Tana looks much cleaner and the roads in much better condition than when I was there in 2016. Back then there was rubbish everywhere and stray dogs roamed all over the city, and because of it many locals called it "Andiky-be" (city of much poop).

I would also likd to know. This is 1 of the links we have with Madagascar, and many people do not know this or don't even know where is Madagascar. I'm also interseted about the Makua or other East African Bantu speaking people who are now in Madagascar. If u check the Bara and the Salakava people from Madagascar, you will see that they are connected to Africa. Even some of the words they use resemble some of the Bantu words (i.e. Akoho = chicken (khoho in Sotho); angamba = maybe (mhlawumbe); lamba = clothes; etc.).

Mhm, this is so cool. The words you mention brought two different words to my mind, "angamba" triggered "Kampo" meaning perhaps/or in Setswana, and "gambe" in isinrebele, "lamba" triggered tambatho/ambala/diaparo My colleague's great grandfather came from Madagascar and they trekked through the Capes and eventually settled in North West, but of course they only know him by the name given by the slave owner.

@AbM She is Coloured descendant of this enslaved person, so the ties have been severed, and she is yet to visit Madagascar. Her ancestry has Madagascar, India, SA, and something, I think Indonesia...so she traced her roots and was told that this grandfather was responsible for driving the wagon throughout the trek to NW & is buried in the same graveyard with the voortrekkers & co. but different sections of it according to ethnicity. So their records and pictures are kept at the monument.
