@jymebale55454 жыл бұрын
No, it will not be any threat to Harley at all, the distinctive BMW side cylinders keep that from happening, most riders now a days want the forward controls period and I believe all Harley's have them, plenty also want the Harley sound, I ride a 09 1200rt black, not new here in south Tx and most of the Harley riders now wave, there are NO beemer riders down here at all, NONE of the Goldwing riders wave, don't really care either, a bike is a bike as long as your riding I don't care what brand. My bike really is not black, it's very dark grey but looks black and a damn nice lookin bike. I love Harley's too, have ridden all Jap and Brit bikes, never had the chance for an Italian yet. These new beemers are sharp lookin and people will buy them, I'd take one if given one.
@aahr1004 жыл бұрын
Actually I do think this will be a threat to Harley. Not from the point of view of its current customer base which is dwindling year on year but from the point of view of new riders coming into the market who want something different but with plenty of power, torque and reassuring presence that such big bikes offer. Also BMW has proven it can come in and disrupt markets its previously been unknown in (like the super bike brigade with its S1000RR) and its a much more innovative company that can afford to take risks that Harley always seem to shy away from for fear of losing its old school customers

LOVE this BMW R18 (I owned a R1150R) BUT... I will wait for reliability numbers to come out on the R18 before even thinking of buying another BMW. Today, Harley Davidsons are better in reliability than BMW! So if anyone out there does not care about this MAKE SURE YOU GET THE EXTENDED BMW WARRANTY with any of their bikes.
@sweetcostarica4 жыл бұрын
@FR Harley Davidsons (today) are all cruisers friend So no Harley in Paris -Dakar logically. The question is not can a Harley do what a BMW can in a cross country desert race, no. The question is can a BMW be a great cruiser type motorcycle & also beat a Harley Davidson who are the kings of the cruisers. HISTORY The history of BMW trying to get into the modern cruiser market is one of failure. Remember the R1200c cruiser (1997 to 2004). Dr. Herbert Diess, then President BMW Motorrad, said, _"...a prime reason for discontinuing the bike was the apparent unsuitability of the _*_1,170 cc_*_ (71 cu in),_ *_61 hp_*_ (45 kW) engine to then current market tastes and the unavailability of a suitable engine for further_ _ development,..."_ CAUTION with BMWs Today, Harley Davidsons rate better in reliability than BMW (see Consumer Reports)! So if anyone out there does not care about this MAKE SURE YOU GET THE EXTENDED BMW WARRANTY with any of their bikes. That is my 2 cents worth. God bless

@FR I am in the USA so I can not speak for India, China, Brazil, or Europe's motorcycle market. Consumers Report is a American organization and only shows the US market so I will use it personally. Besides this I have owned three (3) BMWs and many other types of bikes (that I have worked on personally but rarely) Can you guess which brand gave me the most trouble *_by far?_* Yes, you are right. SO.... if _"...a brand new HD, it leaks oil from the factory!"_ What does a new say BMW M18 do since in the USA BMWs have worse issues? *I think you get it now.* Consumers in the United States bought some *472,000 motorcycles* in 2017. That is a large market. If _"...the americans who can't deal with modern technology,..."_ (WHICH IS TRUE - *_FR_* YOU ARE RIGHT HERE) of the _Austrian, German and Swiss company's_ they will buy other bikes that are simpler & more reliable that they do not have fix. These bike are from Asia, England, & the USA. Something to think about.

@FR No problem, I have owned 2 BMW F650, one was the Dakar version and they had a few issues too but the engines worked 100%. My motorcycle today is a Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports and it is excellent but too high. Linked brakes were always really intended for quite big weighty tourer style bikes, to keep the weight distribution more even over the whole bike, when brakes were applied, and therefore more stability/traction and effective braking in halling all the weight up, without locking wheels and creating some form of a skid, losing traction. I never thought, for myself, that linked brakes were much good on a "normal" sized type bike, but on the more weightier bikes and tourer type, very good and efficient.

First of all, excelent video. I think is pretty cool bike. The engine exposed is superb. The frame is the classic false hardtail, nothing new, but well done. But, there is a critical problem in the project and the BMW know that. The giants cylinders, the highlights, in front the legs block the good riding position for a cruiser bike. Because of that, i believe that bike will sell just for uses in urban ridings, little trips, custom bikers and garage builders. Who buy know that too. No one is donkey currently. It's a bike to enjoy the ride, the vintage design, the classic style, a visit to the past with a lot of tecnology. Congrats BMW. It's very good for the market and consumers. One more option. Thanks. I’m not a fan of cruisers and I’ve never owned a Harley Davidson, but I’ve always been a fan of BMW motorcycles. Because I’ve never owned a Harley doesn’t mean I don’t like the way they look. They are beautiful machines, they just don’t fit the type of riding I like to do. The proportions of the R18 are all wrong, in my opinion. Make the tank bigger, the engine and the mufflers smaller. Then raise the saddle. Maybe throw some Earles style forks on it and I’d reserve my bike today. If they want to go after the Harley/cruiser market they are using the wrong engine. The boxer is a dependable, reliable workhorse that just doesn’t fit the cruiser mindset. They would be better off designing a cruiser around the K1600, like Honda did with the Valkyrie.

That's why these bikes have such ridiculously big ugly exhaust to cover the shaft.

Mike I think it is to teach H-D riders to keep their kitschy assless chaps with leather frills away from rolling art 😉

it won't get true hardcore Harley enthusiasts, but it will possibly get those people with money to spare that would like to experiencing riding a cruiser. if i had the money i'd buy this over a Harley. i like the styling, and it will standout.

The only thing I don't like about this bike is the exhaust mufflers, its to dam quiet. It's priced right and it looks like a killer ride.

Too bad they didn't make a 900cc or 1000cc or so for buzzing around town.. And it would be a real throwback to the r5...

SO if they could make the seat at 3:18 with adjustable heights, that will help this bike a lot ..

I rode couple times BMW boxer and I can't stand the heat coming from those engine blocks. Living in tropical country any big capacity air cooled engine motorcycle really makes owners surfered when ride long distance especially mid day hours.

I really don't know. I loved the concept. But i seem not to get warm with the final version. Seating position looks hella cramped, too much bling for my taste.. but it probably will work on the american market. It looks pretty good when its standing there. But it stops looking good when someone sits on it :D

The lack of horsepower is an issue for me. It was a mistake to miss the 100hp mark.

This thing has "highway pegs" though. There are over cylinder footrests you can pick in the Configurator

Nice styling but am concerned.on its long range touring comfort capability. It's hard to sit straight with legs at an angle with no way to stretch it.

They have aimed this bike directly at the HD market. I ride a lot which is way more than the 1 hour Harley ride to the dealer and then back home to clean the bike. I need my electric adjustable windshield and heated everything because I spend the day on my bike. Where do you carry your air pump flat repair kit and hot and cold clothing on these bikes?

Excellent second bike! I’ll keep my HD as first!

I just want to know how much the valve cover is in case I drop it (the only thing I don't like about boxer)
@MikeBobpokie4 жыл бұрын
There's a customisable cover for the cover already on the bike available in different styles, so you'd be dropping bike on that .

Just give us the concept with lights. Where is nice inverted front fork? Where is the large front wheel? Where is fat back wheel? Where is the nice looking exhaust? Where is the nice front lamp? Yes we can buy addons for 8k on a 22k bike.

Looks a bit like a cruiser with some royal Enfield in there. Pretty cool for that. Not a massive brutal looking kind of cruiser(that you'd want a bigger engine for)

Nice looking bike minus the exhaust. Dont think many will leave harley for it. More likely competing with the Triumph rocket 3 or the Moto Guzzi 1400 elsewhere in the world. I'll keep my Guzzi 1400. Both shaft drive ride by wire with 3 modes and 3 levels of traction control, but Guzzi is less money, lighter, and faster .

Guys I have just checked the price and optionals. Agree on the comments about the riding position. I own a MotoGuzzi California 1400 amazing motorcycle I am very happy, full optionals, brembo calipers, bought with 500miles on it for a 12K £ bargain.... I can tell you that Guzzi with a V cyclincers I barely extend my legs while travelling long journeys but it is still comfy, If I could not stretche my the legs the knees will start to hurt after 1hr on the bike...I can ask any rider on this planet how long they manage to stay on a bike with legs angel 90° degrees...common guys...if you build a tourer with this riding position it's a joke...bobber either I am very very shocked how can BMW even produce a motorbike like this without considering the impact on the rider and without understanding that custom routers MUST be comfortable and for travelling a cost to cost journey. Someone should do a nice video in usa with a R18 cost to cost and show BMW what does that means... they should have since it themself. Also the look of the rider on R18 looks like they seat on a chair...ridiculous If you need to stop eveey 50 miles because you have terrible pain in your legs and you cannot even stretch them...dude major mistake. In addition look to the way the motorcycle has been proposed to the market...lots of optional yeah ok good for this type of market but breaks mounted rubbish quality no even the best like on Guzzi Brembo radial breaks....BMW chosose the cheapest components old tech option for better margins under a nice painted shell... Headlights also old technology, why not mouting a light with the most modern tech like Guzzi... Love Guzzi California best ever amazing price fair treatment.... Nobody ever speak about Guzzi California. ..once you know it...you will forget about Harley, BMW.....for price quality and all the ride by wire all standard! Make a video comparison between the two.... This machine build by BMW has old engine technology, min spec to make more margin and leave nothing to the client. Yeah 1800cc with 150nm common if you are not able to extract this torque with such engine size in 2020 better you go back to mechanical engineering school....so not impressed by the torque itself The quality is good, but still price is high without optional I have used the configuration...my bike come out with 24K £ Pounds!

The r18 looks promising and offers good package with many customisations but it will be different seeing a cruiser without the front set foot pegs and also how the boxer engine will go along
@123456bpb4 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about the foot pegs. Only a flake would want forward pegs.

@@utkarshkaushik617 Your reply is way too polite. You have too much time available (as do I) to answer my initial reply nicely. All that aside, forget about Forward Pegs, Ape Hangers and Sissy Bars. Those aberrations are for Flakes, Degenerates, Pantie wearing Harley drivers and you obviously do not fit that demographic. Buy yourself a proper bike such as a R1250R and learn what is motorcycling is in the 21st century. Leave the Americas 50s and 60s behaviours in the past where that embarrassment should stay. Do not talk to me about Preferences. You have been cooped up too long to admit to such a preference.
