You said it buddy! I've been saying it for a year - these guys just don't get it. What we want is to tell stories with consistent characters, emotions, realistic movement, talking, sound, sound effects, music, editing etc. and we don't want to use 15 products to do it and make it look good.

We are witnessing the era of the beginning of the end of film production. All efforts are moving towards creating your vision as a writer or director without the need to enter into the complex and expensive production process of contracting with actors and the production crew, including lighting and photography directors, assistant directors, and many, many other expensive elements. I have worked with a production crew. In expensive films, you feel frustrated as an aspiring director with a vision because you cannot obtain sufficient funding to make a film that achieves what you dream of. Now, everything will change. It is the dream of every director. I expect that in the next ten years at most, the world will witness films that surpass... Films produced by huge studios
@TheoreticallyMedia

So, I don't think it's as binary as that. If you watch that video linked at the end, I was just at a thing with all the heavy hitters in film production. They're leaning into it, but that machine is SO HUGE and the pipelines are so entrenched, it's going to take a lot to integrate AI into them. On the other side, you are SO CORRECT about what this means for indie filmmakers who are savvy enough to hop in. Make awesome stuff, and I think you're looking at distribution by the studios, since they're still going to be hungry for content. No insider knowledge here, but I think we'll see a streamer like Netflix pick up an AI Film first.

It's rather like the journey of the composer. You used to have to hire an orchestra or ensemble to record your piece. Now technology allows us to write epic orchestral music at our desk. To me that's brilliant. Yet, there is still plenty of work for film composers and orchestrators. To be able to make AI movies to tell stories is the same. More voices able to tell unique and compelling stories. It won't stop production of major films or tv shows. It opens up opportunity for the rest of us to share our perspective. IMHO :)

Def opened up a whole new workflow compared to what we do see with Sora. Real cinema will never be replaced and filmmakers and actors will be just fine - theres something to be said of the emotional value we get from actors and our 'real' connection we feel and get from real people. Now, with saying that - imagine the type of films we will get with real filmmaking with real actors when producers and directors and writers will be able to test their scenes with this technology and basically create their film and shot list with this. Also, having that pre-production meeting with all the dept heads and going through a film like this instead of that table reading. We will see a HUGE HUGE spike in quality of films. And I'm not talking about the filmmakers that rarely put anything out bad but we will see more quality of films, lower budgets and a production schedule and post that is on another level. Or imagine submitting a film with this to get funded or a script optioned or sold....

I was watching a thing on Rogue One (the Star Wars movie) and apparently it’s Garath’s process to do a sort of previz rip reel of the entire movie using scenes from other movies. Like, you’ll see 2 minutes from Laurence of Arabia, and then 30 seconds from Bridge Over River Kwai, and then a minute from Rio Bravo. It doesn’t make any sense, but rather servers as a tone palette for the entire movie. It’s super obsessive and crazy, but I get the idea behind it. Just thinking about applying that process to tools like this? Or even just in the reshoot process, where you could basically generate up what you plan to shoot beforehand, just to make sure it’ll work? And yeah, Hollywood isn’t going anywhere. And from that talk last week, the folks I met are ready to lean in.

Thats really interesting to hear about Rogue One. I would love to see that edit they put together. haha. So, I don’t know if you caught this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGfUqIhqfNmNmZIsi=1wnMe7Xl1Zf6hXJw Which was a little silly, but through the conference itself, I did meet and speak with a lot of people in the industry. They’re all aware how big this is going to be, and just like the rest of us, they’re trying to figure out how to make it work. A big issue for them is the established production pipelines. Which are not very flexible, while AI moves very quickly and is constantly changing/improving, My personal take is that the big studios will keep doing their films, while this AI explosion will allow smaller teams and indie filmmakers to do more. I think we’re looking at something like the 90s indie film boom. From there, we’ll start to see streamers picking up AI filmmakers. Maybe first as an anthology series, before we start to see actual movies and shows. Big budget films? They’ll still be around.

I'm hoping in the future, we'll be able to train our own video ai models, since id love to train it on stuff like movies or short films, amd make an unofficial sequel. I'm also hoping we can add custom characters or ourselves into the model, being able to make movies with specific characters or people. these would be MASSIVE steps in filmmaking with ai, so expensive scenes or vfx will be simple as a few clicks and a prompt. - seeing these new updates and sneakpeaks, i doubt these ideas are far away from being reality.

This kind of tool and approach is essential for creators, not just create clips, but provide tools for them to create sequences, workflows, and more. We appreciate the idea and direction, but the current state of the UI is very far from the fancy presentation of the video. We are open to test and provide valuable feedbacks for the team. Thanks for sharing!

I mean, sure. But as I mentioned, for a launch/sizzle reel they’re going to focus on features, not UI. But, I hear you. I’ve had this discussion with a LOT of the platforms, across the board everyone struggles with UI. Actually had a long talk with Leonardo about it. This is all fairly new, so everyone is trying to figure out a logical workflow. It’ll get there, just give it some time. Also, hey! We aren’t on Discord anymore!

@@TheoreticallyMedia True story. I'm personally a professional UI UX so I understand the challenge here :) You know a fun fact? I know a few heavy users that even after the Web version release still prefer and use MJ on the Discord! Humans and their behaviours... That's why is important to user test and have a constant feedback loop with real users of your product. Leonardo is quite interesting too, it suppose to be minimal, it looks like, but in some way it does not feel like. it's kinda cluttered and demands a high cognitive effort to process and use it.

Make a video on,why your sound quality of mic is great
@TheoreticallyMedia
@TheoreticallyMedia 2 ай бұрын
I’ll sneak it in at some point! It’s a fairly cheap Marantz mic ($60) but the trick is: record in mono, then double the left to right (or vice versa depending on the channel you recorded on) After that, light EQ, then add a compressor, finally add a limiter set to -1. Recording in mono seems to give everything a little more “center push” so I think voices punch through with large and small speakers. An actual recording engineer would probably just shake their head at me…haha

The issue is major achievements in AI video software development are occuring on an almost monthly basis. Maybe recognizing the limitations an using the limitsvto define the aesthetic = a good idea ? I see a day within maybe 2 years when you can import a screenplay (ideally a shooting script) and AI will prompt you with questions (about characters, looks, environment, etc.) then convert it into an entire film you can re-edit with a combination of clicks and prompts. And the whole thing looks surprisingly good. I honestly think 2026 is very possible here.
@TheoreticallyMedia
@TheoreticallyMedia 2 ай бұрын
I’ve seen some stuff on the script end, that even has some pipelines built into image generation, so it might be quicker than you think! The current problem is none of the LLMs I’ve seen are very good at writing convincing scenes and dialogue across a feature script. But, that’s also ok, since I’m a firm believer that the writer should still do the writing! Just use the bot as a bad first draft, or a drunk assistant!
@PhilAndersonOutside
@PhilAndersonOutside 2 ай бұрын
@@TheoreticallyMedia I agree 100% Tim. I wasn't too clear. Let me define the future I hope to see: A talented and creative human writes a screenplay, perhaps getting help from AI, with themself as the "alpha" in the writing. They then convert this to a shooting script that AI can turn into a quality animated film. I am bullish on AI, but I also have a fear that for some time it will write libraries of average writing that lacks a writer's "voice" or vision. If AI had full control, including the story and script, we could thus see volumes of moderately interesting, 2-star movies, so to speak. Another hopeful angle is that there is an incredible treasure trove of great historical books that have never been turned into films, but could be using AI. This I expect to also see in the next few years. Hopefully a system will be set-up where authors will receive credit and royalties, and they don't all go to KZbin, or whomever hosts the result.

I've been using gen2 and still get people with heads on backwards, strange arms and legs, people and cars going backwards, it may be more cinematic but it's still just as difficult to control if at all. Pika in my opinion has got much worse, very fuzzy and flat images now, where when it first started it had some stunning images. Also your supposed to get 4 seconds per video in the free version, but the four seconds you get is very very slow motion that requires about 10x speed to look natural speed, so in other words you only get 0.4 seconds per video. I don't buy the hype.

My personal take is that we aren’t seeing “Hollywood” level AI films for a bit. If you want something close to that, video to video with an animated look is probably the way to go. Text to video; or even image to video works really well if you use it as something like a background environment. Think of an actor on a green screen against a sci-fi city backdrop. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make some pretty awesome stuff with Pika and Gen2. I just think of them more as experimental films, or even a new storytelling medium, which is actually really exciting when you look at it that way. You’re looking at the dawn of a brand new way of telling stories,

People who laughed off artists as outdated and replaced, thinking theres an exciting job opportunity ahead of them, will be left with just a toy. 2) I much prefer my granny telling her story using authentic human language, thats the whole charm of authenticity, communication and human experience, and not construct fake amalgamations, meat puppets and voiceovers, its just absurd.
