If SRAM would start making cycling socks these would end up integrated with a shoe.

Less than 1% of all red axs chainrings actually were sent back to sram for replacing; the chainrings are extremely, extremely durable. I think everyone is freaking out about something they will not only never wear down enough to need replacing, but they will most likely sell the bike before the rings need replacing.

@@pilikiosuafoa1727 I think sram gave this number. I'm not 100 percent sure I trust their number. But I have red. I've put over 10,000km on a chain and had minimal wear (waxed and cleaned) I've gone through a few chains and my rings are fine.
@FT__Bicycling_____-sc7yv2 ай бұрын
I've heard the chainring lifetime is generally around 40,000 km, give or take. IMO.. I don't want to replace a PM every 40,000km. So I won't buy a direct-mount crank
@weiwenng8096 Жыл бұрын
At 5:12, you said SRAM said to replace the chain at 0.8mm of wear. Did you mean 0.8%? And isn’t the standard to replace at 0.5% for 11s and higher?
@michaelcawley7400 Жыл бұрын
The power meter can be traded in with quarq for 50% off a new one and they recycle the old one

Heck I'd rather choose 105 di2 over this pile of s**t, at least the front mech actually works reliably. The only saving grace for Sram road groupsets now is 1x.

Love it just purchased a giant revolt 0 with it on. My first electrical group set and disk brake bike. There will always be companies that will make alternative components to replace original ones.

I am seriously considering a new bike with this groupset.. given that I bet I won't need to replace the front chainrings within 7 or 8 years of use if I keep the drivetrain clean. My concern is th r cost of replacement SRAM chain and cassettes.... those prices seem outrageous

Personally, I would prefer the better chainrings for the same price, and SRAM is offering these stiffer and lighter CRs for the same price. It would have been helpful if you mentioned that any owner is not really locked into replacing with quark/CR combos as shown. 1) They added the in-spindle power meter option that was available in the rival group, and 2) these cranks are still compatible with the still available quark spider that takes separate CRs. I hate waste, and we all should, but "the man" at SRAM isn't really forcing us to use this default CR setup. Let's be honest, for most of us, we will never wear out this CR set before it wears out.
@vincegarcia814311 ай бұрын
A huge advantage with the Sram setup is it's wireless feature. I have a Cervelo TT bike (P3) with a mechanical Ultegra group-set and rim brakes. It is currently being upgraded with the new force group-set. With the wireless blips I'll be able to change gears from the break levers and aerobar positions. All without needing to change the rim brake setup.

The $500 chainring replacement is a complete deal killer. There is no way I'd buy this group. People: do not buy this, SRAM needs to revert

The real takeaway - use wax for the entirety of your drivetrain. Chance of replacing chainring set is negligible.

That whole chainring whining is bs. I keep my chain clean and have put 20000miles over 2 years on one set of chainrings no problem. And I mean no extra noise let alone slippage. So now you go and do the math on how long that would last you!
@bebopman5 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. My main gripe is that if you want to ever wanted to change ratios, you’d either have to buy a whole new power meter combo or experiment with a different cassette. But I think the chainring wear anxiety is a bit overblown

Just checked Merlin: Ultegra di2 12 speed disc is running at $2079, rim brake version is $1645. More importantly, 105 di2 disc 12 speed is $1353! They’re all in stock, complete sets! I feel sram makes you buy their groupset piecemeal, it would not be a pleasant buying experience.

I recently upgrade a rim brake to a SRAM Force AXS , I guess now first gen, and got the drive train as a kit. The only thing that came separate was the crank, due to the variations available and the cassette, again, due to the variations available. It works fantastic, I did not have to change out my rim brakes, so I still have my Shimano rim brakes on it. Shimano does not offer a di2 version for Rim brake. System was a flawless setup, took about 25 mins to completed including running new brake cables.

I've been riding Shimano mechanical for a long time. All my 6 bikes are fitted with Shimano. Now I'm in the market to switch to an electronic groupset. I'm a bit disappointed with Ultegra Di2. It doesn't offer various options for more gear unless you dropped down to 105. And the idea of getting plugged and unplugged cable every time I'm traveling is not very appealing to me. Over time, the plug will get loose. SRAM Force AXS is very appealing now. It gives a lot of options. I can use 10-36 with 43-30 and still in the level of Force. Not Rival. I'm not really concerned about the one-piece chainring. So far I've been riding so many miles and have not yet "changed my chain ring." Maybe for some yes, but for the majority of mortal riders like me, it would long time before I will need to change it. And by that time it's already paid off anyway. The media makes it so big a deal about the one-piece chain ring. In reality, the majority of the riders aren't pro/amateur riders. And those people have money to buy it, so let them moan about one-piece chainring.

Really, really ugly. And what is the actual weight?? Since you don't even discuss it, I assume there isn't a rim brake option, so it's all academic in any case. And why does it cost about twice as much as a 2nd tier groupset cost about five years ago? I'll stick with my 8-year-old Campagnolo Super Record EPS, thank-you-very-much... It's really a joke how bikes and bike components keep getting worse and more expensive at the same time.
