Thanks Tony. When I boil my eggs I use the water as an added source of minerals for the garden. I also boil my eggshells instead of baking them. It does the sterilization plus it doesn't heat the house as much as the oven does. Much Love

Omg this was super interesting. I knew eggshells were good for plants because of calcium, but did not know about the other trace elements and organic matter. I’ve just been crumbling them up into tiny pieces and adding them to compost pile. Bit off topic, but I love your jumper, it looks so nice and warm.

I use egg shells in my homemade 'mineral water' for plants. Mix 1 Tb powdered egg with 1 Tb vinegar and let it gas off for 30 minutes. Add that to 5 gallons of water, 1 Tb Epsom salt and 1 tsp sea salt. Stir and let it rest for a few hours, then water your beds a month before planting. It will take healthy soil biology about 3 months to break down the minerals into a form plants can use.

Hello Tony, I've tried eggshells to keep the slugs from my plants and indeed it didn't work at all, they even ate all the leaves of my gooseberry and avoided all the thorns doing so. That was in my back garden last year, now most of those plants are placed on my allotment and I'm going for the calcium treatment now for sure and I do love all those tips you're giving, not only to say they don't work but also explaining why they don't help a lot. Thank you so much for the food of thought(s) you're giving me and the options I have to reduce the slug problem(s) I also watched the video about nematodes on slugs and making your own nematodes juice, I'll have to see where and when I can find such slugs that are already infected because I do want to stay as eco friendly as I can and am open for all the suggestions there are. Wishing you and your loved ones an amazing weekend. Greets Valeria.

My great grandmother, born 1900, always baked eggshells and crushed them, adding them back to the garden as well as to the chicken feed. So, yes, I did know this. But, I wouldn't save them up prior to baking because if they have raw egg on them from cracking that would get pretty grody. Would bake them the same day the next time I use the oven. :)

I only did it on one plant and it tasted ok but who knows what else was in that drywall. I don't recommend this, but the point is the calcium is important for nightshades, and if you eat a lot of eggs or have poultry, the shells are ideal for this, why waste them.
