Really enjoy Chris' reviews -- no hyperbole or BS, and really nicely presented. Easily among the best bike reviewers out there. Ducati really nailed the looks on this, and the performance looks excellent too. The engine is also nicely established as reliable over many years with excellent performance in the Hypermotard and Supersport. I was hoping it would be a bit less heavy, but looking forward to hearing more on how it carries the weight. Also looking forward to the Welsh mud test! Thanks!

Its nice to have a motorcycle review by a dude that is a better rider than most of us (as opposed to the squids at other outlets trying to convince us they know what they are talking about) i.e. knowledge, experience, ability. Bikes aren't like cars, you cant fake it whilst sitting on your arse critiquing the interior trim and piped in / digitally modified exhaust note

All your praise and descriptions makes me think of my 990. Had not considered Ducati as a proper ADV replacement, but I do now. Thanks for the no-nonsense review and dirt focused commentary. As for the twin headlights, don't forget that in the dark and especially in shitty weather, 2 side by side headlights can (not saying that this one does) create the optical illusion of looking like a car off in the distance and fool drivers into pulling out right on top of you. This is how I lost my Elephant and almost my life years ago. Stay sharp out there.

Another killer review by Chris. This is the best looking ADV bike I have ever seen. I am such a sucker for that look and Ducati has absolutely nailed it. What a looker. I have no doubt that it is a great bike, but the problem for me is the price. A used 1090 Adventure R in good condition can be had for half the price and is lighter, just as good off road, looks good enough, and has 15 more horsepower stock. If I was swimming in money, sure, but 17,000 Euros is a lot. Also, 3,000 Euros extra spread over monthly payments bags you 50 more horsepower in the new 1290 Adventure R. Desert X looks plus SAR motor would have me running into a dealership throwing bills....haha.

Really enjoy your reviews Chris! You mentioned the Desert X runs right up there with the new Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro for a combination of on and off road capability. In the brief time you had them, do you happen to have a preference for one over the other at all...and if so, why?
@newenglandscrambler22622 жыл бұрын
Same question here. I have the new 1200 RP and honestly it is just too big and heavy for me to be comfortable riding it offroad in rocky muddy New England enduro conditions. The DX seems much more manageable from both a size and weight/balance standpoint. I'm thinking of trading the T12 for a DX. But really hard decision to make. They are both utterly different bikes.

YES your intro is spot-on, Chris. Ducati actually went and did it! A 2022 Cagiva Elefant! I can’t remember the last time a new bike gave me butterflies but this does. It would be interesting to see some sort of graph where you made a ranking for on road and off road performance for the mid level off road biased adventure bikes (T7, 890, nordon, aprillia tuareg, desertx). Because I find a lot of these reviews say ‘it’s good off-road’ or ‘it can definitely handle street riding’, but that doesn’t say anything about how much more capable one is at one thing than the other. If I was in the market for this bike class, I’d simply wanna know which one is best at what. This one looks amazing though.

@@richardsimpson3792 performance wise yes - but the modern bikes have better fuelling, better equipment (990 headlight is appalling), better brakes (990 brakes are really appalling), nicer dash and electronics (which may or may not matter to you). Same could be said for 1250GS vs original 1200GS
@richardsimpson37922 жыл бұрын
@@charlesmortleman422 The European market headlamp on the 950 (one beam for dip, two for high) is perfectly adequate. I would like some additional lamps that turned with the fork, though. Brakes are fine...it's a trail bike not a sports bike: I actually put organic pads in mine to make them more progressive. Electronics...lovely idea until they go wrong. I don't want to be distracted by a TV screen when I'm riding. The one thing the modern bikes are far better on is fuel.

Woah. I've seen AT's, T7's and 790/890's go off jumps like the one you hit at 5:31 on the DX and none of them are as composed. That really stuck out me, it looked impressive as hell. None of the other bikes land, they crash. Very surprised honestly, didn't expect this at all. Those tires are standard on the T7 and 890, and Norden and I have to say they are a great choice. They perform very admirably offroad for how good they are on-road, and they are *really* good on the road.
@defylifeadventure2 жыл бұрын
My 890 came with Karoo 3. As for the AT there is review by Fortnine, and if you pause it when Ryan jumps at the top of the hill you see the whole bike front and back has completely bottomed out and the belly pan is touching the ground. Hilarious. I'd love to see Honda make an 850 African Twin or similar with 85-90% of the off road performance of the KTM 890.

About shifting at low speeds, I have the 1260 Enduro and was told by Ducati that they shift best at around 5k to 7k RPMs, which holds true in my experience and caused me to adjust my riding style coming from cruisers.
