I know its a bit late on the reply. But you are supposed to put the 'saddle' of the clamp on the live end of the wire, the saddle prevents the wire from getting pinched like you can see in this video. Its fine to have these pinches on the dead end of the wire because it isn't under a large load, but if you have a pinch on the working end of the wire it creates a concentration of stress and will snap the wire

Just learned this the other day at my job. Guy used the analogy and showed me how to apply the saddle clamps. But I decided to do some research on the subject. This really ties everything together. Thank you for sharing, you Angel😀
