I have the 25mm f0.95 speedmaster and love it. These manual ultrafast lenses are so much fun. While they aren't tack sharp, they are great for an artsy feeling image straight from the camera. I would be curious to see a side by side comparison with the Kamlan 50mm f1.1

Feels like a lot of overlap, is the difference between 1.8 and 0.95 that big? To justify having both? (I have the oly)
@stuartnelson3202
@stuartnelson3202 3 жыл бұрын
I've had the 45mm f1.8 for five years and hardly use it, but when I do I'm always amazed at how sharp it is and how awesome the shallow DOF is. I've been using it the last couple of days and by chance this video just came up. Much as the 0.95 and the totally manual aspect draws me to this lens, the images, 0.95 or not, don't seem nearly as nice as the Olympus. That could be just KZbin, though. Would like to see a comparison between the two as believe they are similar in price. I think this is more a testament of the Olympus being amazing value than it is the new lens being "bad". This would be a lens I would buy, but still pretty low on my priority list, only because I don't use this portrait focal length often and obviously I already have that lovely Oly 😊

I own the lens and was very surprised about the good sharpness at f0.95. There is even little CA. I would not have expected such a good image quality. However, you have to focus very carefully at open aperture as there is hardly any depth-of-field. On an older Lumix camera without stabiliser this could be quite difficult.

I was suck in to the low price high spec of their 50 1.1 M. Unfortunately I end up using it less than 3 times since I bought it a year+ ago. The focus ring was smooth at the beginning but a nasty sand paper feeling start introducing itself in to the ring around the infinity area from time to time. The black paint is thin and comes off very easily exposing the metal underneath revealing a rough uneven surface to the touch, I expect it to come off eventually but not so soon. As much as I love their attractive price point, ' you get want you pay for'. They are 'cheap' for a reason and I don't think I will be a returning customer.
@Red35Photography
@Red35Photography 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't disagree as I got the 50mm 1.1 M too and it was pretty bad. But then again, that was two years ago and many things have changed. I've been 're' testing all the new 'Chinese lenses' and while some disappoint, a few came out pretty amazing. This is being one of them. I love it better than my Canon cult classic 85mm f1.2L FD. Of course you can't beat the ultimate Leica Noctilux, but that's a 10k lens. ahha Yes you do get what you pay for but would you pay 10k? Even I make money from photography, I wouldn't do it for work but only for personal reasons.

@@Red35Photography Thanks your honest reply. Infact, the reason I got the 7A 50 1.1 is because I am a 50 guy, I just wanted to try them out. I do have the Noct 50 0.95 (but it's too heavy for daily carry), I have the 50 apo for my m10m, and the Noct 50 1.2 v1 for my m10. I am planning to expand my horizon to 21mm but before I drop the cash on leica lens I want to know if I enjoy it or not, you have any recommendation for a 21mm M mount?

You mentioned the Voigtlander 0.95 lenses as a comparison, but I would prefer to compare it to the Sigma 56mm f1.4 If the apertures were the same then 56mm would have more background blur, but how does the bokeh compare and is 56mm enough of a longer length to equal the 50’s backghround blur? Is the 56mm sharper, and sharper across more of thje frame? - I suspect it is, but a comparison would be nice.

It's a beautiful lens - compact, lovely looking glass, super aperture - but awful image quality. I'm wondering if I've got a duff one. There is *so* much light haze across everything at full aperture that it's simply unusable. Nothing is sharp. I have a Kamlan 50mm f1.1 mk2 and at full aperture it knocks the 7 Artisans into a cocked hat. (I have side by side images to prove it.) It's not even truly 50mm - I tested it against two other 50mm lenses and it seems 3 or 4mm short in focal length - and it focuses noticeably beyond infinity. I'm going to have to send mine back. I really, really want to love this lens (I love my 7 Artisans 35mm f1.2 and use it a lot) and I'm hoping if I order another I might be as delighted as you seem to be. I can't see how our experiences could be so different! Fingers crossed...

Dammit. Another lens on the list for me... I've got the Mitakon Speedmaster 25mm/0.95, and actually use it wide open quite a bit. It's not scalpel sharp, certainly, but that's not why we buy these, is it? It has a wonderful glow to it, and the Toneh is smooth and creamy. I also have the 7Artisans 35mm/1.2, which has its own look, and its colour rendering is just lovely. For fast-ish fifty, my top choice, until now, is the old OM Zuiko 50mm/1.4. Beautiful soft glow wide open, and quite sharp by f/4. But, this 7Artisans has its own appeal, and I envision one finding its way to me soon. Curses, Jimmy. I don't think any other uT00b guy has cost me as much dosh as you have... Cheers mate!

@Red35Photography 3 жыл бұрын
I've tested many 0.95 lenses and frankly this is the first I would use at this price range. Voiglander has some lovely rendering but I find that it's a tad too soft for my liking unless I am going for that specific look, this lens renders nicely too, though with a bit of halo, but you can dehaze it quite easily and get all the details and sharpness back. Ok, it can't compare with the top end lenses but this is rather cheap by comparison. I also have Mitakon lenses but they are not as sharp as this one.

@@williamsleeman7147 it’s a Wandrd Sling Strap (yes they omit two “e”) similar to the PD design regarding adjusting the length but it uses a super strong material to attach to the camera via a spring release hook instead of separate anchors, comes with a base plate for hanging options and has a built in flat tool on the strap to attach it to the camera, genius! Not as quick to remove/attach the strap from the camera as the anchor style but the payoff is the no anchors left on the camera so you are free to use a different wrist strap say from another manufacturer 👍🏻

Bah, clickless aperture ring! Great for video perhaps, but lousy for people who like to adjust their aperture while looking through the viewfinder. I'll stick with the Olympus OM Zuiko 50mm ƒ/1.2 on a speed booster - 35mm ƒ/0.84, 2/3rds of a stop faster than the 7Artisans, in a smaller and lighter package! But until KZbin figures out how to monetize used lenses, I guess this combo isn't going to get reviewed and compared.

The wide aperture sounds tempting, but at 50mm with manual focus I’m not sure how practical it would be for shooting rock music gigs with the band members moving around all the time. Hitting focus could be really tricky, but I’d still give it a try.
