Oh my gosh, those squid are MASSIVE! Squid fishing is so much fun. Most of the squid we get in Seattle, Washington, USA are tiny in comparison to yours though. We definitely don't need nets to land them lol. What a fun video!

Mount your GoPro to one of your lines to see how the squid bite. You can even weigh the camera case down to make it neutral in the water, so it won't interfere with your bait or will not float on top of the water. If the water is that clear on a sunny day, you should have plenty of light to see at 10m to 15m [maybe even deeper]. Most GoPro type cameras are good to 40m.

Congrats on the new hobie and what a way to christen it... That is a monster. All the Tiger squid I have ever caught up here in QLD have been tiny compared to that. Would love to experience catching a squid that big.

If I was you I’d be putting so many hours into Westernport right now, surely you would have to be one of only a few people out there fishing. Some absolute monster squid and Snapper🐟 up for grabs atm and only going to get better. Another great video such an awesome kayak set up, i’m sure you’re very quickly going to smash all your PB’s ;)

the fact that you brought the good ol' aussie woolworths 15c bag is hilarious. Squid is very delicious. In S.Korea, we have great squid dishes like, squid soup (spicy, beetroot, squid), boiled squid with dips, deep-fried squid (normal breadcrumb batter), dried squid cooked over stove-fire, spicy stir-fried squid with white rice. And squid tastes great when it's cooked over charcoal. SO DELICIOUS!!!

Australia is an aquarium, catching your squids, lobsters, spanish or flathead is so easy, there's no real challenge compared to any other country in this world. You have dolphins entering most rivers at high tide, you can see huge crocs passing by you when fishing in knee deep water, watching a gorgeous sunset with your GF and see a humpback whale jumping.....OZ is so wild....... Would love to go back... I love your country, guys !!! And the last squid you're showing is a horse, congrats, mate !!!!

Oh nice you have a Hobie Compass... I just bought one and installed my mods (rectangular hatch, moved round one to the front, added anchor trolley and installed fishfinder) but now have to wait 9 more weeks to use it because everything is frozen here but in March I'm taking it to Florida. The wait is killing me!

Hey Nev - I have just started squid fishing and really enjoy it. Question for you - how do you stop the squids from squirting ink everywhere?? I am fishing from our boat and we have teak decks and therefore don't want squid ink on the deck! But the squids i catch shoot ink out like crazy! The last time i was squid fishing was in the northern islands of the Maldives in May. We are sailing around the world and got stuck there for 4 months with the covid crisis. We are now in the Seychelles and I have seen some giant squids hanging out under our dinghy so keen to put the jig out. But worried that these monsters will have more ink and will completely blacken our teak decks! Appreciate your input and thanks for your vids they are fun, funny and informative :-)

Thank you for the kind words mate! I honestly don't think there is a way to stop squid from inking in your boat, I've been trying to figure it out for years hahah. The one thing I might suggest is net them over the side of the boat then bring a bag or something over the side and chuck them in that quickly!

im looking at getting into kayak fishing im a total newbie looking at getting a second hand Hobie pa 14 with a full set up live tank and down rigger and rocket launches for $2500. what are your thoughts? good to go or should I be looking at a new one in another brand. budget at the moment is limited to $2500
