I really commend Eagle Dynamics for making the Mission Editor Better & Better as of the latest string of Open Beta updates! I really hope that one day all of the functions of the various scripting engines will be integrated into the base DCS Mission editor!

We now just need a tanker revamp. That thing looks like it's taken straight out of tEh ZuCc's Medduhworse (aka the Salztal). And, of course, the new physics... and the possibility to have one ready on Alert 15.

When I was on the Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) from 86 to 90, there were always several things that happened during flight ops. There was always a rescue helo airborne, there was always an Alert 5 Tomcat on the flight deck, and there was always a recovery tanker in the air and another on Alert 15 status. Back then, it was usually an A-6 Intruder or S-3 Viking configured with buddy stores. Especially when we first deployed and all the airwings were doing their carrier quals. Many new pilots and many veteran pilots with rust and lots of bolters. The first week of ops were always the most exciting. Then when 6 months go by and we're returning home, those guys were all on top of their game. Catching the number 3 wire is the ideal trap. On day one their just trying to catch ANY wire, on day 180 their all getting the 3 wire. It's quite amazing to see the improvements. Nice addition to the carrier module. Great video by Spud.

The S-3 Viking is one of the coolest and most unique aircraft ever, and DCS would be an even better place with a solid, usable model of it.

Back in the mid-1980s (and possibly back 10 years or so, in the A model Vikings, before tanker duties were added), carrier tanker assets were either KA-6s (which I believe were mission-capable for combat) or A-7s with a buddy store. In the Vikings, and I only remember doing this at night - there more bolters then - we'd be one of the last aircraft back on deck during a recovery cycle. We could land heavier than the tankers so we'd drone around in marshal (caught up on my naps) until it was time to be the cycle's "sponge," taking on fuel that would otherwise have to be dumped if the tanker was too heavy. This was after flying typical two-cycle missions - twice as much flying time as the gas guzzlers. Sore butts and full bladders.

Thank you for sharing this little but important info, also this one from the mission editor. I saved the videos until 2.8 appeared for the stable version... :-) Have a great week and a healthy start into the new year! Greetings from Germany.

Will we ever get the S-3 modeled into DCS? It could be used for some ASW and tanker missions as well as strike missions
@SQUID_22592 жыл бұрын
I totally agree.. Addition of recovery tanker function is awesome. Would love if the SAM AI could be overhauled to more easily setup a realistic IADS in mission editing. Good video Spud.

Love the conent Just wondering if you could set up a marshall stack of different aircraft orbiting at different altitudes? Obviously they won't change and step down the stack but would be fun to enter and see other units marshalling!

Hey Spud, any news on the HGU-55 helmet model for the Tomcat? I was expecting it with this patch after the new pilot model that came with 2.8 but nothing yet

No word! I’d like to have the HGU-55 as well! It’s what I wear so I wanna look like that in DCS too! Haha with my Shiny over the top visor too, I’ll have to have someone mod that in ;)

I have correct radio fregs and all set like in Your video, but the tanker does not respond at all. It just orbits, but no basket no lights. Ivan not refuel. Maybe I do something wrong but what could it be?

Spud, define what a recovery tanker is for the non knowledgeable
@Spudknocker2 жыл бұрын
Its a small tactical tanker that Orbits an aircraft carrier to give fuel to any aircraft that requires it during the recovery cycle of Cyclic Carrier Ops. A jet may need gas due to a pilot having a hard time trapping and having multiple bolters, aircraft mechanical issue, fouled deck due to many different caused etc
