As an Ex-RAF Aircraft Airframe Technician I love all of the work these guys are doing. I've done most skills myself. Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near Lincolnshire

There are about 1,500,000 rivets in a Lancaster bomber. That's a LOT of drilling, deburring and drill bits... These guys are DEDICATED!

Thanks for posting the video Neville! Regarding the two different size nuts, it might be that Avro wanted the assemblers to have to deal with one wrench or socket size. On the other hand, I wonder if there is a wrench/socket clearance issue by going to a larger nut size. Just a thought.

In America a Seven Times rivet gun would be called a 7X. I believe it refers to the size (weight) of the slide hammer inside the rivet gun. From the look of it I would guess Dave was using a 2X or 3X gun installing the button head rivets on the aft fuselage skins.

What is the advantage or reason for the chain drilling of the rib lightening/structure holes over marking the centre of the hole and using a pressed 'dimple die and punch' to produce the required form? The reason for the common hex size/differing bolt size in the nuts is common assembly tooling. It is common even in modern manufacturing to have a 'special' fastener to maintain a common assembly tool (socket, spanner key etc.). It minimises tooling inventory, effectively means the only error state is not tightening the fixing and reduces the size of the tool which in multiple tool applications means the fixing spacing is kept constant which is important in flanged riveted or bolted joints.

Happy NY Neville and team there. Question what happens to all the U/S parts once patterns have been made of them is there a static project these parts could go to other than scrapping??

Happy New Year Neville and to everyone working on / assisting / funding the return to flight of NX611 ‘Just Jane’!! If, like me, you wanted to know more about the tailwheel assembly, and how it mounts to the airframe, it’s detailed part way through the video below. That channel has a lot of detailed and excellent information on the construction of Arvo Lancasters (and probably other UK aircraft). It’s a really excellent resource: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZjaeYSYf9qmsNEsi=LcAqK840Myimvwr8

Why, when Lancaster bombers were built two per day, has it taken over eight years to build this example?

Nobody else is documenting the great work these volunteers are doing. Hope they recognise this - this may be the last restored Lanc.
