order online - those tabbed batteries are more expensive and sometimes only last a couple of years, because they already sat on a shelf for years or weren't fresh (recycled) batteries to begin with. That third point is the most important one to me
