Willow was so responsive & elegant. She just wants clear, concise, consistent, considerate, calm, confident human communication. The human needs to be very aware, alert & attentive. Everytime Willow started to ever so slightly get distracted & looked away, I noticed Steve very gently swayed her attention back INSTANTLY. Steve's senses are like laser motion-sensors. Amazing. It's so beautiful to watch the honour & mutual respect. Steve NEVER takes the horse for granted & then the respect is mutually reciprocated. It's a partnership. Steve's "reward" system doesn't turn into a demanding greedy/needy love-bombing petting session- just a quick touch/rub to acknowledge the horse like a quick "good job" signal that says "hey, great, yeah I noticed" Everything comes from a place of such deep respect & honour with the horse's consent. Any risky/ potentially 'danger' moves by the horse are dealt with quickly but with respect kinda saying "hey, I know u didn't mean to, that was just a mistake, quick reminder that's Not the way we're goin. K, right now, back up, reset, next move, on we go" No dwelling. No drama. A mindful loving presence & awareness of the symbiosis with a highly intelligent sensitive fellow creature. Really enjoy watching these videos!! I don't own a horse. I just admire these majestic creatures and humans who've found a way to connect & communicate gracefully with horses. Thank you for sharing!! Big thank you to all of you: Rob for being humble & open to unlearning & learning some new tricks, Steve for your incredible skill & experience-backed generous sharing, Tanya? for recording, and Willow for your graceful allowing of humans into your world. 💖

I NEVER watch horse training videos for this long but I was glued to this one. I am very soft spoken and never yell at my 2 horses unless they show aggression to each other in my presence and then I yell and they are like WHAT THE HECK! Rob has a well trained horse and he did great! Thank Rob for his willingness to learn a different way of speaking to his horse. I am with Jenn in the comment below being older I wish I knew then what I know now!

I love how this gentleman was willing to LEARN and LISTEN, and to take the advice given. This is what a true horseman like Steve, Buck or even myself love. Questions!! But if you ask a question, LISTEN TO THE ANSWER!! We older horse people love questions. But LISTEN to the answers and leave your minds OPEN TO LEARNING. Personally I'd love another lifetime, retaining the knowledge I have now, to learn even more! Because I learn something new everyday from these wonderful animals. And what works on one, may not exactly work on another. So even if you go in with a game plan, that may go out the window and you'll have to come up with a new one on the fly!! Great video Steve!! Thank you Rob, for allowing Steve to video it. Best Regards and Stay Safe Everyone!! 💖 From Ontario, Canada, Jenn. 💖 💖 🇨🇦 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

@@mariewallace4336 I'm 56 and still working with these wonderful animals. I've had the pleasure of owning 2 of my own, that I got as weanlings. So any faults they had, was from my training. But you can do so much training on the ground, teaching them discipline without pain, teaching them how to respect your space, standing, picking up of feet for the Farrier, which makes it safer for them and yourself, and many other things long before you have to put your belly over them or a leg over them. But I happen to know of a lady in the barn where I'm at, she's 87 years old and still rides her 16 year old gelding Quarter Horse. Wishing you well. From Jenn. 💖

This is a spectacular video on so many levels! I was blessed to have horses for over 50 years. I'm broken-hearted; due to physical disabilities, I can no longer work with them. A part of my soul is gone. Oh, how I wish I had had access to Steve's teaching when I was younger! I can truthfully say that watching Steve's videos has taught me more in the past few months than years of instruction did. I just wish I could put these lessons into practice. 😔 However, something Steve said early on in the video was amazing and really goes beyond our relationship with horses and crosses over to our relationship with our fellow man. He said the fancy barn, elegant tack, or expensive trailer is not what a horse desires. Steve said the one thing a horse will connect with us is the way we make them FEEL. Isn't that the way it should be with people, too? They may not remember always what we've said or done, but they will remember how we made them feel. The relationships Steve helps repair with our horses and what he teaches here, crosses over to people. What a gift he has given us, our horses and our loved ones! Steve teaches in such a succinct, understanding yet simple way. Wouldn't the world be a better place if Steve's Master Class was learned by all? I want a life "do over." Thank you, sir.

I totally agree with what you said so well! I wished I was still physically able to take all these techniques he has shown us and apply them to a horse. My body gave up but my mind has not. His ways do cross over to how we should treat animals and people! We all like to feel good! Thanks again for another great video!

This was worth watching every single moment. Knowing that you were teaching this lovely gentleman to mend his rocky relationship with a horse he loves - there is nothing more beautiful than that. People who recognize the mistakes they have made and the wrong signals they have unknowingly given and put in the work, willing to make changes deserve so much credit and support for how difficult is on the human ego. Horses never stop teaching us if we let them. And of course, the truly fortunate owners have you, to translate if they don't 'speak horse' as well as they think they do! Your videos are so inspiring and encourage us all to open our minds and build a deeper relationship and understanding. There is nothing more valuable. Thank you so much 💚

I really like the way you do everything 'in miniature'. You mentioned something like this on another video, with an unbroken and fearful black mare with four white socks. That you don't need to move the horses feet by sending him running around a round pen. You can move the feet a step or two in the stable or stableyard and the horse learns the same thing. You can do everything with small gestures and get the same (or better) results. Horses move each other with a flick of an ear or tipping of the head, so they are wired to notice the small things. It's really nice to see that put into practice. I very much like Warwick Schiller's videos for the same reason.

Now that makes the most sense to me! I had commented that I thought learning with just the teacher, who would be the horse, would really help a learner before they work with a horse. Start with human and human, then tandem learner with the teacher, as you say, and a horse, and last just the learner with the horse. Beautiful, slow, safe, steady learning, which for some of us is the way we learn best! 1) Watch someone do the technique. 2) Do the technique on the teacher so they can give feedback. 3) Feel the technique with the teacher using it with a horse. 4) Have the learner practice with a horse with the teacher giving feedback. 5) And of course last, use the technique on one’s own with horses.

I sure appreciate this. One thing that stood out to me is how very little Steve pets and strokes and loves on horses. Hardly any at all, and only briefly with specific purpose. The horses seem to like this freedom from touch. When the owners resume their constant petting stroking scratching the horse seems a bit pressured and confused by it. It's not natural for horses to tolerate a lot of random meaningless touching. Maybe we are doing it more for ourselves than for them.

I wonder if you could get Tanya and Charlotte to watch some of your videos so they could see how disappointing it is to see the action disappear off of the side of the screen. Filming in 'portrait view' is wonderful for looking at tall buildings or rockets taking off but we want to see what you and the horses are doing on the ground, and that requires turning the camera so as to include all of what is happening. Yours are the only videos I have seen on KZbin that are filmed this way. I just wonder if the ladies might be able to see the difference this could make. Thanks for your hard work.

I’m glad Charlotte asked if this ground work should go on and you were able to talk about how annoyed horses get when they are constantly harassed with stuff they already know. That was a really fantastic take away. When my mare was this one’s age she loved to run off after release but now at 18 years of age she just stands there and then in her own good time she saunters off like a good old soul. She can be a problem with catching so I tried the two eyes one eye tactic and it worked like a charm. Thank you 🙏

There are many of us humans who don’t know how to read their own or others languages, and just want to learn so they can do better. So, I agree with you, this video showing this upset and not knowing what to do can bridge a lot of people to a confident, knowledgeable ability! It occurs to me to have this training start with people only. To have the teacher take the place of the horse and guide the person learning using a long rope so it mimicking what one would do with a horse, until the person learning understands the movements and makes them a natural part of themselves could make such training vastly more effective. Once the person at least has a sense of the movements, then would be a better time to start working with a horse. I know for me, it would take a lot of confusion and worry out if I could learn what I am doing before I worked with a horse! Kudos to Rob for sharing this and for making mistakes so we can much better understand what Steve is explaining!!! Kudos to everyone for helping bring this video about.

When people expect animals to be able to understand their every word and tone, when they anthropomorphise( expect human behaviour),they can really hurt them. Great seeing you teach ones to read them in your videos. Great seeing the results possible by working in with their natures... Humans are supposed to have a large brain.. Nice seeing yours used in the way we should with one species of this planet's glorious creation... All take care... Steve I have never ridden a horse but have become so interested in what you do with these beautiful animals. I’m hooked on your channel and love how you control with such a gentle touch and extreme kindness. I’m 77 today and only wish I was more involved when I was younger. Thank you for what you do.

Hope you are not getting a cold, Charlotte!😇 What a lovely horse, Steve. Intelligent, and quick to respond to you. I hope the issues between horse and owner can be resolved. Sure they will be, if he follows your methods

So appreciate Bob for allowing you to show all. This video is my favorite and most valuable to me so far. Willow is a lovely mare and happier for Steve's intervention.

Gorgeous horse with an owner who wants the best for her. Once again lessons that build a better bond and better life for all. I try these techniques on the stable horse I take riding lessons on👍 Thanks again Steve and Charlotte❤️

Hi, i have only just joined the members group here. I have learnt so much in this one video and will be doing a lot of binge watching! I also came to the horse world late I was 48 and now 51, so much to learn. My horse was a school horse and hated it, he planted his feet on lessons and point blank refused to move. He tries to bite and easily gets frustrate, he has been allowed to have this behavior for all his 14yrs. I am hoping videos here with Steve can help me help him be a happier boy

I learned a lot from this video. Hats off to Rob! Takes a strong man to ask for and accept help. He seemed to be a natural.

Kudos & respect for Rob in recognising that he needed to ask someone for help: that’s always the first step if someone is going to change their mindset & behaviour, whatever the problem. You cannot “therap” someone who’s not ready for therapy. Glad he found you, Steve, as you understand the “no room for ego” when working with horses.

I watched this video all the way to the end and I loved it! Such a kind and caring gentleman working with this horse and man who was so receptive to his help. We really need more compassion and kindness in the world today. Thank you very much and I absolutely loved the update, the success clips at the end!

I am so impressed with Rob. What a fast learner. He especially picked up fast on looking at the feet and had very fast, in the moment releases. Well done ! Utah
