Sounds really sweet, Bobby! "Happy accidents" are an engineer/producer's best friend. I had an epiphany years ago, playing basketball on a paved court after it rained. The sound of a dribbled basketball hitting that wet court sounded amazing! Boom! New snare sample!

In the old days ('83) b4 we had a kit, we once recorded the arm of couch for kick and tin of altoids for a snare ... worked a charm ... love is where you find it ... great video, wanna hear end product!

Very cool. My happy accident was a sample of a snare without wires. It added such a beautiful body to the real snare. Sometimes beautiful things happen!

Logic’s drummer includes the percussion track in the midi. And when added to a SD kit, it triggers a snare. Crazy drum roll intro. Just adjust velocities for less machine gun.

Not quite true about the Gated reverb thing. The mic was being run through a TalkBack chain which consisted of SSL Listen Mic Compressor (of which they released a plugin version recently), and a gate to cut out the noise. The button was left pressed in so it picked up the drum room due to how heavy the compression was. As it was running through a gate, the room noise was being cut off making it sound even bigger and gave way to the Gated reverb we know as the classic 80s sound.

I had this happen recently with a floor tom that was hitting at the same time as the kick for a section, by mistake. The other kicks just sounded so much weaker so I then mixed some of the floor tom in with every kick because it just sounded better.

@@BobbyHuff works a treat, Doc. Had some samples I’d imported from the old “Clearmountain drums” sample CD. Added a snare sample under the kick in the kit I called “Hugh? That you?” and suddenly the BIG kick is MONSTER. Another trick that works brilliantly is distortion on an 808 snare and tuck it under an acoustic snare.
