Now, CF Moto are on their way to become the new Triumph, at least in the lower capacity segment. On a side note, I am happy that the CF Motot engine is a true triple, not a frankentriple with unevenly spaced crankshaft (T-plane). The Daytona 675 was one of my favorites I've ever ridden. Its a very track focused ride. Unfortunately they tend to have electrical gremlins. Weird ones too that oftentimes leading to something catastrophic.
@ApexRadius5 ай бұрын
The problems were mostly down to the Regulator/Rectifier on first-generation bikes. A failed R/R could also lead to a fried stator. But there's nothing mysterious about it. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Ducati all had the same problem on various models. (Not sure about Kawasaki, but it probably happened to them, too.) The old shunt-type R/R could overheat, particularly in hot climates. It was replaced with a MOSFET-type unit.

@LGHTSPD675 It's just the consensus years after they were produced. The first gen 675s were notorious for electrical issues up until 2009-2010 where they fixed it more or less. The later gens aren't prone to them on a consistent basis. I'm not sure about the other brands because I haven't dived into their history as much, but I researched Triumph frequently before buying my Street Triple 675R. Love it

The D675 was bought new and I went through two R/R units in a couple of years. No stator or other damage but it was frustrating. Triumph first replaced failed units with the same (new) part but eventually issued a proper recall and replaced the original part with a MOSFET unit. The thing is that the R/R and all of the electrical components are actually from respected Japanese manufacturers, so those manufacturers' components show up in a lot of other bikes, too. There are a lot of variables depending on the actual bike design, of course, but those shunt-type units could fail under certain conditions. And I think as sportbike designs became more mass centralized and more high performance oriented, those old units were not totally sufficient anymore. Beyond that, there were no other weird or significant electrical issues for the rest of the D675's production run that I know of. I do know that some people have had issues with the stator years later that they chalked up as another problem but learned that it was actually crippled as a result of an old R/R failure.

Ι 've owned a Triumph Daytona T595 (955 c.c., for the younger ones) back in the late '90s. And it had a perfect balance: it was not a "track oriented" sports bike to enjoy every once in a while, nor on the other hand was it a "watered down" street bike that was "beginner friendly". It was not the strongest bike back then but it had enough raw power to be a beast, and was really well set-up so if you were a bit experienced you could have a blast with a bike that gave you fun and confidence. I rode it every day and went on several longer or shorter trips on it. A few times, even 2-up (although not often). So THAT 'S actually how Triumph should have built a new Daytona (preferably with the 765 engine). Now as for the CF Moto bike, not my cup of tea, but it is actually interesting. And anything above 100 hp is enough for road use, in my opinion.
@matthiashauptmann94235 ай бұрын
I had a Triumph Sprint ST and later a Street Triple R - the lightest bike with the best suspension and brakes I ever had on a stock bike. I fought myself for 2 years: should I sacrifice 30 kg for a 955i Daytona? The 675 engine was just too linear to be fun on the road. The 955 engine was a different animal in every respect and I also brought that bike down to 205 kg fully fuelled. In the end I sold her because you didn´t feel anything up to 170 km/h (105 mph) on open roads, which does not promote the life of rider or license. The 675 CF Moto looks like an interesting concept, but 1. let´s wait how they water it down for the production bike, 2. where will it be price-wise and 3. the looks are a bit pubertal ...
@kaveiros755 ай бұрын
@@matthiashauptmann9423 I also had a 955 Sprint RS (the half-fairing one) after the Daytona. Initially I was not so excited (the Daytona was wilder) but a year later I put on a titanium aftermarket exhaust and some mapping and it got quite some grunt in the mid-range. Then... I put on a K&N filter and voila! Revelation! I 've had around 120 hp on the back wheel, with a throttle response of a well tuned 4-cylinder 600 cc (and this with its maximum, huge, torque at just 5100 rpm!!!). You could roll around with a passenger and have a cool ride and next second you had a beast - that needed experience and attention to be controlled. I loved it so much I kept it for 13 years. Now after a few years on a Japanese bike, I am considering of getting a previous model 765 Street Tripple R, too. I test-rode it last year and it still had enough "rawness" in its engine that reminded me of the older Triumphs.

Especially the T509 had zero learning curve, a more relaxed suspension and the only problem was exposure to the elements. T595 needed a bit of tickling to enter fast curves and also felt tighter. I ended up buying a Blue TRX850, one guy had it in the test and just by seeing it it felt very impressive. Heard that T595/509 suffered from reliability issues, especially with that 80s car injection system that nobody knew how to adjust. What was your experience?

@@catfunt5583 No it wasn't. The first-gen was generally considered head of the class overall, by a fair margin, for its first couple of years and every generation was usually in and around the top three. The ZX-6R (636cc) was usually considered best overall in class by the time the Daytona 675 was cancelled. The R6 was generally considered the best track/race platform but not a very good road bike. The GSX-R was up there a couple of years but was eventually left with no significant updates for over a decade. Same with the CBR-600RR, which was at the bottom for several years. The current "all new" ZX-6R is barely changed from the 20-teens version. It's arguably not as good. The new CBR isn't all that different, either. The Daytona was pretty expensive by the last gen, which didn't help. All were objectively very good. The middleweight supersport class was probably the most competitive class for many years. Then it died. Sales tanked for all of them. New emmision standards with low sales made them far less viable The ones that still exist are really only there for race homologation and the fact that the big four could afford to carry them with so few sales. That class, despite what the keyboard warriors like to believe, is still dead or barely breathing. I'm looking forward to the R9 and we'll see if it helps resuscitate that class.

As far as frames go, casting molds are ridiculously expensive. They also take tons of engineering scrutiny and time before the go-ahead is given to the tool maker to make the mold. Every little detail down to the 1/32" radius has to be considered for metal flow casting, because every second that passes when the mold machine is running is MONEY being made or lost. Compare that to a jig, metal pipes, and some welding? It's easy to see the cost difference. That CF Moto triple looks to be competing in the RS660, Daytona 660, R7, GSX-8R, CBR650R category.......not the dying 600 supersport category. So in the 100+ horsepower peak range, you'd imagine the triple is going to have a decent spread of torque. Manufacturers are having to comply with WINGNUTS in environmental bureaucracies.

Looks wise this is stunning and if it comes out looking even 90% as good it'll be the most visually appealing middleweight sports bike, with the R7 -nor the RS660- in third.

China is going to do what Japan did to the Brits and European motorcycles. Anyone that has not seen a CF Moto must go to there local CF Moto dealer and check them out. If they get there parts and service business up they will dominate .

No, it's the 450SR engine with an extra cylinder. Also, MV Agusta has a different Chinese partner, QJ Motor.

CF have definitely and correctly zoned in on the market gap triumph left with the 660

I'm convinced the Jacksonville 660 is just to get people in the door and the salesman can say " hey for 800 dollars more ... Lighter, more hp, fully adjustable suspension, braided brake lines, quick shifter, brembos .... Just sayn' "
@sibzy15 ай бұрын
@ellwoodwolf maybe, a lot of people will still buy it tbf, it's definitely aimed at newcomers and younger riders; either way, seems to be a fiscal decision

I actually chose the Daytona 660 over the street triple cause it looks beautiful In person, and comfortably went 200.. don't need much more than that in Europe. It's also very comfortable. I find the street triple super ugly for example, also the mt-09 looks fugly for me in comparison..
@sibzy15 ай бұрын
@rajeshrameswaran each to their own, I personally find the looks of the Daytona a massive let down, all bit from the parts bin! I was speaking to the salesman at my local Triumph this weekend just gone, he told me they have barely sold any!
@IDontKnow-bb6mt5 ай бұрын
This bike looks amazing and exactly what I'd been hoping for. This is what triumph should have made. But i could never buy a track focused bike that is really a first attempt from an unproven manufacturer in China.

As an old skool biker with 34yrs + in the saddle it seems to me that all these modern “super sport” bikes seem to be going backwards, what’s all that about ? I mean, take Yamahas XSR900GP as an example, a 900cc inline triple with around 115bhp and a top whack of about 135, really ?… 🥴 As an aside, I’m running a 99 GSX750F with around 100bhp and capable of 150 + a smidge or two, having said that its handling is decidedly average in standard form I s’pose, maybe that’s the difference. Mine is not running factory stock suspension or geometry settings though and actually DOES go round corners. 😬

i dont get why Triumph dont build a daytona 765 they already have the powertrain chassis suspension and electronics all they have to do is strap a full fairing and clip on to the streetriple 765.

The crowds cheer as a new supersport bike is announced - and few will actually put their money down. This is why I was happy with daytona not being an aggressive supersport. Now, if they were to make a more road oriented 675SR...

There are actually tons of bat #hit crazy super sport bikes on the market already, for those who want them. Kawasaki H2, Ninjas, Honda CBR1000RR, Aprilias, Ducatis, MV Agustas. Nobody is deprived of options if they want bikes like that. People just like to belly ache and have even more bikes available that they're not going to buy.

MotoGP is going down to 850cc in 2026/27. So Moto2 will most likely go back down to 600/4-675/3 🤷♂️
@davidlagno77175 ай бұрын
I wouldn't buy one. But I'd expect CF Moto is going to end up being a serious contender. And I predicted this for a while and whenever I drop the comments I get ALOT OF HATE. Just to let you know I own a S1000RR and a Bandit 1250n and I'm not getting rid of them. I'm not seeing anything groundbreaking coming out of Japan anymore. And Euro bikes your gonna have to pay for that as specially here in the US.
@CRFLAus4 ай бұрын
The Chinese are playing a good game. Before anyone gets carried away we need to wait. If they stand the test of time and miles/kilometers then the Japanese and the Europeans have a lot to worry about, which is good because bikes are getting way too fancy and expensive when in the real world you'd be just as fast on a 2005 CBR600RR etc as any new bike you'd buy now.

I'm so tired of this trend of adding winglets to bikes that have no need or purpose for them. The 450SS is a great example as well. It's so goofy and I'd rather not have it at all. It's like throwing a race spoiler onto a chevy spark. I wish this trend would die off or at least give us the option of not having to have it. 😑
