Nic Cage was making some real stinkers there for a while but as of let he has been making fantastic choices, and this is no exception. If you love monster films you gotta see this. In theaters now and coming to shudder soon. Don’t miss it.

The creatures were jarring, but in a great way for me. Far as the characters go, soon as I saw Cage with his 2 sons as infants, I was invested.

It went with the surprise without the thought and went o.t.t with the reveal. It looked like the creature took second place because the actors did well and the premise was there. It's just a guess but I think the idea came from a woman or a quota filler because there's no sense of lore. If it kept it basic as mutated moles from pollution with hints at other animals in the daytime to it would have made more sense but it went in the direction of they only come at night (alien) and even tried some chest bursting sequence trying to fill boxes . Some great scenes overshadowed by lack of thought. The only way to salvage it is from the romantic pairs 10 second game and pretend nobody remembers how it ended and using that as a basic for mutated rapid evolution or an alien invasion but then the world isn't corroded enough for that sense of time and loss . It's a shame because the extended claw and capture scene as well as the creatures erratic beak snapping looked good everything else was just like calm down put the reigns on someone got overexcited in the CGI room after watch labyrinth and an alien double bill and had no idea or took no notice of the projects story and had no basic science or knowledge of animals .it's like there's two stories one the actor's told and a story of an up and coming CGI graphic design artist just trying to make it in America as a woman or minority

The thing that blew me away on this movie was the incredible SOUND the monsters make with their snapping jaws! I thought they might be biomechanical from the scene where that finger spike part keeps extending... It was great. We saw enough of them to freak out but not get used to their appearance. 10/10

@@sinistercinemareviews5420 . maybe. Something biomechanical but not sapient. They do adapt and learn though. It's hard to really peg them down- on one hand, Nick Cage kills one in the caves with a knife- on the other hand, they made that sorta "rat king" wheel at the end to chase the kids in the cart. Strange indeed. Definitely a case of "the less we know, the cooler they are".

These things evolved specifically to hunt humans. They have false teeth and white circles around their pitch black eyes that resembles a face when in the dark. They have foldable limbs that allows them to enter small holes, like airducts and ventillation systems, so no building is safe. They have extendable nails that weve seen one of them use it to tinker and unlock simple locking systems. They make that weird jaw snapping sound, which either causes mild paralysis like a lion's roar or just a useless call like a cat hissing. From the movie, Im still not sure why they do it which makes me fear them more.
@potaterjim
@potaterjim 3 ай бұрын
Some people will absolutely find the monsters goofy, but that's kind of perfect. I've got a theory, that the absolute best horror out there will either paralyze you with fear, or make you burst out laughing. Nothing scares every single person out there, you'll never have something that hits 100% of everyone, but the best stuff is so bizarre and experimental that it produces a _reaction._ Whether that reaction is comedy or terror depends on the person. For me, these were the only things to have given me goosebumps in like a decade. I've gone through countless horror films and I'd seen it all by now, nothing phased me till these little freaks of nature. To me, something like home invasion movie doesn't really scare me, because even though it's realistic, when I'm behind the screen, I still understand _what_ the threat is, and what's at stake. These fucking things were so truly alien and grotesque that I got pulled to the other side of the screen. I have no _clue_ what these things are, they're not like anything I've ever seen before! If they had been some writhing mass of tentacles, I'd at least be able to put it into context, but they had _just_ enough familiar features that, when combined with their freakish behaviour, they made _less_ sense the more you learned about them. Mammalian jaws do not snap like that! When I first saw them, I didn't realize that they had a false face on the broad of their snouts, I thought their skulls were just contorting and flexing outwards!

It could chalk up to less food sources. Logically , if your food source is dwindling, your strength would diminish. Sometimes, a movie doesn't have to spoon feed its audience to see some portion of logic to explain the rational for why a creature that is scary cannot break a door, etc... These creatures may have been fearsome in its early days when humans were in abundance.

This was a brilliant indie horror film that took known story beats, and added a whole new kind of monster that is utterly horrifying. I thought the CG was a little too noticeable at first, but the longer they stole the screen, the more I felt genuine terror because they feel like a tangible creature that could be real and living right beneath our feet 🫣

@SinisterCinemaReviews I love Nic Cage as an actor and the moment I heard it was a creature feature and it has Bill Denbrough from IT as one of his kids, then that got me really excited, and I really enjoyed Nic Cage’s last Horror-Adjacent movie Renfield where he played Dracula. I say Horror-Adjacent to that one because it definitely reminded me more of something like Evil Dead 2 where yes it had horror elements but just as often it was played for laughs as it was to scare the audience. This one from what I have heard from you and also from my aunt and uncle who have both recommended it to me, goes into a much darker toned creature feature department obviously and I can’t wait, I love me a good creature feature and the quiet place comparisons from you really got me interested because, I love the first 2 quiet place films and I can’t wait to check out the Day One prequel that comes out at the end of this month.

@Japaneseanimeguy
@Japaneseanimeguy 3 ай бұрын
The clattering felt to me like a stun move with the rapid motion and loud sound disorienting prey at close range, and with them primarily being ambush or stalker predators they wouldn't need to worry much about ranged defences so it works. The wheel is a weird thing though, as they have plenty of mobility normally with their deceptively long reach and quick burst of speed when moving in a straight line working for catching unaware prey and the wheel grouping to catch something moving faster than running speed when the primary prey target is hominids not being likely to originate naturally, but that gives credence to the bioweapon theory.

Fall guy is in theaters rn. Did they already make a review on it? There are other movies with that concept tho. Die Hart with Kevin Hart kinda does that concept in a way, I think I remember a Jackie Chan movie with that sort of plot. Js it isn't new is all.

Rolly moley this was bad .the monster design was great a large mole creature that depends on it's claw's with a large variant you don't get to see it was just the rolling for me that let it down . Otherwise a great performance by all amongst the terrible idea . They should have kept it that simple with expansion for other creatures. At one point I think it's even trying to be a xenomorph . It's like they gave them to much money time and drug's.

Tbh it was one of those movies I WANT to like but it was meh. I only liked the unique design of the creatures and how unsettling they were, especially when they did that violent jaw snapping lmao. But they failed to deliver how threatening they could be. Like a bat was enough to knock them back. I'd would've excpected them to be a lot more violent and intimidating. Nicolas didn't get enough screen time. It was hard to follow what was going on half the time too. It's ok for a low budget movie imo.
