General Rule: You don't take insurance because normally the Dealer will only get Blackjack 1/3 (~33%) of the time. Anyone correct me if the percentage isn't right. So It's a losing strategy in the long run, which is what this is all about Advanced Rule: when you get to Card Counting and Playing Deviations, if the True Count (which is the Running Count divided by the Number of Decks remaining to play with) is 3 or higher, you should buy Insurance, otherwise don't.

No you don’t ever do it because you have high score and you are taking unnecessary cards that could help the dealer bust. You also are not guaranteed to get 19s and 20s when you split so if you end up with low score and dealer beats you, you just lost double your bet. The point is statistically you will not make more money splitting 10s, even if it’s worked for you.
