I’m not sure about the “if you wouldn’t buy it, don’t sell it”, I would NEVER spend 30 or more for a cup but people do it all day everyday. Lol. So I’m going to keep selling them.

I agree but I think Tanner was really speaking more on the quality of work on a product, not necessarily the cost of one.
@MakersGonnaLearn
@MakersGonnaLearn Жыл бұрын
Yes Karla is correct! I was speaking towards quality. Crafters shouldn’t feel the need to purchase crafts, just like a landscaper would rather do their own landscaping.

I am so glad that you talked about not buying your craft fair supplies from the dollar store... I do buy supplies from Dollar store to practice on I buy the vinyl and I realize it's not going to come out the way I wanted to but I could use the cheap buy vinyl and trial & error on it where I cannot with the expensive Siser.

This meme perfectly describes me….a man holding a sign that says “Please help. Not homeless just need money. Wife keeps buying craft supplies!” 😂 My friends and fam keep saying I should sell my crafts but I can’t seem to finish in a timely manner unless it’s a gift for someone I love. I will definitely watch your course but I don’t think successful business owner is my future. My craft addiction is still much cheaper than a good psychiatrist though! Thanks Tanner!

Good advice. Pricing your time is probably the trickiest part of running your own business because it's a non-tangible thing and also people tend to think they are never good enough and feel they can't charge good money for their products.

Thank you SO much for this! I’ve met SO MANY PEOPLE buying and re-selling from dollar tree. Another thing is you can buy quality items at lower or just a tad bit more than “dollar tree” prices by buying “wholesale” so seriously people need to talk about and teach other crafters that are selling for profit about buying at bulk wholesale prices more than dollar tree. And those teachings shouldn’t have to cost people a membership 🤦‍♀️ I’ve been a merchandise vendor for 35 years and I can personally tell you that you CAN get better deals from QUALITY wholesale dealers that dollar tree. He’s correct by saying it’s fine to buy and craft your own items from dollar tree but I’ve seen so many fellow vendors around the country selling or struggling to sell items that you can tell is made on cheap lightweight particle board from dollar tree… like say… someone selling signs. This is NOT a good sign 😅 as opposed to someone selling quality signs on real 🪵 thicker wood that will be built to last~

Care to share what wholesale place to use? I haven't found any that don't require business ID #. Kind of hard to get started when there are so many restrictions.

@@FinallyPlayingThatGameI would love to know this information as well. I have seen some places, but not necessarily for what I need and I can always use somebody else’s wholesale ID number or tax ID number but then I have to help them adjust for what they have to account for taxes it just gets kind of mess.

@makersgonnalearn Do you know if there is a fee associated with securing a tax ID number? Technically, as far as the IRS is concerned, and if you run a sole proprietorship, you can use your Social Security number. It is not an EIN, but it is technically your number. I was just curious what cost are associated with it I am just starting out, but I would like to start buying in bulk and not just from dollar tree…. You know what what I. What you do or you wouldn’t be making this video rotfl

Finally someone says it. I see a lot of things people have made, some even look like a child made it, and then they ask “how much should I sell this for?” I never say anything negative about people’s things they make but not everything is meant to be sold

Start with crap, expect crap. Cheap crap, costs you more over the long run… Work smarter NOT harder… Spend wisely… Never make anything to sell as your sole purpose, you will always be disappointed.

Years ago I did craft shows. I can say I did well. Dependingcwhst year I did them to what i was making. But I was and still am, VERY FUSSY AND PARTICULAR in what I did. If it wasn't perfect or I wasn't happy with it when done. Nope didn't sell it. My son says I'm OCD.gess i am And i do and treat people the way I want to be treated. Like you said... woyld you buy it? Yes or no. Thanks Tanner for all your info.

Im going to disagree with you about buying from the dollar tree for one reason. When I was younger, I designed jewelry. I used the swavorski crystal because I thought people wanted good quality. I was wrong. People wanted cheap, fake crystal which cost significantly less than the jewelry I was making. I believe there are absolutely people who would prefer to buy or cannot afford more expensive items. If you are a broke parent, that $5.00 dollar difference could be huge. It may very well not be sturdy but if it looks good, people will buy it. Dollar stores sell home decor that people buy already.

Thank you for sharing. Boy how I wish this was out about a year ago. I'm into vinyl, painting, candle, and Lazer burning project. I've been craft for twenty years. I think it was harder to sell as we did not have easy access to media. I'm now 60. I do what I love most snowmen and nautical. I sell some but now I'm more happy with my products.

When I make something that seems off to me or just not up to my standard for selling (like the plushies I make), I give it to my kids lol They don’t care if that arm isn’t lined up quite right or if I put in the wrong size safety eyes and they look too small for the head. They get a squishy, snuggly toy. They ask me all the time “mama, if that pattern is a fail, can I have it?” 😂😂 And this way, I don’t feel like I wasted my time and money on something that will never get used. Win/win. 🙌 And thank you so much for all your great advice!

Dollar Tree sells overstock items from the big box stores. That's why stuff is so unpredictable. The quality isn't less. It's just limited quantities
