Simmer organic (3) lemon and (3) grapefruit peels covered in filtered water for three hours, lid on. Leave covered until cool, strain and refrigerate. I also dehydrate citrus peels and blend them into a powder. Sometimes I keep orange and lemon, lime all separate, but other times I just mix them all together. Use in cooking or baking, or add to tea, so many uses! You know, the kids think I'm nuts saving everything like I do, but I will keep on and hope that later on they will remember some of the things I do and become resourceful, especially as times get harder.

This comment comes months after I started saving my orange, grapefruit and lemon peels in vinegar in glass jars. I initially started simmering these peels in water with cinnamon and cloves on the stove as as air freshener when the weather allowed the heat. Then I stored the liquid in the glass jars. It is the most wonderful cleaner! Smells wonderful, cleans every bit as good as the commercial C cleaners, because I compared both! Basically free, after I enjoyed the citrus in recipes! Win win win!

I use lemon peels for hair rinse. I let the peels soak in water for a couple days then use as a rinse 🦋 leaves your hair soft and works better than store bought hair rinse that has all those chemicals in them, and I also use this on my face and body. Another thing I do is use avocado on my face which works well too! I scrape the inside of the avocado skin and use that part that's left after I remove what I want to eat ☺️

Another good option is candied citrus peels. Start by boiling them, which will pull some of the bitterness, then add them to a simple syrup (equal parts sugar to water) and simmer low for a while. Thanks for the information about kidney stones. News to me. Watched my son in so much pain trying to pass one. Wish I had known. In 2014 I ate two lobsters one day and went to have some lobster, shrimp and crab salad the next. I had hurt my back at work so I took an ibuprofen. Less than an hour later I was in the ER . Four days of tests to why my liver was showing that I was an alcoholic or drug addicted when I had never had alcohol in my life , nor cigarettes, nor drugs and no coffee. After the third day they called in a doctor from Japan thinking I had mercury poisoning. He ruled that out . Then the CDC came back with the finding that mixing shellfish and ibuprofen gave me a toxic liver. So they put me on the gall bladder diet for three months. The doctor said it was a shame I was allergic to lemons because lemon water twice a day work get my liver enzymes normal in two weeks. I asked if limes would work and he said no.

Hello!!! Well good for you! We also enjoy grapefruit, with our lemons and oranges. I usually always wash the outside of the citrus with a castile soap, and then I peel the skin away from the white part using a knife or a potato peeler. Those peels, steeped in hot water for about 4 hours, makes the Asian version of HCQ. The essential oils extracted, even though they were subjected to heat, are so very good to consume sooner than later. My husband has always taken a bit from the colored part of the peel, every time he eats an orange! Used to be that only the well to do could afford orange juice. I really enjoyed this video! I already was making my own cleaner from the peels, and I knew about the sugar scrub, and the salt scrub - but I've never put lemon peels in my shoes (makes sense, tho!). For those people lucky enough to have a garbage disposer in their sink, make sure you send a couple of lemon or orange peels down the disposer at least once a week. My aunt (back in the old days) would trim the lemon peels so thin that they would curl and she would place them on the edge of our glasses filled with lemonade. (Made little girls feel so fancy!)

Stacy thanks again for educating on the many uses of plants. I like to make an orange peel tea from leaves I dried in the summer...grape leaves, nettles, raspberry leaves, violet leaves etc. I add orange peels and a piece of cinnamon stick. Let this steep a couple of hours. Orange peels are a great source of nutrition and a bitter that aids in digestion. You can dry them and make a powder to sprinkle on oatmeal, salads etc. I like to eat a few pieces of the peel before my meals to help digestion. Cover lemon and orange peels in honey and store in the frig. to use in your tea and when sick. I know a chiropractor who has his family members eat lemon slices, peel and all when sick with a cold or virus. I do this too along with other anti viral remedies. There is much nutrition in the peels. Thank you for giving us this platform to learn from each other.

Stacey, I loved your flatbread!! I added orange zest (ground dehydrated ORANGE PEEL) to the recipe and yum! Lemon zest is also amazing, but oddly, my favorite is grapefruit zest

Great ideas! I don't use a bag of lemons fast enough before some go moldy. So I squeeze them all and keep the juice in the frig, then bag the peels and pop in the freezer for use later. Now you have given me lots of uses! Thanks!

I occasionally use the peels to make citrus peels preserved in syrup. I was introduced to them when visiting with my landlord’s wife in Greece. She would serve a generous portion of the preserved peel (about 1/4) along side of a cup of strong coffee.

A month or so ago Doug said us guys would find your videos very interesting, but being a guy, I never watched your videos much. Doug was right, I started watching your videos, and am very surprised at the content, and high production value your videos have. Thank him for giving you one more male viewer. LOL I would like to see more on the care and maintenance of your herb gardens since those are the most important items in making a meal taste good. Thanks guys. Keep up the good works you do.

I dice & air dry my organic orange peels then put them in a jar, then add them to teas, YUM! When I buy a LG jug of white vinegar, I put my orange peels directly into it & when it's ready, transfer some in a spray bottle w/ a bit of water & a drop of dish soap & clean my dishes, another bott the same but w/o soap for cleaning other stuff.

Yes, my new bathroom vanity instructions said do not use vinegar on the granite countertop. It's the acid... granite is very soft and porous.

We had HEAPS of lemons from 3 trees I grew from seed. Read you could just freeze fresh lemons whole. They've been there about 2 years now. I read you could just puree the whole lemon up after defrosting and keep.in fridge or freezer to take daily as an immune booster ( spoonful in water). You've given me a lot more ideas though, thankyou. BTW, the lemons were easy to grow from seed and at 4 to 5 years began producing tons of lemons! Keep the trees well watered though.

One more tip - you can use both lemon and orange peels to make a candle. Just leave the "wick" in its place when peeling off the flesh of the fruit, and then just pour in some olive oil and voila! You've got yourself one awesome aroma candle to prettyfy your home 😀😇

I've used these for ages. Every time I peel a fruit for consumption, I toss the well-washed peels into my fridge & freezer, in designated ziplocked bags. I also utilize limes and grapefruit peels for most (grapefruit peels especially for skin applications), and pineapple peels for my foot baths and full baths. (I don't recommend that for folks with allergies or ultra-sensitive skin.) It is important, of course, to *wash each piece of fruit thoroughly.* I have not, however, made a citrus-vinegar cleaning spray from peels, although I do add 100% pure essential oils to mine (and to my pure & clear laundry detergent). Thank you so much for this, I *totally* look forward to doing so tomorrow❣️ I also love to use the fruit ends for my disposal, and sometimes toss into my trash receptacles. Periodically, I add citrus peels (esp oranges) to a pot of water with a cinnamon stick and star anise to fragrance my kitchen. It doesn't seem to fill my entire home (albeit a relatively small apartment), so I need to tweak that a bit. Great vid...Wellness and Blessings❣️

I make a wonderful flea and tick repelling rinse for my dog by boiling lemon peels till the oil is extracted and floats on the top. I strain out the peels, put it in a spray bottle, shake it up and spray my dog after his bath. It makes his hair really shiny and soft and repels pests!
